2 About RARS, Anakapalle: RARS, Anakapalle is a lead research centre for sugarcane research of Andhra Pradesh established in 1913 and completed centery,100 years of excellence in sugarcane research and service to farmers by It is also a verification center for Sesamum, rice, millets and pulses. Outstanding varieties released for general cultivation from the research station are Co 213, Co 419, Co 527, Co 975, Co 997, Co 62175, Co A 7602, Co 8401, Co7508, Co 7706, 84A 125, 85A 261, 87A 298, 93A 145, 97A 85,2001A 63 and 98A 163. This research station not only helped the farmers but also sugar industry in realising higher economic returns by evolving high yielding and sucrose rich sugarcane varieties with best management practices to reap higher cane yield and recovery. The release of CoA 7602 has saved the crop against red rot menace and saved the farmers and industry which is said to be a milestone in the annals of station history. A versatile variety 87A298 which was released in the name of Viswamitra in 2002 is trump card of this research centre which occupies more than 60 per cent cane area in Andhra Pradesh and there is no single sugar factory in Andhra Pradesh without considerable area of this variety. Low cost adoptable technologies in crop improvement, crop production and crop protection have been standardized and recommended for adaptation to stabilize the cane area and increase the production of cane, sugar and jaggery in Andhra Pradesh. The contributions of sugarcane research from this research station have been recognized world over like crop log studies which was first reported at this research station for the entire world. In addition to sugarcane, varieties in rice, finger millet, sorghum and pearl millet have been evolved from the research station. Several scientists of eminence have worked in this institute and contributed immensely as a result of which this research station finds a place in world sugar map. About national seminar: The two days national seminar on Integrated Crop Management In Sugarcane For Increasing Cane, Sugar And Jaggery Yields at Visakhapatnam is being organized to discuss research strategies and to draw a road map for expansion of cane area and improvement of cane productivity under present day situation of decreased productivity with increased cost of cultivation and acute labour scarcity. Researchers, faculty members, representatives from sugar industry and students can attend the seminar. The seminar mainly aims to consolidate the research findings across the country
