GFSI Tools for Change Auditor Competence Strengthens the credibility of the audit against GFSIrecognised certification programmes. Global Markets Programme Step-by-step approach to develop capacity in operations lacking mature food safety systems. 18
GFSI Tools for Change GFSI Benchmarking Requirements Benchmarking Requirements Endorsement of existing CPOs. Approval, support and authorisation of existing standards by a global body. Based on Codex Alimentarius The backbone of GFSI Key tool to: advance food safety improve efficiency foster harmonisation 19
GFSI Tools for Change Safety along the entire value chain GFSI s Farm to Fork approach takes into account each cope of the supply chain. 20
GFSI Tools for Change Once Certified, Recognised Everywhere GFSI-recognised Food Safety Certification Programme Owners (CPOs) GFSI recognition acting as a food safety passport 21
GFSI Tools for Change Global Markets Programme GFSI Global Markets Programme Step-by-step approach to develop capacity in operations lacking mature food safety systems. A Roadmap to Safer Food and Market Access Free voluntary tool for development of supplier food safety management systems Supports operations in primary production and manufacturing which lack strong food safety systems Guidance toward certification against GFSI-recognised certification programmes. 22
GFSI Tools for Change In a Nutshell 1. For small businesses and because of limited size, technical expertise, economic resources and/or the nature of their work, certification would be unattainable. 2. GFSI has developed a solution for them: The Global Markets Programme as The pathway to market access and certification 3. The GFSI Global Markets Programme is a voluntary, free access system designed as an unaccredited, non-certification assessment process. 4. It considers both primary production in the field and manufacturing in the factory and concentrates on building capacity. 23
OBJECTIVES AIM GFSI Tools for Change Aim & Objectives Develop effective food safety management systems through a systematic continuous improvement process Provide a route for small and less developed businesses to achieve accredited certification Support capacity building efforts and improve market access opporunities Local Sourcing Local Manufacturing Local Produce Local Selling 24
GFSI Tools for Change The Scope Manufacturing > Manufacturing of processed foods > Planned: Preparation of primary products Primary Production > Farming of plants > Planned: Farming of grains, animals, fish and production of feed 25
GFSI Tools for Change A Response to Business Needs: A Local Sourcing Strategy A new unaccredited entry point for small or less developed businesses that aspire to achieve certification. Considering both primary production and manufacturing. A system for mutual acceptance at this entrance level. Unaccredited, so not a scheme or a standard. Capacity building in food safety is achieved. Facilitated access to local markets. 26
GFSI Tools for Change GFSI Auditor Competence Model Auditor Competence Strengthens the credibility of the audit against GFSIrecognised certification programmes. Effective delivery of food safety systems relies on a robust audit GFSI Auditor Credentialing Knowledge Exam Skills Assessment Competency Framework Manufacturing (published 2014) Other scopes in progress 27
Be Part of the Solution Connect with the GFSI Community Benefit from GFSI Solutions Contribute to GFSI Working Groups Implement the Tools for Change 28
