4 HEALTH HEALTHCARE DEMENTIA NEXT GENERATION DEMENTIA WASHROOMS Our development team at Wallgate have been working closely with experts in the field of dementia to understand the challenges and difficulties of dementia care to develop a bathroom range that supports the care team and improves patient quality of life. WALLGATE WORKING WITH DESIGN IN MENTAL HEALTH Already the chosen sanitaryware partner for their Mental Health Better Bedroom initiative, we are proud to have developed our innovative dementia product range as part of the DIMH drive to develop best practice dementia care. WORKING WITH THE DEMENTIA SECTOR Wallgate has been working closely with Bradford District Care Trust s architect, DLA Freeman White and the University of Stirling s Dementia Services Development Centre (DSDC) to introduce a new range of dementia friendly colours for its anti-ligature fixed toilet seats for the award winning Dementia Assessment Unit centre at Daisy Hill House, Bradford. We have used our expertise to produce a range of shower, basin and WC activation which appear and behave both normal and familiar to the user, yet benefit from the discrete management of our existing range of WDC electronic controllers. This will enable the user to have control over their bathroom using very familiar taps, yet at the same time have the safeguard of the water being managed. This means the basins and showers cannot be left running indefinitely or the WCs repeatedly flushed. If and when the electronics need to automatically stop the water, when next used that outlet behaves as if it were in its normal starting position. As this system is linked to our standard range of controllers, all of the powerful benefits apply, including the ability to monitor, record and store all activity for future analysis. WORKING TOGETHER The chosen solid grey colour was developed for the dementia unit and was the first install, before being launched as a standard colour. It was agreed as dementia-friendly by the DSDC on the basis of existing knowledge and research acknowledging the white pan needed to have 30LRV of colour difference against the seat, providing a solid colour appearance, with no speckles. These products are designed to be highly damage-resistant, normal in appearance and anti-ligature. The product range caters for low risk environments right through to high security forensic healthcare including disabled applications. Our range of solid surface basins and vanity tops are designed to be anti-ligature and tough yet normal in appearance. To aid infection control, all are manufactured as one piece and designed with clean smooth lines to avoid retaining dirt. Water activation is via infrared or piezo sensors dispensing through anti-ligature, regulated water outlets. All services to and from the basin are concealed, managed by our electronic controllers. All models are anti-ligature in design and of domestic appearance to assist in normalising the environment. The AST models have a permanently bonded non-movable, anti-ligature solid surface seat. With WRAS flush approval for 4.5 litre and 6 litre flush, our range of WCs are compatible with a wide range of flushing methods. CUSTOM VANITY TOPS Designed to be robust, anti-ligature and domestic in appearance they are manufactured specifically for your project requirements from high grade solid surface materials finished as a one piece seamless construction; with a wide range of anti-ligature bowls, taps and activation options. The electronics can be networked to a central control point for remote operation or operate as independent devices. While our controls are designed to integrate seamlessly with our specialist range of sanitaryware, they can also be supplied as a standalone system to give the benefits of a well-managed control system when used with existing sanitaryware. In addition to the above, a range of pneumatic and mechanical activation is available. SHOWERS We have a number of shower options ranging from simple, pre-set single temperature through to thermostatically controlled user choice to cater for all patient groups. Each can be dispensed through wall or ceiling mounted safe shower heads including, a detachable option. All are managed by our WDC range of controllers. 8 AFTERCARE SOLID SURFACE TECHNOLOGY Our solid surface is made from a combination of specially formulated Polyester resin together with an extremely high grade Aluminium Trihydrate resulting in a very tough, high impact, chemical and fire resistant material. Our solid surface is manufactured without the use of a gel coated surface enabling the product to be continuously refreshed and renewed looking unspoilt for its life. The material meets the highest levels of durability as defined in BS: ISO 19712, and fire resistance as defined in BS476. Our solid surface products have enabled end users to benefit from high quality sanitaryware, eliminating many of the problems experienced by the use of conventional washroom materials and products. The nature of the solid surface ensures products have longevity, typically 25 years or more.
