3 1 Introduction What is this qualification about? The following purpose is for the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Plastering. Area Who is this qualification for? Description This qualification is for you if you wish to work as a plasterer in the construction industry. While there are no formal entry requirements, it is recommended learners have either completed the Level 1 qualification or have prior knowledge and skills at Level 1 in Plastering. What does the qualification cover? This qualification is suitable for you if you are 16 years old or over. This qualification covers a wide range of skills and knowledge required for preparing to work in the construction industry. You will have the opportunity to specialise in solid plastering, fibrous plastering or dry lining. The following topics are covered within this qualification: health, safety and welfare in construction principles of building construction, information and communication applying plastering materials to interiors. The optional topics you will cover for the solid pathway include: laying floor screed systems installing direct bond and taping and jointing applying plastering materials to external backgrounds. The optional topics you will cover for the fibrous pathway include: producing reverse moulds constructing running moulds repairing damaged fibrous plasterwork. The optional topics you will cover for the dry lining pathway include: fixing and finishing lining systems installing metal furring ceilings fixing metal stud partitioning systems. 4 What opportunities for progression are there? Will this qualification lead to further learning? Who did we develop the qualification with? This qualification could lead to a job as a solid or fibrous plasterer or a dry liner, working for a house-building company, a property development company, or work as part of a small business repairing and refurbishing buildings. This qualification could also lead to an apprenticeship or traineeship in plastering or dry lining. You could progress onto any of the following qualifications: Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Plastering (450) Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Plastering (Construction) Solid Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Plastering (Construction) Fibrous Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Work Supervision (Construction). This unit provides learners with an understanding of the principles of construction, building technology and terminology used. 16 Unit 202 Internal plastering and fixing sheet materials UAN: Level: 2 GLH: 120 What is this unit about? The aim of this unit is for learners to have the knowledge, understanding and skills required to prepare and finish internal ceilings and walls within buildings. Learners will use a selection of sheet materials, preformed beads, backing and finishing plasters. The unit will provide learners with skills and understanding of how to plan, select resources and apply plasters and sheet materials in a safe way to the correct specification. Protection of the work environment must be considered during all stages of the plastering process. Learners can be introduced to this unit by asking themselves questions, such as: 1. What is the difference between modern and traditional plasters? 2. What is performance plasterboard? 3. What type of backgrounds will I come across in buildings? 4.
