2 Agenda This live presentation will show how easy it can be to protect, search and provide existing CAD and document Data, by supplying enterprise level features such as automated approval processes, BOM, auto-numbering, Engineering Change Processes, and advanced security through our innovative access rights manager. Showing how it is configurable to meet any of your Document Management needs for small and large companies alike. Page 2

3 PROTECT Permission control With DBSolidEdge it is possible to protect the files from unauthorized editing and erasing. You can hide data and documents to all unauthorized users so that they can't find them with Explorer while keeping them readable and editable to authorized DBSolidEdge users. The Enterprise version makes it possible to manage roles on the operative system level, and to define for each one of them the list of the authorized operations and assign a specific role to any DBWorks user. The Express version, on the other hand, defines only the roles of the administrator, contributors and non-contributors. The security of DBSolidEdge is simple and easy to understand. It keeps the files where you expect them to be and simplifies backing up data. Possibly the greatest advantage brought by the DBSolidEdge security is that it's very light on the machine and on the network. Page 3

4 PROTECT 3D CAD with PDM Design integrity can be guaranteed. This is because the expected file relationships between Assemblies, Parts, Drawings, and other files controlled by the PDM can be safely copied, moved, and/or renamed. Data is entered once. From that point forward the references and captured data is usable and controlled without reentry (single point of entry). File names, part numbers, descriptions, and BOM structures are classic examples. Reliable relationship management/tracking with speedy search engines allows for saved time and money. Page 4

5 PROTECT Direct document integration Being a Solid Edge Partner, DBSolidEdge has blended both products by creating a very graphical, easy to use interface. Through this integration you now have clear control of your data and who does what/when allowing you to fully realize your investment in your data and documents. Along with Solid Edge, DBSolidEdge is also integrated with AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, DraftSight, SpaceClaim, ME10, and the Microsoft Office applications. Direct support for supplemental documents is vital for providing clarity. These non-cad files often contain critical data that needs to be treated equally as important (revision control, search criteria, BOM output, etc.). DBSolidEdge allows Parent/Child relationships to be assigned using traditional Drag-&-Drop techniques. Page 5

6 PROTECT Documents States The state of a document in a revision process defines its availability for modifying and saving modifications brought by the user. Not only does this protect the documents from unauthorized changes, it records and protects the history of those changes. A document may have five states; every state is mapped with a different color. Users can have their rights set to control if they can or cannot change the state of a document. Page 6

7 PROTECT Revision Control DBSolidEdge offers unbounded revision schemas that easily control all your CAD and non-cad documents. The revisions can be set up to match your organizations present schema that match your designations and depth. Time stamps, watermarks and automatic s/notifications can protect against parts made from the wrong revision. Page 7

8 PROTECT Engineering Change Your design integrity and costs can be helped greatly with your engineering change process. We realize that the Engineering Change Process usually follow the same premise, yet they invariably differ between companies. DBSolidEdge provides for a process that can, if needed, be configured to fit your Engineering Change Process. Provide automated form creation and workflows for design reviews, sign-off and sign approve. By configuring the process to query automatically the database can see what documents are effected by a change. It allows for Electronic Notifications to all relevant recipriants for the ECN, ECR, ECO and ERN, etc. Page 8

9 PROTECT Integrated Workflow Organizations interested in electronic ECO/ECN data routing with assigned approval definitions appreciate the flexible DBSolidEdge Workflow utilities. Administrators can define and configure multiple Workflow definitions (non-cad files may have a separate definition, etc.). Through standard revision schema criteria, files are either required to pass through the assigned Workflow definition or allowed to bypass Workflow entirely. Triggers and/or events can be used to send automatic s/notifications with attachments if desired. Page 9

10 SEARCH Fast and easy Searching with PDM With DBSolidEdge, there are several fast, easy ways to search Database fields to quickly find the needed document(s) making it easy to find the relevant component for add and/or replace functionality directly from within Solid Edge. Page 10

14 Provide Graphically Presented Information DBSolidEdge presents information in a clear graphical manner. Easily visualize the state and revision of any document. Users do not have to remember which pull down menu to go into for the different commands/information. Use visual cues to graphically present information. With DBSolidEdge, CAD and non-cad users alike can easily view relationships for assemblies, parts, drawings, and non-cad documents. Page 14

15 Provide Auto-Numbering DBSolidEdge can be configured to automatically name and number the documents, saving them in predefined locations that meet any of your corporate criteria. Page 15

16 Provide Bill of Materials While the majority of a BOM is directly inherited from the Assembly s structure within Solid Edge, there are still a few areas in which a database will enhance the BOM output. DBSolidEdge allows for properly rearranging of the numerical BOM item sequence, the creation of PHANTOM parts or non-modeled items like grease or adhesive, etc. and the sharing of the BOM output with existing ERP/MRP/SAP applications. DBSolidEdge allows for our customers complete control of their BOM s so users can append to and/or manipulate some of the data that is automatically inherited from the Assembly s structure or all of the data allowing this information to be fully utilized throughout all departments. DBSolidEdge can also deliver simple BOM s through Multi-Sheet BOM s whichever your needs. Page 16

17 Provide Distributed / Multiple Sites DBSolidEdge is one of the few applications that accommodates advanced flexible methods for supporting this demanding environment. By default, the metadata is almost instantly updated at all sites (industry standard Microsoft SQL Server database functionality). The physical files can be updated through the use of triggers and/or events, on demand by users, or through scheduled times for offpeak usage across the WAN. A Project centric filter can be used to determine the records that can be shared with each participating SQL server based on user access control to the noted projects. Files are replicated through scheduled batch operations, or ondemand by users. There is a single database used for both SolidWorks and Inventor data. 18 Provide Web Viewer Module Our Web Viewer is designed for organizations that need to allow global access to the database and its contents. The connecting clients simply need an internet connection with Microsoft Internet Explorer and an access login. Based on the access rights granted, specific data can be exposed or hidden while file download and conversion commands can be exposed or hidden. Connections and activities are logged for reporting purposes. 19 Provide DBTablet Module With DBTablet you can view your company engineering data from virtually anywhere using a tablet, laptop or mobile phone. DBTablet allows you to view and search from your mobile device using the standard DBSolidEdge interface. Whether you are on the shop floor, at a client facility or a remote manufacturing site, your data is instantly available. DBTablet runs from the web browser of virtually any ios or Android device with no need to install a separate application. Page 19

These include, but are not inclusive to, training on The Software, Microsoft SQL,.NET, Microsoft Operating Systems, SolidWorks, Inventor, Solid Edge, AutoCAD, and the Microsoft Office products.
