3 Growing Confidence Through Our Testing Footprint. The DEKALB brand promise is Growing Confidence. Our regional agronomists, trained sales reps, local DEKALB retail locations and Monsanto Technical Support professionals are all here to help you transform great yield potential into actual in-field performance. We confidently bring you the products in this seed guide thanks to the work of our DEKALB agronomists through our Market Development Trial (MD) program. DEKALB brand hybrids and varieties have been extensively tested across eastern Canada by farmers in real growing conditions. This results in a robust data set for making decisions on your farm. Each summer, the DEKALB brand field team invites you to tour these locations and see how our products perform in their local conditions. Call 1-84-GO-DEKALB to find out more about tours in your area. We are committed to gathering and transparently sharing data. Visit to see all trials in your area. Our expert agronomists use the data collected to provide individual farmers with customized hybrid or variety recommendations to suit the needs of their farm. If you are interested in learning more about an agronomic recommendation for DEKALB products on your farm, call 1-84-GO-DEKALB to book an appointment with a DEKALB brand representative. Our commitment to you. DEKALB seed is produced under high quality standards, then conditioned and treated at ISO standard facilities, and we strive to exceed industry quality standards. If environmental conditions require you to replant, we will cover the cost of the replacement seed. We ll also help you match an earlier-maturing DEKALB hybrid or variety to your field and growing season.* When you need answers or advice, our knowledgeable DEKALB field and support people are standing by. Call our Technical Support line at , or call or visit your DEKALB Dealer. We know you depend on the success of your crop. That s why you can depend on Monsanto to make it right. * Subject to availability and inspection by DEKALB representative. Soybean replant policy subject to seed treatment. 35 Monsanto Traits. Driving Innovation. We re working hard to develop and deliver products that make farmers more productive and more profitable. The agricultural challenges of today provide opportunities for Monsanto traits to benefit farmers and the land they farm. Upcoming trait products will significantly improve yield potential for farmers by helping protect their crops against the devastation caused by diseases, drought, pests, and weeds. And by increasing yields, we can help improve on-farm productivity allowing farmers to meet the growing global demands for food, feed and fuel. DEKALB GENUITY ROUNDUP READY 2 YIELD SOYBEANS More beans per pod, more bushels per acre. Through extensive gene mapping and advanced trait insertion technology, DEKALB Genuity Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans deliver outstanding yield potential. In addition to this technology, our extensive lineup of DEKALB soybeans includes varieties with resistance to Soybean Cyst Nematode (SCN), as well as products offering disease tolerance, and strong vigour, emergence and standability. The DEKALB brand team knows Roundup Ready 2 Xtend Soybeans DEKALB Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybeans have the same leading genetics and performance that soybean growers have come to expect from the DEKALB brand. The DEKALB brand is offering Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybean varieties ranging from RM; the most products across the greatest range in maturities. Farmers who purchase corn products that are not designated as RIB Complete required to plant a refuge that is appropriate for that product. As part of the IRM plan for RIB Complete corn, experts recommend that growers incorporate crop rotations (out of corn), use of pyramided traits for below ground pests and, when appropriate, use of insecticides to minimize selection of resistant populations. Farmers should monitor their RIB Complete corn fields for targeted insect pests and contact their local Monsanto representative, retailer, or Monsanto s Technical Support line at if they observe any unusual performance problems. 38 OUTSMART YOUR WEEDS in 3 Steps Diversify your rotation. 1 Know the truth about resistance and how it develops 2 3 Spice up your mix Add another effective mode of action to the tank Diversify your crop rotation Break the pattern A common theme of resistance includes predictable patterns. Continuously growing the same crop and relying on only one mode of action for weed control can eventually lead to resistance. Maximize early-season weed removal by including a tank-mix product with your pre-plant or preemergence glyphosate application. Consider including a residual product for extended early-season weed control. Grow at least three different crops in rotation to break cycles of disease, insects and weeds. What is another effective mode of action? It s a second herbicide group that you can add to your spray tank with your glyphosate or first herbicide. Make sure both herbicide groups control the most difficult target weed. Tank mixing two or more effective modes of action will help reduce the selection pressure caused by using only one herbicide group. Weeds outsmart habits, not systems. A diverse crop rotation gives you the opportunity to use different herbicide groups, which helps prevent resistance from developing. Glyphosate-resistant giant ragweed in Ontario. Source: University of Guelph and Monsanto Canada, 2010 Here is a glyphosate-resistant giant ragweed infestation in a soybean field. This farmer continuously cropped this field with soybeans, did not use tillage and made multiple glyphosate-only applications. Here is another field where a farmer used a three-crop rotation (Roundup Ready corn, Genuity Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans and wheat), periodic tillage and tank mixes. Using these practices, the farmer successfully controlled glyphosate-resistant giant ragweed populations. Visit RRWMS.ca for more resistance insight and chemistry recommendations. ALWAYS READ AND FOLLOW PESTICIDE LABEL DIRECTIONS. Roundup Ready technology contains genes that confer tolerance to glyphosate, an active ingredient in Roundup brand agricultural herbicides. Agricultural herbicides containing glyphosate will kill crops that are not tolerant to glyphosate. Tank mixtures: The applicable labeling for each product must be in the possession of the user at the time of application. Follow applicable use instructions, including application rates, precautions and restrictions of each product used in the tank mixture. Monsanto has not tested all tank mix product formulations for compatibility or performance other than specifically listed by brand name. Always predetermine the compatibility of tank mixtures by mixing small proportional quantities in advance. Either no adverse effects from the hybrid/ herbicide combination were noted or only slight damage could be noted under adverse conditions or herbicide application at higher than label rates. 44 DEKALB PRO The term BIG DATA gets tossed around a lot these days. Your DEKALB Agronomist knows how to put BIG DATA to work on your farm. DEKALB Agronomists have been collecting and analyzing massive amounts of plot data for the better part of a decade. We developed the DEKALB PRO software tool to allow us to run variety comparisons against our own canola, corn and soybean products as well as those of our competitors. DEKALB PRO allows us to find and visualize trends like geographical strengths, soil type preferences, and optimal populations, planting dates and tillage types. Your DEKALB Agronomist can use this tool to mine the hundreds of thousands of data points DEKALB PRO holds to provide exclusive recommendations for your farm. The end result is a prescriptive recommendation for a specific hybrid or variety for your individual fields or farm. See what DEKALB PRO can do for your farm Call 1-84-GO-DEKALB to book an appointment with your regional DEKALB Agronomist today. On the laptop screen at the top of the page, you see five DEKALB corn hybrids with similar relative maturities and can compare how they perform under the specific conditions: clay-loam soil, early-to-mid planting timing, zero or conservation tillage in a mid-range yield environment. Looking at these yield and moisture graphics your DEKALB Agronomist can better help you select the right hybrid for your field. DEKALB PRO is a trademark of Monsanto Technology LLC, Monsanto Canada Inc. licensee Monsanto Canada Inc.
