Maize+ blackgram (2:2) intercropping (0.8 ha) : 0.8 ha, Rainfed : Cooperative Society : ORP, 2007, 2008 and 2009 : Different crop-based interventions like maize+blackgram (2:2) intercropping, groundnut+ sesame (6:2) intercropping, improved variety of sorghum fodder and greengram increase the net return by per cent over the traditional crop growing practices. Similarly, in case of animals improved technical interventions like better feeding and health management brought an increase of per cent over the traditional practices. Other interventions like introduction of ber plants, recycling of organic waste through NADEP compost and availability of green fodder during the lean period were also implemented. Through traditional practice, farmer could not get anything from local maize. B. plough was done in summer. After rain in July implement rotavator was used for effective seed bed preparation and turning of weed biomass in to the soil. Two intercropping systems were adopted. On upper ridge of field, maize+ blackgram (2:2) and on lower ridge of field, groundnut+ sesame (6:2) were grown. In maize, ridging 30 DAS was done.
