2 HCI has had a huge impact on the way we shop, both in bricks and mortar shops and online. Self Checkout Self checkouts are automated systems allowing shoppers to buy there products without going thought the normal checkouts. Self Checkout allows retailers to better allocate their resources and experience greater efficiency and higher throughput of shoppers though the checkouts. Shoppers can potentially benefit from shorter lines, expedited checkout, more control, and more privacy. BUT Although self-checkout systems are becoming more prominent in retail stores, they are still far from perfect in terms of ease of usability. Self-checkout still faces many technological problems and these design flaws often frustrate many customers.

3 Self Checkouts Tesco have recently compiled some research into there self checkouts. It was found that the voice was too shouty, It was suggested the female voice is to bossy (Source1/Source2) They are now testing different voices to replace the voice. 4 Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) Electronic Point of Sale or EPOS is an electronic till where the retail transaction is carried out. They usually have: Barcoded scanner which scan the barcodes on the products A screen which shows the product which has been scanned, the price and the total price. Its allows a user to remove, add or add vouchers etc. Cash Draw Receipt Printer EPOS systems allow a company to record all transaction and they can use this data, for example stock management or forecasting etc.

5 Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) EPOS interfaces are made to be easy to use and fast to use. Staff can use them without much training compared to older no electronic systems, it does all the work (calculations etc. ) They allow staff to quickly add products and get the shoppers though.

7 Online Shopping Amazon is one of the biggest online retailers in the world. Its interface is easy to use, customers can find the product they are looking for quickly inside a vast catalogue of items. Buying a items only takes a few steps, the interface is intuitive and is easy to learn and use.
