DHI 115.1G, Installation Guide for Doors and Hardware. 6. NFPA 80, Standard for Fire Doors and Windows. 1.3 SUBMITTALS (Refer Section ) A. Furnish for approval the following: 1. Product Data: Provide manufacturer s standard details and catalog data demonstrating compliance with referenced standards. Provide installation instructions. 2. Certificates: Provide manufacturer s certification that products comply with referenced standards. 3. SDI Membership: Provide evidence of manufacturer s membership in the Steel Door Institute. B. Shop Drawings: Submit for approval the following: 1. Shop drawings showing schedule of door construction, hardware locations, anchorage and fastening methods, door frame types, and finish requirements. 2. Provide schedule of doors and frames using same reference numbers for details and openings as those on Contract Drawings and Schedules. 3. Show details of conduit and preparation for electrified door hardware and controls. 1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE (Refer Section ) A. ANSI/SDI: Provide door and frames complying with ANSI/SDI 100 Recommended Specifications for Standard Steel Doors and Frames and ANSI A250.8, unless more stringent requirements are indicated. 2 B. ADAAG: Provide openings conforming to the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG) and State and Local Regulations. C. Fire-Rated Door Assemblies: Assemblies complying with NFPA 80 that are listed and labeled by a testing and inspecting agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction, for fire protection ratings indicated, based on testing according to NFPA 252. D. Manufacturer Qualifications: Provide all products from a single manufacturer who is a member of the Steel Door Institute. 1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, HANDLING A. Deliver doors and frames, wrapped in cardboard or crated, to provide protection during transit and job storage. B. Inspect doors and frames on delivery for damage, and notify shipper and supplier if damage is found. Minor damages may be repaired provided refinished items match new work and are acceptable to Architect. Remove and replace damaged items that cannot be repaired as directed. C. Store doors and frames at building site vertically under cover. Place units on minimum 4 inch high wood blocking. Avoid using non-vented plastic or canvas shelter that could create a humidity chamber. If packaging becomes wet, remove cartons immediately. Provide minimum 1/4 inch spaces between stacked doors to permit air circulation. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.1 COMPLIANCE A. All manufacturers listed herein without a designated product must comply with the requirements of the specification, and, additionally, with the requirements of a specific manufacturer s product if indicated. Products of other manufacturers will be considered for acceptance provided they equal or exceed the material requirements and functional qualities of the specification. Furnish the Substitution Request Form with complete technical data for evaluation for Architect s approval. Additional approved manufacturers will be issued by Addendum. Refer to Division MANUFACTURERS A. Standard Door Frames and Doors: 1. Amweld Building Products, Inc. 2. Ceco Door Products. 3. Pioneer Industries, Inc. 4. Republic Builders Products. 5. Steelcraft. 2.3 MATERIALS A. Steel Sheet for Doors, Frames, Anchors, and Accessories: 1. Cold rolled steel: ASTM A1008, Commercial Steel, Type B, stretcher-leveled standard of flatness (For interior openings). 2. Metallic-coated steel (Galvannealed): A 653, Commercial Steel, Type B, with an A60 zinc-iron alloy coating, stretcher-leveled standard of flatness, and treated to insure paint adhesion (For exterior openings). 3 B. Supports and Anchors: Minimum inch thick, electrolytic zinc coated or galvanized sheet steel. C. Inserts, Bolts, and Fasteners: Manufacturer's standard units, except hot dip zinc coated items required for exterior walls, complying with ASTM A153, Class C or D as applicable. D. Glazing: Comply with requirements in Section Glazing. E. Shop-Applied Prime Paint: Thoroughly clean and chemically treat to ensure paint adhesion. Apply to all surfaces of the door and frame exposed to view a factory applied coat of rust inhibiting primer, either air-dried or baked-on. Meet the requirements for acceptance stated in ANSI/SDI A GENERAL REQUIREMENTS A. Comply with ANSI A250.8 for level and model, and ANSI A250.4 for physical endurance level. B. Fire-rated openings: Comply with NFPA Affix permanent labels attesting to fire resistance. 2. At stairway enclosures, provide units listed for 450 deg. F. maximum temperature rise rating for 30 minutes of exposure. 2.5 HOLLOW METAL DOORS A. Hollow Metal Doors: 1-3/4 thick. 1. Interior Doors: Referencing ANSI for level and model and ANSI A250.4 for physical endurance: ANSI/SDI-100, Level 3, Physical Performance Level A (Extra Heavy Duty), Model 2 (Seamless), minimum 16 gauge (0.053 inch) cold-rolled steel face sheets. 