1 AUTOMATIC SOIL SAMPLING AND FARM MAPPIG DEVICE PROJECT REFERENCE NO. : 37S0121 COLLEGE : B.V.BHOOMARADDI COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY, HUBLI BRANCH : AUTOMATION AND ROBOTICS GUIDE : AMIT TALLI STUDENTS : MAHALAXMI KUMBARI CHETAN SIDNAL SOUMYA.YENKANCHI NINGANAGOUDA MYADAGOPPA Introduction: Manual Soil Sampling Method India is vast agriculture land. As it developing, still agriculture plays a big role in Indian economic revenue. When we compare this to western agriculture (USA & some parts of Europe) where we can see the modernization in soil sampling techniques, but still India lags behind uses primitive methods for soil sampling. Sampling process is done [2] using augers by rotating them against soil surface and then the soil which is attached to tool is collected. This sampling is done mostly in the month of March to April and during early morning or late evening. In any farm number of soil samples collected depends upon parameters of that farm such as color of soil, moisture content, level of surface etc. Sample collection may be in simple random manner, stratified manner or systematic manner. 1
2 There are many advantages of automatic sampling of the soil could be listed as: Uniformity in soil sampling. To avoid soil disturbance. To increase accuracy. To reduce time. To reduce human efforts. To make sampling easy during summer. For easy and accurate division of farm for sampling. To reduce cost of fertilizers. So we are here with a new procedure or technology for soil sampling. Which will lead farmer to do smart farming, and increase his farming land efficiency mean time helps them to increase their productivity. The primary purpose of our project is to do farm mapping where when a particular distance is reached the device will give stop signal to driver then it automatically collect soil samples, each time it will collect samples in different trays. Unlike manual soil sampling in this process it is going to save time and also it is accurate as compared to manual soil sampling. It consists of mechanical body, controller to make decision and a mechanism for soil sampling. 2
3 Problem Statement Design and Manufacture an automated soil sampling and farm mapping device. which is able to collect soil from all types of farms and to store it in trays. Objective Tree Objective tree describes about hierarchy of objectives of project i.e. primary objectives, secondary objectives and all. 3
4 Methodology: Interfacing of Electrical Components Interfacing of all the electrical components gives the basic working and testing of the components and also mainly checks the connectivity with Arduino. Sensor interfacing (slotted encoder sensor) Slotted sensor detects the presence of the object in between the slots and also we can use it for controlling motor rotation using any microcontroller board. Slotted encoder sensor mainly used for calculating wheel speed by calculating no of patches which are attached with wheel Digital compass interfacing circuit Fig 1 Slotted sensor Circuit diagram gives the interfacing of the magnetic compass with arduino. 5 Device Working Flow Chart Conclusion: Here the device is mainly helping the farmer in taking the sample of the soil, as the manual soil sampling is done in the summer in the month of March and April it is very difficult for a farmer to collect the soil and also the manual sampling is done by the Auger and that might cause a few problems like it might disturb the surrounding soil and also there is a difficulty in collecting that sample, so mainly to avoid such type of problems this automatic soil sampling device helps a way far better. With the completion of this project we will get a device which can be able to do farm mapping, and can collect uniform soil samples which in turn will help in proper testing of soil samples gives proper report of nutrients deficiency. Based on the report, farmer can apply right amount of fertilizers to the particular areas of land. This will reduce the cost of fertilizers. Or a robot can be developed for applying right amount fertilizer when it comes to automated farming. 5
6 Future Scope As we look on to the Future scope we can say as, the trend of Automation and Robotics increasing rapidly, the concept of SMART farming can be applied in Agricultural field. And the time comes when Robots do the Farming and sampling in the Agricultural field. This Automatic Soil Sampling and Farm mapping can be widely be used where the result of this soil sampling can communicate with other devices and completely eliminate Manual sampling and testing.the device which we have designed and developed is a prototype, this device can be manufactured in a large scale for the commercial purpose in future. The device manufactured now is Attachable to tractor or any other vehicle but as we consider future scope the whole design can be made Automatic. This device itself can test the soil property and can add the required nutrients at that point. 6
