Ideal under vinyl, ceramic tile, hardwood flooring, laminate flooring, and carpeting. Provides a smooth, flat surface. Resists indentation from heels and furniture. Free of resins, adhesives, and solvents. Recognized by major resilient-flooring and adhesive manufacturers. Tested by Tile Council of America (Robinson Floor Test Method) and approved for residential and light commercial use (as defined by TCA). Superior adhesive bonding and workability. Certified, recycled content of 95 percent. Description FIBEROCK Brand Underlayment AQUA-TOUGH is engineered to meet both water-, mold- and indentation-resistance needs under resilient flooring, ceramic tile, carpeting, hardwood flooring, and laminate flooring. This all-purpose underlayment manufactured from a specially engineered combination of gypsum and cellulose fibers has a uniform, water-resistant composition that helps prevent the problems typically associated with plywood, oriented strand board (OSB), and lauan underlayments. FIBEROCK Brand Underlayment provides a smooth, flat surface, with no bumps or ridges to telegraph through. It resists water damage such as the swelling and warping often seen with wood-based products, and contains none of the resins, adhesives or solvents that can stain floor covering materials. It also offers greater resistance to indentation than other underlayment products, and can be used throughout a home in both wet and dry areas regardless of the flooring material chosen. Advantages Limitations Smooth, uniform surface FIBEROCK Brand Underlayment provides an excellent substrate for various floor covering installations. Integral water resistance AQUA-TOUGH technology provides a uniform, specially engineered composition for superior water resistance, through and through. Mold Resistant In independent lab tests per ASTM D Standard Test Method for Resistance to Growth of Mold on the Surface of Interior Coatings in an Environmental Chamber, the score for FIBEROCK Brand AQUA- TOUGH Underlayment was 10 (highest score). Quality control FIBEROCK Brand Underlayment is manufactured in accordance with strict performance specifications. In-process and finished-product quality tests ensure quality and performance consistency. Dimensional stability FIBEROCK Brand Underlayment surpasses traditional plywood, oriented strand board (OSB), and lauan underlayments in retaining dimensional stability; provides reduced linear variation and edge-thickness swell. Environmentally friendly FIBEROCK Brand Underlayment offers an environmentally friendly alternative to wood-based underlayments because it is made from 95 percent recycled material. Comprehensive use FIBEROCK Brand Underlayment can be used in both wet and dry areas throughout an entire home, under vinyl, ceramic tile, carpeting, wood, or laminate flooring. Warranted performance FIBEROCK Brand Underlayment panels are warranted for 15 years against buckling, warping, delamination, cracking, and splitting upon fastening. Easy to install Simply score and snap product with minimal effort. 1. Do not use in areas subject to prolonged exposure to standing water for instance, in gang showers, saunas, or hot-tub decks. 2. Do not install FIBEROCK Brand Underlayment directly over concrete subfloors. 3. Do not install FIBEROCK Brand Underlayment over heavily cushioned, thick-foam backed, or perimeter-adhered vinyl flooring. 4. Not intended for walls or ceilings. 5. Do not install using drywall screws or drywall nails. 6. For ceramic tile applications, underlayment must be bonded using mortar or adhesive, and mechanically fastened to the subfloor. WARNING: Store all FIBEROCK panels flat. Panels are heavy and can fall over, causing serious injury or death. Do not move unless authorized.

