2 Current Streams
3 AINP Streams Strategic Recruitment Stream (Do not need an employer to support application) Compulsory and Optional Trades Engineering Occupations Post- Graduate Worker For candidates who have graduated from a recognized postsecondary institution in Alberta, are currently working in Alberta in an eligible occupation, and have a valid Post-Graduation Work Permit from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)
4 Employer Driven Stream Skilled worker For Candidates who have a permanent, full-time job offer from their Alberta Employer in a skilled occupation (NOC 0, A, B). International Graduate For Candidates who have recently graduated from a Canadian post-secondary institution and have a permanent, full-time job offer from their Alberta Employer in a NOC skill-level 0, A, B or C occupation Semi Skilled Workers Occupation Specific (Food & Beverage processing, Hotel & Lodging, Manufacturing, Long-haul trucking, food service (pilot)

6 Alberta Opportunity Stream Pre-Announcement in November, 2017 Alberta Opportunity Stream intended to replace the employer driven streams Factors to be taken into account: Occupational Requirements (eligibility for the occupation) All Skill Levels (NOC 0, A,B,C,D) except certain occupations Minimum Language ability Minimum High School Education (or equivalent) Minimum Income Thresholds based on number of family members
7 Proposed Changes to AINP Alberta Opportunities Stream THE AOS would replace AINP s current employer driven stream. To qualify for nomination under the new AOS stream, there are a number of factors which will be considered including: Occupation requirements the applicant must be employed in an eligible occupation in Alberta. Most occupations under National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill levels 0, A, B, C and D are eligible under the AINP. However, there will likely be some exceptions for ineligible occupations. Residency/work requirements at the time the application submitted and throughout the processing of the AINP application, the applicant must have a valid work permit and be living or working in Alberta. They cannot be in implied status or in the process of applying for restoration (it is important to apply for extensions early if anticipating applying for AINP).
8 Alberta Opportunity Stream continued Language requirements the applicant must demonstrate language proficiency of at least CLB 4 in each language skills (reading, speaking, writing, listening). The proposal included an increase in language level required by January, 2019 the language level required will increase to a minimum of 5 in each language skill. Test results must be less than two years old at the time of the AINP application. Education requirements the applicant must have completed at least a Canadian high school diploma or equivalent. The applicant s highest level of education must be verified by way of an Educational Credential Assessment ( ECA ). Work experience applicants are required to have a minimum of 12 months of work experience in their current occupation in Alberta within the last 18 months; or a minimum of 24 months of full-time work experience in their current occupation in Canada and/or abroad within the last 30 months. This work experience can be a combination of experience gained in Alberta, in Canada (outside Alberta) and/or abroad.
9 AOS Work Experience continued The work experience must have been full time (minimum 30 hours per week), must have been in the same occupation as the current application and must have been authorized by IRCC (valid work permit). Time spent working as a student and during co-op terms does not count. At the time of the application and during processing, the Applicant must have a full time job offer to work for an incorporated or registered business with a place of business in Alberta. The following individuals are not eligible, even if they have a job offer to work 30 hours a week or more in a 12-month period: part-time employees, regardless of their working hours, independent contractors, business owners or temporary agency workers, or employees who work in Alberta in a place of employment that is not zoned for commercial or industrial operations, such as a home-based business employees who do not work on a premises in Alberta, such as those who work in a virtual location or serve the employer by telecommuting from a location outside Alberta
10 Income Level Requirements At the time the application is postmarked, the Applicant must meet a minimum gross annual income level based on their family unit size. The family unit includes: The Applicant, and if applicable: their spouse or common-law partner their dependent children the spouse or common-law partner s dependent children any dependent children of the Applicant s dependent children any dependent children of the spouse or common-law partner s dependent children

12 Current Status In January, AINP advised AOS would be postponed with no date for implementation Stakeholders are invited to provide feedback to the Minister / Deputy Minister AINP received limited Express Entry allocation (100) additional nominations out of a total of A portion of the original 5500 were also allocated to EE. Unless EE is set up this year, these allocations may not be used. AINP received 2000 applications after the preannouncement and have an inventory of close to nominations issued year to date. Some streams continue to have backlogs (Students, Skilled Worker)
13 When to use AINP Historically: Helpful for those who didn t meet other Federal stream requirements No language testing for skilled workers International Students with insufficient points for EE invitation Going forward: Will be required to meet Federal Stream eligibility Language testing required Minimum Income Requirements Students better positioned under EE if they have a job offer Option for Province to select from EE Pool based on local labour market needs Likely will implement other intake management guidelines Less predictability currently around applications in the queue, will prioritize new stream when it comes online
