Four irrigation levels viz., irrigation as per farmer s practise (control), at 25% depletion of available soil moisture (DASM), at 50% DASM and at 75% DASM and six sugarcane varieties (three early Co 6806, Co 7201 and CoC 671; and three mid late : Co 419, Co 6304 and Co 1148) formed the treatments and were replicated thrice. Commercial cane sugar per cent (CCS %), jaggery quality and yield were studied. Both early and midlate maturing varieties recorded the highest CCS% at 50% DASM. Among the varieties, Co 7201 and CoC 671 recorded the best cane yield at irrigation at 25% DASM, while Co 419 yielded better in moisture deficit condition (75% DASM). The early maturing varieties recorded significantly higher brix and sucrose per cent in juice than midlate varieties. Reducing sugar, ash, nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, calcium and magnesium contents in jaggery showed no significant differences due to irrigation treatments, but significant differences among the varieties was noticed. Net rendoment values of jaggery from different varieties were affected by the irrigation treatments. Irrigation at 75% DASM recorded the least jaggery recovery of 9.83%, while all the other treatments were at par with each other and also superior over 75% DASM. With regard to irrigation treatments, irrigation at 25% DASM was advantageous in recording highest values of jaggery recovery. However, in the early varieties, CoC 671 was found to be equally good with 50% DASM. Page %P Page 1 1 de 6 02/11/ :41 p.m.