Consult local building codes for specific crawl-space requirements. Install FIBEROCK Brand Underlayment only over approved wood subfloor that has been installed per manufacturer s installation instructions. B. Subfloor Clean subfloor and leave free of dust, dirt, and debris. Ensure subfloor is completely dry. Verify that fasteners are flush with, or slightly below, the subfloor surface. Ensure that the subfloor and structure are within the tolerances specified by the floor-covering manufacturer s guidelines. Inspect subfloor for an even, flat surface before installing underlayment. Uneven end edge joints and variations in panel thickness may telegraph through the underlayment. Sand uneven joints, if necessary. Ensure subfloor is flat between framing elements. If subfloor panels appear to buckle, correct the problem by adding blocking or cleats under the floor. Fasten cleats to the subfloor to flatten the panels. Repair existing voids, large gaps, and penetrations through the subfloor using a manufacturer-approved floorleveler prior to installing FIBEROCK Brand Underlayment. 4
5 C. Cutting and laying out panels Maintain temperature and humidity of space prior to, during, and after installation. Conditions should approximate those of normal occupancy. Install underlayment, fastener marks up. Cut underlayment from one side using the score-and-snap method. For more difficult cuts, combine the score-and-snap method with use of a handsaw or low-rpm power saw. Cut out holes for plumbing using a holesaw, keyhole saw, or variable-speed jigsaw. Lay cut edges against the wall; only factory edges should be joined. Begin laying panels at one corner. Maintain a 1/8 space between the underlayment panels and the perimeter walls. Stagger joints of underlayment panels a minimum of 16 o.c. so that four panel corners never meet, and offset end and edge joints of panels a minimum of 8 from the subfloor panel joints. Butt underlayment panel edges and ends lightly together. A maximum 1/32 gap is allowed. D. Prior to installation of the final floor covering, avoid heavy traffic and moving heavy items across the underlayment panels. If necessary, items such as refrigerators or other appliances with free rolling wheels (or on wheeled dollies) may be rolled over the floor if care is taken to avoid wheel contact on the finished underlayment surface. Using hard wood strips or scrap underlayment strips to bear the wheel traffic is recommended. 3.2 A. Fastening FIBEROCK Brand Underlayment Lay panels flat and hold in tight contact with the subfloor while Resilient Floor fastening. When using pneumatic tools, apply pressure on gun to hold panels tightly to subfloor before shooting Application in the fastener. Do not hold trigger and bounce the tool. Care should be taken to properly set pneumatic tool pressure in order to drive fasteners flush or slightly below the surface of the underlayment. Do not countersink fastener heads more than 1/16 below the surface of the underlayment. Fasten panels to subfloor with 1/4 crown or larger chisel-point staples, corrosive-resistant wood screws, or galvanized roofing or ring shank underlayment nails spaced 1/2 from panel edges and 2 o.c. around the perimeter, and 4 o.c. in the field of the panel. Resin-, rosin-, and cement-coated fasteners, drywall screws, and drywall nails are not recommended for fastening FIBEROCK Brand Underlayment. Fastener length should be approximately equal to the combined thickness of the underlayment and subfloor. Do not allow fasteners to penetrate through subfloor. To prevent fastener heads from telegraphing through resilient floor covering, ensure that the subfloor is dry. Fasten one panel at a time. Begin at one end and fan out across the panel. B. Installing FIBEROCK Brand Underlayment over existing vinyl floor coverings Install FIBEROCK Brand Underlayment over existing flooring only if the flooring is not a heavily cushioned, thick-foam backed vinyl or perimeter fastened vinyl. Prior to installing the underlayment panels, ensure existing floor is level and meets appropriate design requirements. Repair damaged areas of floor coverings (that is, missing or broken tiles, curling floor covering at seams, severe gouges, protrusions of floor-covering surfaces, etc.). Use a high-quality floor-leveler to fill the damaged areas. Ensure that existing flooring is fully adhered and well bonded. Follow floor-covering manufacturer s recommendations for installations over existing floors. C. Finishing FIBEROCK Brand Underlayment joints Lightly sand uneven panel joints until they are smooth and even. Fill all panel end and edge joints, depressions, damaged spots, and sanded areas with a patching compound. Use a high-quality patching compound approved by the resilient flooring manufacturer and specifically designed for flooring applications. Follow patching compound manufacturer s application instructions. Scrape or sand the patched areas so that they are smooth and even. Remove dust, dirt, and debris from the underlayment surface prior to applying floor-covering adhesive. D. Floor-covering application Refer to floor-covering manufacturer s recommendations for proper application procedures. For proper trowel selection, refer to adhesive manufacturer s recommendation for porous substrates. Follow floor-covering and/or adhesive manufacturer s guidelines to allow adequate curing or setting time prior to allowing traffic on the finished floor. Follow floor-covering manufacturer s recommendations for preventive maintenance, cautions, and procedures. E. Perimeter-Bonded, Felt-Backed Resilient Floor Covering Joint patching is not required when installing this type of floor covering in new construction. When laying out underlayment panels, lightly butt ends together and sand all joints until they are smooth. Remove dust, dirt, and debris from the underlayment surface prior to application of floor covering. 5
6 3.3 A.
