10 Chapter 3 Provides minimum design criteria Engineered design required for wood frame structures > 2 stories & basement in hgt. Engineered design required for floor, wall or roof/ceiling elements in dwellings designed of cold-formed steel, concrete, masonry or structural insulated panels.
11 CA is allowing a reduced fire- separation distance & reduced penetration protection for buildings equipped throughout with automatic sprinklers. Garages < 3 ft from a dwelling unit on the same lot requires minimum of ½ gypsum board or equivalent applied to the interior side of exterior walls that are within this area.
12 Carports with habitable space above & attached garages shall be sprinklered. Automatic garage door openers if provided, must be listed I/A/W UL 325 CA amendment: Habitable levels or basements >1 story above or below an egress door max 50 travel from any occupied point to a stairway or ramp providing egress.
13 Carbon monoxide alarms required in new construction & alterations >$1k with the same requirements as smoke alarms. R317 requires field treatment of cut ends, notches & drilled holes in treated wood.
14 Chapter 4 Foundations Specific requirements for seismic reinforcement and anchorage. Sections on concrete and masonry foundation walls. Separate section on pier & curtain wall foundations. R408 Under floor ventilation.

23 Part 3 CA Electrical Code Article Raceways in Wet Locations Above Grade. The interior of those raceways shall be considered a wet location. This prohibits Type NM cable within a raceway in a wet location. Article 310 new requirements for adjustment factors for conductors or cables in conduits exposed to sunlight on rooftops.
24 Disconnects Capable of Being Locked Open: The provisions for locking or adding a lock to the disconnecting means shall remain in place at the switch or circuit breaker whether the lock is installed or not. Portable means for adding a lock to the switch or circuit breaker shall not be permitted. This is in multiple sections of Ch 4, 5, & 6. Locking provisions have to be a part of the equipment either inherent to
25 the equipment design or as an accessory feature that can be per- manently installed on the equipment. NEC covers installations & not portable locking provisions that could satisfy requirements in NFPA 70E, Article 120. NEW Tamper Resistant Receptacles in Dwelling Units.
26 New (E) Life Safety Branch adds gen set & transfer switch locations to list of places requiring lighting from life safety branch circuit Definitions for Pools, Spas, Fountains. Revised definition for types of pools to include immersion. immersion. This is directed towards pools of water used as a baptistry to immerse persons in water.
27 New (B)(2) Equipotential Bonding. Significant changes applying to all surfaces, including unpaved (grass). Requires attachment to pool reinforcing min 4 points spaced around the pool perimeter (C) Equipotential Bonding Pool Water. 9sq inches of conductive surface area required in the pool to bond the pool water.

29 Ch 7 Special Conditions Code now recognizes 5 different types of power systems: 700 Emergency 701 Legally Required Standby 702 Optional Standby 705 Interconnected Electric Power Production Sources 708 Critical Operations Power Systems (COPS)
30 Ch 8 Communications Systems Specific requirements for installations, grounding, separation and labeling. Essentially requires all of the low voltage folks to follow the same rules all of the sparkies have to follow! Includes Network-Powered Broad Band Communications Systems.
31 Part 4 CA Mechanical Code Definitions have changed. New Wall mounted exhaust hood assemblies shall be tight fitting against the back wall as to not permit passage of grease vapor behind the hood, or between the back wall & hood assembly.
32 New Listed hood assemblies shall be tested per UL 710 or equivalent. [NFPA 96:5.4.2] New Listed Ultra-Violet Hoods Prior SFM amendment allowing redu clearance from grease duct to an enclosure has been deleted.
33 Ch 6 Duct Systems New The performance requirements treat a duct a s a structural assembly. Tables through have been deleted. New General Ducts Under Floor or Crawl Space.
34 Ch 7 Combustion Air New Where exhaust fans, kitchen ventilation systems, clothes dryers interfere with the operation of appliances, make up air shall be provided.
35 Ch 8 Chimneys & Vents New: Single-wall metal pipe shall not be used as a vent in dwellings and residential occupancies
36 Chapter 9 Installation of Specific Appliances Under-floor Installation of furnaces. Changes regarding support. Also new addition of requirements for excavation for clearances and accessible passageway Suspended Low-intensity infrared tube heaters. New section.
37 Section 920 Open-top broiler units. New requirements HCD Unvented fuel burning room heaters shall not be installed, used, maintained, or permitted to exist in a Group R occupancy. New: Installation of compressed natural gas fueling systems requirement.
38 Chapter 11 Refrigeration New: Refrigerant service ports exposed to outdoors shall be fitted with locking-type tamper- resistant caps or shall be protected from unauthorized access by a means acceptable to the Enforcing Agency.
39 Chapter 12 Hydronics Requirements for pipe installations and use of heat-fusion joints for polypropylene pipe. Included are installation standards for types of pipe used.
40 Chapter 13 Fuel Piping HCD adopted this chapter, which is the same as Chapter 12 of the California Plumbing Code.
41 Part V California Plumbing Code Extensive changes to definitions in Chapter 2. Many new definitions added by HCD
42 Chapter 3 HCD: Section Dielectric Unions shall be used at all points of connection where there is a dissimilarity of metals Add push-fit fitting as a connection Add heat fusion weld joints for PP piping.
