2 GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS FOR WOOD FLOORING PLEASE CONSIDER For all wood floor applications / laying methods general rules exist, due to natural reactions / behaviour of wood Substrate / room temperature must be > 15 ⁰C; with underfloor heating ± 20 ⁰C) Wood surface temperature must be < 27 ⁰C Wood has to be protected from negative moisture influences (wall papering, painting) Before wood floor installation the room should have the final climate Wood has to be acclimated to the final climate in the room before installation For moisture content and the quality of substrates the guidelines of the wood floor manufacturer as well as standard construction rules must be observed 2

3 FLOATING INSTALLATION FAST, EASY, CLEAN Characteristics: Floors: 3-ply engineered, laminate Fixation: not fixed to substrate Systems: click or tongue & groove Moisture protection: with plastic sheet, combined with acoustical mat Advantages: Installation: fast, easy and clean Moisture protection: good Acoustics: very little impact noise Subfloor: little force transmission Refurbishment: easy to remove Disadvantages: Floors: stable wood floor / laminate required Acoustics: high airborne noise Substrate: evenness, trampoline effect Life time: shorter Surface area: limited, more dilatations needed 3

4 NAIL / STAPLE / DOWN INSTALLATION OLD SCHOOL Characteristics: Floors: solid, 3-ply engineered Fixation: plywood (OSB) or slat Moisture protection: with plastic sheet Substrate: wood Advantages: Installation: clean Moisture: not sensitive Substrate: evenness and high strength Refurbishment: sanding possible and relative easy to remove Straighten of bent / buckled wood Disadvantages: Floors: thick, stable boards Thickness: higher build up Refurbishment: limited sanding (nail) Underfloor heating: inefficient (slats) Fixation: low quality of fixation, higher risks of joints or gaps Comfort: noisy and creaky 4

5 CORDON / BEADED INSTALLATION FAST & ECONOMICAL Characteristics: Floors: solid, 3-ply engineered (3 beads) Fixation: cordon wise / beaded Adhesive: elastic, strong adhesion power Moisture protection: primering Substrates: concrete, anhydrite, plywood, chipboard Advantages: Installation: very fast Adhesive consumption: low Thickness: low Life time: long Substrates: directly on many substrates Disadvantages: Acoustics: partial airborne noise Floors: not suitable for all wood types Installation: curing before sanding, difficult with bent wood, no guidance Substrate: high quality, preparation (strong & clean) 5

7 FULL SURFACE BONDING BONDING FOREVER Characteristics: Floors: almost all Fixation: full surface bonding on sub floor Adhesive: wide variety available Moisture protection: primering Substrates: concrete, anhydrite, plywood, chipboard Advantages: Installation: short application time Acoustics: low noise level in the room Thickness: minimal Substrates: direct on subfloor Life time: high Fixation: high quality Disadvantages: Floors: not suitable for all wood types Installation: curing before sanding, difficult with bent wood Substrate: high quality, preparation (even, strong & clean) 7