2. Exterior Doors: Referencing ANSI for level and model and ANSI A250.4 for physical endurance: ANSI/SDI-100, Level 3, Physical Performance Level A (Extra Heavy Duty), Grade III, Model 2 (Seamless), minimum 16 gauge (0.053 inch) cold-rolled galvannealed steel face sheets. B. Cores: Per ANSI A250.8, Section Kraft resin impregnated honeycomb or polystyrene slab core bonded to both door skins with thermal adhesive. For insulated doors, use styrene core with min. 7.8 R- factor. C. Door Edge Design: Per ANSI A250.8, Section Continuously welded full height of door, with welds filled and ground smooth. Provide 18 ga. welded channel flush tops and bottoms. D. Minimum Hardware Reinforcing Gages: Per ANSI A250.8, Table 4. Where continuous gear hinges are specified for fire rated doors, provide minimum inch thick (17 gauge) hinge edge. E. Door Hardware Preparation: 1. Prepare hollow metal units to receive mortised and concealed door hardware, including cutouts, steel reinforcing, drilling, and tapping in accordance with final door hardware schedule and templates provided by hardware supplier. Comply with applicable requirements of ANSI A115 "Specifications for Door and Frame Preparation." 2. Reinforce hollow metal units to receive surface applied hardware. Hardware installer: drill and tap for surface applied hardware. 3. Locate finish hardware as shown on final shop drawings, or if not shown, in accordance with recommended hardware locations specified in "S.D.I , Recommended Specifications, Standard Steel Doors and Frames," as published by the Steel Door Institute, and in ANSI A250.8, Table 4. 4 F. Vision Lite Assemblies: Manufacturer s standard kits consisting of glass lite moldings to accommodate glass thickness and size of vision lite indicated. G. Label Requirements : Per ANSI A250.8, Section 2, Product. H. Astragals: At rated and nonrated doors with 3 point latching, lockset, or flush bolts, furnish steel Z astragal, factory prepared for hardware as scheduled, mounted to overlap on key side of doors. I. Misc. Requirements: 1. Fabricate doors reinforced, stiffened, and sound deadened. 2. Provide non-removable glazing stops on the secure side of all doors receiving glass. Provide removable glazing beads on other side. 2.6 HOLLOW METAL FRAMES A. Hollow Metal Frames: Flush cold-rolled steel, 2 faces, with double and equal rabbit profile. Provide welded type frames unless otherwise indicated. Face joints at meeting mullions or between mullions and other frame members shall be completely externally welded on the faces only, welds shall be ground and finished smooth. 1. Interior Frames: ANSI 250.8, Level 3, welded type, (16 gauge) sheet steel, mitered corners. 2. Exterior Frames: ANSI 250.8, Level 4, welded type, (16 gauge) galvanized sheet steel, mitered corners. B. Hardware Reinforcement: Fully prepare frames for mortise template hardware and reinforce frames for surface mounted hardware. Comply with Table 4 of ANSI A250.8 for minimum hardware reinforcing gages. 1. Provide minimum inch thick (9 gauge) hinge reinforcement. 2. Provide minimum inch thick (12 gauge) frame head reinforcement for closers, surface, and concealed overhead stop and holders, removable mullions, flush bolts, and top latch of vertical rod exit devices. C. Misc. Requirements: 1. Provide 2" faces with mitered corners, welded and ground smooth. 2. Furnish frames with rubber silencer bumpers, 3 on strike jambs of single swing frames, and 2 on heads of double swing frames. 3. Furnish temporary spreaders securely attached at bottom of each frame. 4. Provide 27 ga steel plaster guards or mortar boxes, welded to the frame, at back of door hardware cutouts where mortar or other materials might obstruct hardware operation. Provide continuous mortar guard of foam or cardboard for frames requiring continuous gear hinges applied with construction adhesive. D. Frames for Fixed Glass: Provide same profile as door frames, with metal stops and recessed head fasteners. Miter all corners of stops. Butted corners are not acceptable. 2.7 FRAME ANCHORAGE A. New Masonry: Provide metal anchors of shapes and sizes required for the adjoining wall construction. Provide a minimum of 3 wall anchors per jamb. Frames over 7-6 shall be provided with one additional anchor for each 24 inch or fraction thereof. METAL DOORS AND FRAMES