43 Chapter 4 Plumbing Fixtures and Fixture Fittings Section on water conservation fixtures. Includes requirements for non-water urinals. HCD added standards for water conservation in fixtures section. New: Listing for hot water thermostatic mixing valve now placed in the code rather than in Chapter 14 standards.
44 New section added for temperature limit to hot water to bidet to 110. New: Table has been changed. Table A. Occupant Load Factor has been deleted. New: BSC adopts Table 4-2, and 4-44 Minimum Fixture Requirements.
45 Chapter 5 Water Heaters Anchoring requirement shall be for new, replacement and existing water heaters. New: Plastic Vent Joints Where primer is required, it shall be of contrasting color. New: New exception for continued use of unlined chimneys for vents.
46 Chapter 6 Water Supply In occupancies where plumbing fixtures are installed for private use, hot water shall be required for bathing, washing, laundry, cooking, dishwashing or maintenance. Table clarifies when backflow prevention devices are required.
47 New: Non-metallic pipe for water service shall be installed with a tracer wire or other approved conductor, terminating above grade at both ends and shall be 18AWG copper with blue insulation suitable for direct burial. PEX-AL AL-PEX is not adopted for water distribution. HCD has additional use restrictions on CPVC piping in Section New: NSF 61 listing is now required for valves in potable systems.
48 Chapter 7 Sanitary Drainage ABS and PVC are limited to 2 stories in residential. Minimum 2 2 drain for laundry sinks HCD: 2 2 minimum size of discharge pipe from a sump pump having a water closet connected to it. Plastic DWV piping shall not be tested by air test method.
49 Chapter 9 Plumbing Vents New: Vent systems shall be designed to prevent a trap seal from being exposed to a pressure differential that exceeds 1 w.c. 1 Wording changes in wet venting sections.
50 Chapter 10 Traps Table has been reformatted to show both the min and max trap arm distance. New changes in section for grease interceptor installations.
51 Chapter 12 Fuel Piping Definitions added. Clarification of sizing criteria New requirements for gas outlet valve installations and locations. A listed gas connector shall be used for suspended low intensity infrared tube heaters (a).
52 Part 11 California Green Building Standards Code Ch 4 Residential Mandatory Measures Indoor Water use. 20% reduction in potable water use per Table or calculation proving the reduction baseline use as established in Table shall be provided for fixtures. Outdoor Water use. Auto irrigation system controllers must be weather or soil moisture-based, automatically adjust irrigation in response to changes in plants needs as weather conditions change or
53 shall have a separate wired or wireless rain sensor. Construction Waste Reduction and Recycling. Recycle and/or salvage for reuse a min of 50% of the nonhazardous construction & demolition debris, or meet a local construction & demolition waste management ordinance, whichever is more stringent. Construction Waste Management Plan. Shall be submitted for approval to the enforcing agency where that agency does not have a management ordinance.
54 Isolated job sites. AHJ may make exceptions to the req s of this section when jobsites are located in areas beyond the haul boundaries of the diversion facility. Building Maintenance And Operation. At the time of final inspection, a manual, compact disc, web-based based reference or other media acceptable shall be placed in the building per Pollutant Control. Tables for VOC limits and formaldehyde limits.
55 Interior Moisture Control. At least 3 random moisture readings shall be performed on wall & floor framing with documentation acceptable to the AHJ provided at the time of approval to enclose the wall & floor framing. Interior Air Quality & Exhaust. All mech exhaust bath fans shall be Energy Star compliant & ducted to terminate outside the building. Unless functioning as a component of a whole house ventilation system, fans must be controlled by a humidistat capable of adjustment within a relative humidity range of 50 to 80%.
56 Whole house exhaust fans shall have insulated louvers or covers with a min R-4.2 value which close when the fan is off.
57 Non Residential Mandatory Measures Planning. Bicycle parking, designated parking for (clean air vehicles) Indoor Water use: same basic req s as residential. Outdoor Water use: Req s a water budget. For new water service for landscaped areas 1-5K 1 sqft separate meters or submeters shall be installed for indoor & outdoor potable water use.
58 Irrigation design. Same as residential mandatory measures for irrigation controllers. Moisture Control. Design & maintain sprinklers to prevent spray on structures. Design entries & openings to prevent water intrusion into bldgs where subject to foot traffic or wind-driven driven rain. Construction Waste Reduction, Disposal And Recycling. Same as for residential with the addition of:
59 Recycle and/or salvage a min 50% of nonhazardous construction & demolition debris, or meet a local construction & demolition waste management ordinance, which ever is more stringent. Excavated Soil & Land Clearing Debris. 100% of trees, stumps, rocks, & associated vegetation and soils from land clearing shall be reused or recycled. Building Maintenance & Operation. Provide readily accessible areas that serve the entire bldg and are identified for the depositing, storage and collection of nonhazardous materials for recycling (at a minimum) paper, corrugated cardboard, glass, plastics and metals.
60 Commissioning Plan. For new bldgs 10k sq feet and over, bldg commissioning shall be included in the design & construction processes of the bldg project to verify the bldg systems & components meet the owner s s or owner rep s project requirements.
