8 packaging & logistics Packaging INTRABOND panels are cut to length and packed on cushioned, wooden skids. The sheets are wrapped with industrialweight, water-resistant paper for protection and the skid is enclosed with 1/2 -thick OSB board. The Logistics INTRABOND s world-class production facility combines U.S. manufacturing best practices with a strategic South Carolina, USA location near interstate highways and the Port of Charleston. This duality, plus domestic and worldwide sales and distribution networks, make possible the sourcing of world class raw materials as well as domestic and global shipments of finished product. 8

9 fabrication Conventional woodworking and metalworking tools can easily transform INTRABOND aluminum composite panels into many creative shapes. Cutting A variety of woodworking saws can easily cut the panels: portable, table, panel rip/ V groove and reciprocating. Carbide tip blades recommended for aluminum and plastic cutting should be used for all cuts. To ensure clean joint intersections, standard woodworking planers, shapers joiners or milling machines can be used for edge finishing. Drilling Panels can be drilled with standard twist drills recommended for aluminum and plastics. Routing Panel angle bends are accomplished with a simple routing operation that creates a groove on the back side of the panel. Use a standard commercially available router with special bits or a circular saw with a special V routing blade. The bits or the blade should be designed to provide a 105 groove with a 1/32 flat. The depth of the V groove is critical the back aluminum skin and a part of the core material is removed leaving a minimum.02 of core material with the front aluminum skin. Custom Router Bit 95 TO 105 Commercially available wood working router bit 90 Curving Panels can be cold formed using a pyramid type roller, press brake or over a clamped pipe. Minimum bending radius is 15 times the thickness of the panel. Welding The best method for joining thermoplastic LDPE core material is Hot Air Welding. Joint welds are created using an electrically heated hot air 60 Aluminum cap sheet adhered to the back skin of the INTRABOND panel welding tool to melt a 5mm (3/16 ) welding rod made of low density, UV stabilized polyethylene. Temperature setting on the welding tool should be 268 C (500 F). Prior To Fabricating: 1. Do not strip back or remove the.08mil factory applied protective covering during fabrication. 2. Installation Methods INTRABOND aluminum composite panels are installed using a variety of attachment methods in accordance with accepted curtainwall design practices. Installers will normally use a wet-seal or dry-seal type system as represented in the conceptual drawings. 10 Coating Directionality Metallic finishes will exhibit grain flow, optical diffusion and reflection inherent with the coil coating process and paint composition. To accomplish best color consistency for all installation elevations, the panel layout should closely adhere to the directional arrows on the protective film. Expansion, Contraction, Deflection INTRABOND panels will thermally expand and contract depending on environmental conditions. Recommended compensation for this type of movement is for the panel joints to be set at a minimum 16mm (5/8 ) wide spacing. To reduce the inherent panel deflection from wind load, mechanical stiffeners should be fastened to the panel across the shortest panel dimension. Actual stiffener spacing is determined by the installer based on a number of design variables such as stiffener strength, wind load allowable deflection, etc. Sealants Silicone sealants generally exhibit excellent compatibility and adhesion with Duranar FC coating systems. The sealants are used to caulk panel joints as well as to adhere extrusions and stiffeners. Panel Repair INTRABOND aluminum composite panels are shipped with a.08mm factory applied strippable protective film. This film should not be removed until installation is complete. However, should the panels become scratched, nicked or dented during installation, the coating can be repaired with body putty and air-dry, touch-up paint. Cleaning The Duranar FC coating provides an excellent protective surface for the INTRABOND panels that will resist chalking and color fading. Depending on building location and environmental/atmospheric conditions, routine cleaning may be required. Cleaning might involve just a fresh water rinse or a solution of mild detergent and water. Mineral spirits can be used sparingly, followed by a fresh water rinse. Before using any cleaning solution or product, it is advisable to test it on a small, inconspicuous surface before using on large visible surfaces.
