13 Define your organization s pillars for transition success Provider documentation: Ensure specificity for ICD-10 capture Coding : Create strategies for coder retention and maximize coder productivity Technology: Remediate systems and reports, complete testing; implement new systems Training: Educate and provide tools for coders, providers, and support staff

14 Provider Documentation: ensure specificity for ICD-10 capture Implement tools and systems that support provider documentation to enable ICD-10 capture today Documentation Optimize current systems it s about workflow Leverage existing Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) programs or implement one to get the specificity needed in ICD-9 and ICD-10 today Provide ICD-10 education and easy to access tools supporting physicians in documentation specificity (i.e. ICD-10 mobile documentation reference guide) Migrate all physician notes to electronic documentation (reduce paper documentation) to enable use of computer assisted coding tools Enable synonym mapping tools within EHR for ease discreet diagnosis capture (e.g. Problem Lists, Diagnosis Lists, Orders)

This may impact code processing rules, interfaces, backend reporting & analysis used for trending, reimbursement, and research Develop test strategy that ensures complete validation of business outcomes and technical integration points across impacted applications
