10 Friday March 4 16:00 17:25 M. Jopek, Discover the Innovative Quality Management Improvement within a Radiology Department 1 Achieving CT dose reduction in clinical routine using radiation tracking software A. Parakh, Basel / CH 2 Practical and scientific results after 2 ½ years Radimetrics in Essen J. Theysohn and A. Ringelstein, Essen / DE A. Parakh from the University Hospital of Basel reports experiences with the automatic dose tracking software Radimetrics. Comparing protocols and modalities and analyzing dataset outliers made it possible to identify the reasons for high dose variations between examinations. By optimizing these factors based on the collected data the institution was able to significantly reduce the average radiation doses. In addition, automatic outlier alerts given by the software greatly improved patient safety. J. Theysohn and A. Ringelstein from the University Hospital Essen give insight into lessons learned following the installation of Radimetrics 2 years ago. This tool has enabled them to understand the nature of dose generation distribution in patients, which has resulted in the implementation of major dose reductions. The information gathered from the system has allowed the institution to become instru mental in identifying areas of interest which has resulted in various scientific projects; from comparing calculated dose values to phantom measurements, to understanding dose exposition through native liver imaging, to dose reduction facilitated through the use of modern low-dose scanners or protocols. 11 Saturday March 5 10:15 11:45 Contrast Data Recording and Dose Personalization with Certegra: Real Life Experience Presenters M. del Mar Pérez, Asturias / ES I. Vivas, Navarra / ES Contrast dose management is important to find the right balance between image quality and proper injection parameters to improve patient care. Clearly, overdosing patients can lead to increased rate of adverse events and underdosing them can cause suboptimal diagnostic capacity of the procedure. Dose personalization means administering each patient the adequate dose, taking into account the procedure to be performed, patient characteristics and its history. Also, the possibility to diagnose, having data on the injection together with procedure images, is the basis for adequately informed decision making. Saturday March 5 12:15 13:45 The session will be held in Spanish About the Dose in Radiology Presenters J. Almansa, Granada / ES L. Febrer, As we approach the deadline for transposing the EURATOM directive 59/2013 across the European countries, the session aims at putting some focus in the practical aspects of dose management in radiology from different perspectives within the Spanish context. This will be done by means of sharing opinions, experiences and new approaches of two experts on the topic, a radiologist and a medical physicist, working both in the private and the public setting. L. Febrer, L. Febrer,
12 Saturday March 5 14:00 15:30 J. E. Wildberger, Maastricht / NL Contrast-Enhanced CT Scanning What is Really Necessary for Your Daily Practice? 1 Contrast media application Obtaining robust enhancement patterns in daily practice J. E. Wildberger, Maastricht / NL 2 Understanding the underlying mechanisms of adverse drug reactions and how to identify and treat patients at risk P. B. Persson, Berlin / DE What is important to know for your daily contrastenhanced CT examinations? This very inter active session will address and bring together two important topics with respect to contrast-enhanced CT imaging. Firstly, how to standardize and individualize contrast media delivery to obtain robust image quality that always allows for reliable diagnoses. Secondly, be aware of patients safety and know the properties and risks of contrast agents. J. E. Wildberger has published several peer-reviewed articles on the topic image quality. In his talk he will present the most important aspects to obtain contrast-enhanced images of high quality and provide further information on how to optimize image quality. P. B. Persson is one of the world s leaders in i nvestigating the underlying mechanism of contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN). P. B. Persson published many articles that helped to understand CIN and provide suggestions on how to minimize the risk. However, in his talk, P. B. Persson will not only focus on CIN but also present the underlying mechanisms of other adverse reactions that can occur with iodinated contrast media. The discussion at the end will bring both topics together and provide time to answer questions that often come up in daily practice. Clear Direction. From Diagnosis to Care.
