1 Temporary Sprayable Masking TECHNICAL DATA SHEET Product Description Components temporary sprayable masking is a water-based masking compound that forms a tough, clear plastic film with controlled adhesion to plastics to provide excellent surface protection while maintaining ease of strippability. It is designed to be used on flat sheets of plastic prior to thermoforming and for decorating acrylic, polycarbonate and ABS sheets. The clear film of, once dry, can be run through the full cycle of thermoforming, drilling, routing, shearing and with the film in direct contact with the die. The film of is remarkably dry and tack-free even while hot; however, a dusting with talc may be necessary with very tight or coarse material dies. Mix ratio (by volume): is a 1-component, ready to use product. Surface Preparation and Pretreatments Apply to clean surfaces. Instructions for Use Mixing Instructions: is ready to use with no additional components. Check to ensure that no freezing has occurred in shipping or during storage period. Upon opening container, manually stir thoroughly to overcome any settling. Avoid shaking as product can foam when agitated. Induction Time: Not Required Page 1

2 Temporary Sprayable Masking Viscosity: (23 C/73 F) Not applicable Pot Life: Not Applicable Application Guidelines Recommended Application Conditions: Temperature C (59-86 F) Relative Humidity 20-90% Application: requires only a 3 mil dry film for both fabrication damage resistance and easy strippability. Therefore, at the high solids of 42 ± 1%, only a 7 to 10 mil wet thickness needs to be applied. A 3 mil film can be applied to a vertical surface in one box coat using standard type spray guns, (e.g. DeVilbiss MBC gun, FF nozzle, #765 air cap). Use an atomization pressure of 75 pounds per square inch minimum and sufficient pressure on the material container or pot to force the compound up to the nozzle of the gun. Airless spray can also be used, such as Binks Model 43F gun and a 25:1 ratio pump or Graco # with a insert and a 28:1 ratio pump. These application guidelines represent PPG s best advice for usage in standard conditions. Some parameters will be influenced by environmental conditions, equipment settings, and other variables. Physical Properties (product) Color: Dries to a clear film Gloss: Not Applicable Non-Volatiles 33 ± 2% Dry times: A 3 mil film will be tack-free in less than one hour drying in air at room temperature. For full tensile strength, let dry 12 hours. Drying time may be shortened by blowing air past the surface of the film. Heated air up to a temperature of 115 F may be used for drying. Film thickness: Once a film of goes through the heat cycle for thermoforming, it reaches full tensile strength and is a very tough, strong film. Films of one mil will strip from acrylics; however, films this thin might stretch out and break during more severe forming. A 3 mil film will stretch with a draw of 14" to 15" without breaking; therefore, exact film thicknesses needed will depend upon the severity of the part and draw, but should never need to be more than 3 mils dry. Note: The application and performance property values above are typical for the material, but not intended for use in specifications or for acceptance inspection criteria because of variations in testing methods, conditions and configurations. Storage Recommendations Inspect the condition of the container to ensure compliance. The material should be stored at temperatures between 13 C to 32 C (55 F to 90 F) to ensure shelf life. This is a water-based compound and should be protected from freezing. Never allow this product to freeze. Once frozen, application and protective properties are unstable and not warranted. Note: When procuring to a qualified material specification, follow those storage instructions. Page 4
