Our Core Values serve as: o The foundation of Action Against Hunger- USA s culture o Key measures of our success o The underlying principles of how we work at Action Against Hunger- USA and with our stakeholders Our values guide us through: o Our daily interactions with each other and our clients o Our programs, service delivery and measurement o Our hiring and employee development programs
3 What are our Core Values? Acting with INTEGRITY Promoting CREATIVITY As Action Against Hunger-USA employees we embrace, exemplify and represent our organizational core values in the following ways Fostering a culture of EMPOWERMENT Striving for EXCELLENCE Working with RESPECT
4 What does integrity mean? Value Statement We believe that being honest and fair is integral to every aspect of our work. Conducting our work with a spirit of sincerity, truthfulness, and transparency is imperative. Key Measures 1. We approach all situations with honesty and are transparent in all our actions. 2. We accept responsibility for our mistakes and take full ownership of our actions. 3. We act in a way that upholds public trust and confidence in our work.
5 What does creativity mean? Value Statement We encourage new ideas, embrace innovative solutions, and create opportunities for meaningful and exciting ways to do our jobs and provide solutions to address the needs of the populations we serve. Key Measures 1. We allow time and space to make our office a place which encourages excellent work. 2. We are committed to individual and organizational efforts to generate and implement new ideas that will improve our ways of working. 3. We are open to taking risks and are not afraid of failure. We use our mistakes as an opportunity to learn and grow.
6 What does empowerment mean? Value Statement We are committed to fostering an environment in which our staff, partners, and communities where we work have the space to grow, develop, and feel confident about participating. Key Measures 1. We are actively available to support each others work. 2. We encourage our staff to learn and grow in order to improve our programs and our ability to serve populations in need. 3. We expect our staff to use their knowledge, skills, and experience to add value to our work.
7 What does excellence mean? Value Statement We strive to provide services that meet and even exceed the expectations of our stakeholders (populations in need, staff, communities, and donors). Key Measures 1. We question why and how we do things in the spirit of continuous improvement. 2. We fulfill our mission by producing work of the highest quality possible. 3. We will not become complacent indeed we will challenge ourselves to do better.
8 What does respect mean? Value Statement We work with compassion and dedication, treating everyone the same way we expect them to treat us. Key Measures 1. We uphold the highest level of ethical standards and are committed to responding to any breach of these standards. 2. We promote an open working environment and mutual dialogue. 3. We respect each other as professionals and individuals.
9 In order to make our values LIVE we must: o Integrate discussions about our values into our workplace culture o Individualize each value o Make personal commitments to improve how we demonstrate each value o Give space for others to hold us accountable, allow ourselves to be challenged while applauding others efforts and successes o Ensure everyone has permission to give and receive feedback
