Location Nominal Mix Size Binder Class Binder Specification Where no indication is given, the contractor shall use a binder complying with the requirements of the Pavement Design Supplement. Transport and Main Roads Specifications, July
6 3 DEFORMATION RESISTANCE TESTING (Clause 7.2.7) Examples of where deformation resistance testing may be ordered are as follows: - Large scale / high risk projects where it is desirable to know the deformation resistance characteristics of the mixes at the commencement of the asphalt works. - New mix designs that do not have a track record of proven performance. Deformation resistance testing is required for the following mixes. 4 CRACK FILLING (Clause 8.2.3) Cracks are to be filled in the following areas. 5 STRAIN ALLEVIATING FABRIC STRIPS (Clause 8.2.4) Strain alleviating fabric strips are required in the following areas. Transport and Main Roads Specifications, July
7 6 MATERIAL TRANSFER VEHICLE (Clause 8.3) Technical Note 28 provides guidance on the appropriate selection and use of a Material Transfer Vehicle. A material transfer vehicle is required to be used for the following layers. 7 BRIDGE STRUCTURES (Clause 8.3) Load limits apply on structures within the Work as follows. STRUCTURE CHAINAGES DETAILS 8 PAVING IN ECHELON (Clause 8.3) An example of where paving in echelon may be specified is as follows: - A large scale project - The site is free from public traffic - The site does not have constrained site conditions and - Full width paving is possible Paving in echelon is required to be used for the following layers. Transport and Main Roads Specifications, July
8 9 PLACEMENT TRIAL (Clause 8.11) An example of where placement trial may be specified is a large scale/high risk project. A placement trial is required for each of the following layers. 10 RIDE QUALITY (Clauses & 9.6.2) A better ride quality (i.e. lower roughness count) costs more to achieve than a lower ride quality. Therefore it is important that an appropriate ride quality requirement is specified for the particular project involved. A maximum roughness count of 50 counts per kilometre typically applies on TMR roads. However, a lower maximum roughness count of 40 counts per kilometre may be specified in some instances (e.g. for heavily trafficked, high speed roads such as motorways, arterial roads and national highways). The surface evenness requirement for the Works shall be as follows. If no indication is given, a maximum roughness count of 50 counts per kilometer shall apply. 11 SUPPLEMENT REQUIREMENTS (Clause 11) The following supplementary requirements shall apply. Transport and Main Roads Specifications, July