5 B. Metal Stud Partitions: Provide a minimum of three inch thick metallic coated "Z" shaped sheet metal jamb anchor clips welded in each jamb. For doors over 7-6 high weld one additional anchor for each 24 inches or fraction thereof. C. Head Anchors: Minimum 3 feet o.c. at door or window heads over 5 feet wide. D. Floor Clips: Provide inch thick minimum angle shaped floor clips welded to jambs and punched for two 3/8 inch diameter bolts each. For wall conditions that do not allow for the use of a floor anchor, provide an additional jamb anchor. 2.8 FIRE RATED DOORS AND FRAMES A. Provide approved and labeled hollow metal fire doors and frames at locations indicated in door schedule. Approved doors, frames, and hardware shall be constructed and installed in accordance with requirements of NFPA 80 and tested by UL (Underwriters' Laboratories, Inc.) or WH (Warnock Hersey). Test doors based on UL10C/ UBC 7-2. Positive Pressure Tested, after 5 minutes into the test, the neutral pressure level in the furnace shall be established at 40 inches or less above the sill. B. Provide approved and labeled hollow metal fire doors and frames at locations indicated in Door Schedule. Approved doors, frames, and hardware shall be constructed and installed in accordance with requirements of NFPA 80 and tested by UL (Underwriters' Laboratories, Inc.) or WH (Warnock Hersey) for the class of door opening indicated in schedules. C. Provide 3/4 inch stops for sidelights and transoms where the individual glass areas for fire rated openings exceeds the allowable area for 5/8 inch stops. D. Where continuous gear hinges are specified for labeled openings, apply the label in rabbet of the frame head and on top of the door. Labels shall be placed 12 inches from strike edge of door(s). E. Label Materials and Attachment: Steel, brass, aluminum, or non-metallic, attached by welding, riveting, pop riveting, or with drive screws. Embossed labels stamped directly into the steel will not be acceptable. Provide labels for doors, door frames, and borrowed lites. Protect labels during painting. F. Doors in Exit Enclosures: Label doorway opening protective for means of egress fire doors and with a maximum transmitted temperature end point of not more than 450 degrees F above ambient at the end of 30 minutes of standard fire test exposure. 2.9 FABRICATION REQUIREMENTS A. General: 1. Fabricate steel door and frame units to comply with ANSI A250.8, rigid, neat in appearance, free from defects, warp, or buckle. Accurately form metal to required sizes and profiles. 2. Fabricate panels and edge channels of exterior doors from galvanized sheet steel. Fabricate panels and edge channels of interior doors from cold rolled sheet steel. Fabricate concealed stiffeners, reinforcement, edge channels, and moldings from either cold rolled or hot rolled steel (at fabricator's option). 3. Glazing Stops: Manufacturer s standard, formed from minimum (21 gauge) inch thick steel sheet. Provide non-removable stops on outside of exterior doors and on secure side of interior doors for glass, louvers, and other panels in doors. Provide screw applied, removable, glazing stops on inside of glass, louvers, and other panels in doors. 4. Astragals: As required by NFPA 80 to provide fire ratings indicated. METAL DOORS AND FRAMES

6 B. Clearances: 1. Non-Fire Rated Doors: Not to exceed 1/8 inch at jambs and heads, 3/32 inch between pairs of doors, and 3/4 inch at bottom. 2. Fire Rated Doors: As required by NFPA 80. C. Hardware Preparation: Locate hardware on doors and frames in conformance to SDI and ADA requirements. Secure templates from the finish hardware supplier, and make provision for all finish hardware including all drilling and tapping. 1. Prepare hollow metal units to receive mortised and concealed door hardware, including cutouts, steel reinforcing, drilling, and tapping in accordance with final door hardware schedule and templates provided by hardware supplier. Comply with applicable requirements of ANSI A115 "Specifications for Door and Frame Preparation." 2. Reinforce hollow metal units to receive surface applied hardware. Drill and tap for surface applied hardware. 3. Locate finish hardware as shown on final shop drawings, or if not shown, in accordance with recommended hardware locations specified in ANSI A D. Tolerances: Comply with SDI 117, Manufacturing Tolerances for Standard Steel Doors and Frames. E. Labeled Doors and Frames: Where called for, furnish labeled metal doors and frames in conformance to UL 10(b), ASTM E152. Door and frames to bear U.L., Inc. inspected label FINISHES A. General: Comply with NAAMM s Metal Finishes Manual for Architectural and Metal Products for recommendations for applying and designating finishes. B. Surface Preparation: 1. Metallic Coated Steel: Clean surfaces with non-petroleum solvent so surfaces are free of oil and other contaminants. After cleaning, apply a conversion coating suited to the organic coating to be applied over it. Clean welds, mechanical connections, and abraded areas, and apply galvanizing repair paint specified below to comply with ASTM A Galvanizing Repair Paint: High zinc dust content paint, complying with SSPC Paint Steel Surfaces: Clean surfaces to comply with SSPC-SP1, Solvent Cleaning ; remove dirt, oil, grease, or other contaminants that could impair paint bond. Remove mill scale and rust, if present, from uncoated steel; comply with SSPC-SP 3, Power Tool Cleaning, or SSPC-SP 6/NACE No. 3, Commercial Blast Cleaning. C. Factory Priming for Field Painted Finish: Apply shop primer specified below immediately after surface preparation and pretreatment. Apply a smooth coat of even consistency to provide a uniform dry film thickness of not less than 0.7 mils. 1. Shop Primer: Manufacturer s standard, fast curing, lead and chromate free primer complying with ANSI A acceptance criteria, recommended by primer manufacturer for substrate, compatible with substrate and field applied finish paint system indicated; and providing a sound foundation for field applied topcoats despite prolonged exposure. 