4 Restrictions Do not apply later than the grain watery ripe stage of crop growth. Do not apply to crops under stress. Do not apply during frosty weather or high temperatures or drought conditions. Applications under such conditions may result in some scorch. The occurrence of rain within 2 hours of application may reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. General information COLSTAR is a broad-spectrum systemic fungicide with eradicant and protectant activity. The different modes of action of its two active ingredients will help prevent the development and build-up of some strains of resistant fungi. COLSTAR is recommended for use in a routine programme of preventative sprays or when diseases are first seen in the crop or are known to be building up in the area. Directions for use Crops/varieties and timing All varieties of winter wheat, winter barley and spring barley. COLSTAR is accepted by the BBPA for use on crops for malting. COLSTAR can be applied once or twice at any time from seedling emergence (autumn or spring) before the beginning of anthesis for winter wheat or up to and including complete emergence of the ear for barley. The total number of applications of formulations containing fenpropimorph must not exceed two in any crop. Control of leaf and ear diseases is most effective if COLSTAR is applied in the spring or early summer when the diseases are first present in small amounts, before they spread to new growth. Application can be repeated after 3-4 weeks if necessary. Programmed applications made soon after flag leaf emergence and again at ear emergence are particularly effective in controlling leaf and ear diseases of winter wheat. fungicides Colstar /Pluton 123

5 Crop safety COLSTAR is safe to use on all commercial varieties of Winter Wheat, Winter Barley and Spring Barley if used as directed. Rate of use 1 Iitre COLSTAR per hectare. Application Apply COLSTAR in 200 litres of water per hectare, using conventional spraying equipment to give good, even coverage of the crop. Where crop growth is dense, increase the water volume to 450 litres/hectare. Avoid spray drift onto neighbouring crops. Apply as a MEDIUM spray as defined by BCPC. Do not use increased concentrations beyond the maximum given above. Weather Do not apply COLSTAR during frosty weather or high temperatures or drought conditions. Application under such conditions may result in some scorch. Rain within 2 hours of treatment may reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. Resistance management When fungicides with the same mode of action are used repeatedly over several years in the same field, naturally occurring less sensitive strains may survive, propagate and become dominant in that field. A pathogen is considered resistant to a fungicide if it survives a correctly applied treatment at the recommended dose and timing, under normal weather conditions. Development of resistance within a pathogen can be avoided or delayed by alternating or mixing products having a different mode of action. COLSTAR contains a DMI fungicide. Resistance to some DMI fungicides has been identified in Septoria leaf blotch (Mycosphaerella graminicola) which may seriously affect the performance of some products. The Fungicide Resistance Action Committee has produced guidelines on the management and avoidance of fungicide resistance. Mixing Shake the bottle well before opening. Half fill the spray tank with water and start agitation. COLSTAR mixes easily with water and should be added directly to the spray tank as filling continues. Wash out container at least twice and add washings to the spray tank. Continue agitation during filling and until spraying is complete. Wash equipment thoroughly after use. Spray tank clean out Thoroughly wash out sprayer according to manufacturer s guidelines and dispose of washings and clean containers according to DEFRA Code of Practice and local water authority guidelines. 7 Safety precautions Operator protection Engineering control of operator exposure must be used where reasonably practicable in addition to the following personal protective equipment: DO NOT APPLY BY HANDHELD EQUIPMENT WEAR SUITABLE PROTECTIVE CLOTHING (IMPERMEABLE COVERALLS), SUITABLE PROTECTIVE GLOVES*, RUBBER BOOTS AND FACE PROTECTION (FACESHIELD) when handling the concentrate, handling the spray boom and contaminated surfaces, adjusting nozzles and when applying by vehicle mounted equipment. However, engineering controls may replace personal protective equipment if a COSHH assessment shows that they provide an equal or higher standard of protection. IN CASE OF CONTACT WITH EYES, RINSE IMMEDIATELY with plenty of water and seek medical advice. DO NOT BREATHE SPRAY. WHEN USING DO NOT EAT, DRINK OR SMOKE. WASH HANDS AND EXPOSED SKIN before eating and drinking and after work. * butyl or nitrile rubber at least 0.5 mm thickness. Environmental protection DANGEROUS TO FISH OR OTHER AQUATIC LIFE. Do not contaminate surface waters or ditches with chemical or used container. Storage and disposal KEEP AWAY FROM FOOD, DRINK AND ANIMAL FEEDING STUFFS. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
