2 Course Pre-requisites and Requirements Traffic Controllers play a critical role in managing traffic safely at worksites. It s vital that anyone performing the duties of a Traffic Controller is aware of the hazards that are present when working in close proximity to traffic. Traffic controllers are also required as part of their duties and responsibilities to effectively communicate within the workplace as well as with emergency services, WHS authorities and the public. In order to do this they will have to have a level of Language, Literacy and Numeracy that is sufficient to undertake the role of a Traffic Controller. In order to develop / confirm the skills required to work as a Traffic Controller, you will need to demonstrate that you can apply the skills and knowledge that form this course in the real workplace. While completing the training at our training facility will allow you to do most of your course, the final requirement is to undertake real work in a real workplace. Your course consists of: Pre-attendance requirement (takes most 2-5 hours depending on your literacy levels and the option chosen) Attendance (8:30am until around 5:00pm) on 1 day for the Express Course and on 2 days for the Standard Course. Post- attendance requirements. If you meet the requirements for the Pre-attendance and attendance then you will receive your Statement of Completion (SOC) - this certificate allows you to work legally as a Traffic Controller (see below for further requirements) for 90 days. Pre-Attendance Requirements Your course is made up of 3 (three) modules. Before attending for your course, you will be required to read a set of learning materials, complete a set of questionnaires online. If you are undertaking the Express Option then you will also have to complete a Student Workbook. These are accessed through our Learning Management System (you will get access to this when you book your course).
5 If you do not have access to the systems required for this course (a computer or similar and an internet connection), please contact us and we will post the Pre-attendance requirements to you or you may pick up a set from any of our training centres. Fees do apply - please refer to the terms and conditions. Once you have completed the questionnaires, print off the result sheets (only) showing your result (needs to be 100%) and bring these with you to Day 1 of your training. If you are undertaking the Express Option You MUST also bring in your completed Student Workbook. If you do not have access to a printer then we may print off your result sheets (for your online questionnaires), if you are undertaking the Express Option then you may write your answers for the Student Workbook onto a blank paper for submitting on the day of your attendance (day 1). Please ensure that you clearly mark the question number on your responses. During your training at our training centres you will work with your trainer/assessor to ensure that you have the required knowledge to work as a Traffic Controller. This involves classroom presentation, case studies, some activities and theoretical assessments. You will also learn about the skills required to perform competently as a Traffic Controller. At some point in the course (the afternoon of the Express Option, or day 2 of the Standard Option) you will also attend our Practical Training Centre (10 minutes drive away) this will provide you with near real simulated training to ensure that you have the skills and knowledge required to work as a Traffic Controller.