7 PART 3 EXECUTION 3.1 PREPARATION A. Remove welded-in shipping spreaders installed at factory. B. Prior to installation and with installation spreaders in place, adjust and securely brace standard steel door frames for squareness, alignment, twist, and plumb to the following tolerances: 1. Squareness: Plus or minus 1/16 inch, measured at door rabbet on a line 90 degrees from jamb perpendicular to frame head. 2. Alignment: Plus or minus 1/16 inch, measured on jambs on a horizontal line parallel to plane of wall. 3. Twist: Plus or minus 1/16 inch, measured at opposite face corners of jambs on parallel lines, and perpendicular to plane of wall. 4. Plumbness: Plus or minus 1/16 inch, measured at jambs on a perpendicular line from head to floor. C. Drill and tap doors and frames to receive non-templated mortised and surface mounted door hardware. D. Apply bituminous coating to backs of frames that are to be filled with mortar, grout, and plaster containing anti-freezing agents. 3.2 INSTALLATION A. Install frames as recommended in ANSI A and DHI A115.1G. Comply with all provisions of SDI- 105 Recommended Erection Instructions for Steel Frames. Install all doors in accordance to DHI Installation Guide for Doors and Hardware and manufacturers instructions. Install fire-rated label doors and frames per NFPA 80. B. Set frames accurately in position, plumbed, aligned, and braced securely until permanent anchors are set. After wall construction is complete, remove temporary braces and spreaders. C. Fill welded wrap-around frames in masonry construction with grout as masonry is laid-up, and with plaster in drywall construction as work progresses. Brace or fasten frame in such a way to prevent pressure of the grout from deforming frame. 1. Mix grout to provide 4-inch maximum consistency and hand trowel into place. Do not use grout mixed to a thin and pumpable consistency. 2. If additives are used in masonry or plaster work during cold weather, field coat the inside of steel frames with a bituminous compound to prevent corrosion. 3. Solidly pack mineral fiber insulation behind sound control door frames. 4. Install rubber silencers prior to grouting. 5. Exposed Fasteners: Where necessary and approved, provide countersunk flat Phillips heads for exposed screws and bolts. D. Install doors to achieve the maximum operational effectiveness and appearance of the unit. Maintain clearances specified. Shim as indicated in DHI A115.1G and SDI 122. E. Install hardware in accordance with hardware manufacturer s recommendations and templates. Comply with DHI A115.1G and ANSI A F. Fully caulk all joints between metal and surrounding materials. Neatly point joints and remove excess material. METAL DOORS AND FRAMES

8 G. Floor Anchors: Provide floor anchors for each jamb and mullion that extends to floor and secure with post-installed expansion anchors, or with powder actuated fasteners (if indicated and approved on shop drawings). H. Door Clearances: 1. Tolerances: Unless noted otherwise, clearances are subject to tolerance of plus or minus 1/32 inch. 2. Door and Frame Head and Jambs: 1/8 inch. 3. Meeting Edges of Pairs of Fire-Rated Doors: 1/8 inch plus or minus 1/16 inch. 4. Meeting Edges of Non-Rated Pairs of Doors: 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch. 5. Bottom: 5/8 inch. 6. Door Face and Door Stop: 1/16 inch to 1/8 inch. 7. Fire Rated Doors: Install doors with clearances according to NFPA 80. I. Glazing: 1. Comply with installation requirements in Section and with standard steel door and frame manufacturer s written instructions. 2. Secure stops with countersunk flat or oval head machine screws spaced uniformly not more than 9 inches o.c. but not more than 2 inches o.c. from each corner. 3.3 ADJUST AND CLEAN A. Check and readjust operating hardware items immediately before final inspection. Leave work in complete and proper operating condition. Remove and replace defective work, including standard steel doors or frames that are warped, bowed, or otherwise unacceptable. B. Immediately after erection, clean grout and other bonding material off doors and frames. C. Sand smooth rusted or damaged areas of prime coat and apply touchup of compatible air drying primer.
