7 Where the challenges (still) lie areas of improvement Transparency paradigm - not neglecting the challenges (GRI in accordance reporting) - completeness is essential (not conflicting with materiality) Organization s vision and sustainability strategy (link with products and services) - issue identification, dilemmas/opportunities, top management direction? - is there a clear strategy? Plan-do-check-act implementation? - are the reporting boundaries discussed? (GRI boundaries protocol) Are all challenges clearly stated and prioritized? - issue prioritization process - corporate governance linkage - stakeholder engagement - reporting principles Assurance of report process / verification on the report

8 Future trends Standardisation An accelerating shift towards common formats for non-financial reporting Consolidation An energetic shake-out of the concepts, content and language of no-financial reporting Regulation The emergence of government mandated non-financial reporting Integration Growing attempts to merge, or blend, much of non-financial reporting with financial reporting

10 Where s GRI moving towards? It is clear that the GRI has been enormously successful in achieving the widespread adoption and acceptance of the Guidelines. However, with non-financial reporting reaching critical mass, GRI is at a critical stage in its evolution. Increased standardization of reporting brings both risk and opportunity opportunity to influence hundreds more companies than previously, coupled with risks in the form of lower rates of innovation.
