BOX 559 WELLS, MAINE OWENS CORNING 2790 COLUMBUS ROAD GRANVILLE, OHIO ATTIC BREEZE, LLC POST OFFICE BOX 1318 GATESVILLE, TEXAS EVALUATION SUBJECT: ODL EZ TUBULAR SKYLIGHTS 1.0 EVALUATION SCOPE Compliance with the following codes: 2009 International Building Code (IBC) 2009 International Residential Code (IRC) 2009 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) Properties evaluated: Structural Air infiltration Water penetration resistance Durability 2.0 USES The ODL EZ tubular skylights described in this report are prefabricated plastic-domed glazed skylights for use under IBC Sections 2405 and 2610 and IRC Section R DESCRIPTION 3.1 General: The ODL EZ tubular skylights are plastic-domed glazed tubular skylights available in nominal diameters of 10 and 14 inches (254 and 356 mm). Each skylight consists of the following components packaged in a single carton for jobsite assembly: a clear plastic dome; a self-flashing curb; adjustable and extension reflective tubes; a ceiling package including trim ring, inner and diffuser lenses, diffuser ring, miscellaneous fasteners and washers; foam tapes; kerf mounted seals, and hole cutting templates. The EZ10ECL also has a dimmer unit packaged with the other components. The dome shape is a hemisphere for 10-inch (254-mm) dome lenses and is a truncated hemisphere with a flat top for 14-inch (356-mm) dome lenses. Table 1 lists the skylight models, flashing and dome materials, dome diameters, dome rises, and reflective tube descriptions. Figure 1 shows a typical version of the ODL EZ skylight assembly. See Table 3 for a correlation of product names between the report holder and the additional listees. 3.2 Material: Plastic Dome: The plastic dome is produced from either injection-molded acrylic plastic from Altuglas International of Arkema, Inc., designated as Plexiglas MI-7, or injection-molded polycarbonate plastic from General Electric, designated as Lexan 143 BR5A001. The nominal thickness of the 10-inch-diameter (245 mm) dome lens is inch (2.89 mm) and is inch (2.92 mm) for 14-inch-diameter (356 mm) dome lens. The acrylic plastic has a CC2 classification and polycarbonate plastic has a CC1 classification Self-Flashing Curb: The self-flashing curb is made from one of three types of materials: inch-thick (3.2 mm) Polytrope TPP 518, inch-thick (1.60 mm) spun, or formable available as to inch-thick (0.58 to 0.81 mm) or to inch-thick (0.72 to 0.95 mm) Adjustable and Extension Reflective Tubes: The diameter of the reflective tube is 10 inches (254 mm) for EZ10 and 14 inches (356 mm) for EZ1. The interior finish of the tubes has a Class A flame-spread index (0-25) and a smoke-developed index not exceeding 450 when tested in accordance with ASTM E Light Diffuser: The light diffuser consists of a tempered glass diffuser lens and two-glass inner lenses. The thickness of all glass diffuser lenses is inch (3.20 mm) Fire-Resistant Ring: The fire-resistant ring is an band used as protection for the glazing exposed edge (See Figure 2). The rings must be installed only where classified roof coverings are required by the applicable code Dimmer Unit: The dimmer unit of the EZ10ECL model connects the 10-inch (254 mm) reflective tube to the light diffuser Fasteners: Self-Flashing Curb Mounting: The fasteners supplied with the skylights and used to attach the self-flashing curb of the skylight to the roof sheathing are No. 8 by 2-inch-long (51 mm), 18-8 stainless steel sheet-metal screws with inch-thick-by- 3 / 4 -inchdiameter (1.14 mm by 19.1 mm) fender washers Dome: The fasteners supplied with the skylights and used to attach the dome to the self-flashing curb are No. 8 by 3 / 4 -inch-long (19.1 mm) Phillips pan head 18-8 stainless steel screws with No. 8 by 3 / 8 -inch-outsidediameter (9.53 mm) stainless steel washers Ceiling Ring: The fasteners supplied with the skylights and used to attach the ceiling ring to the ceiling are No. 6 by 1-inch-long (25.4 mm) wallboard screws Roof Sheathing: The roof sheathing must be minimum 1 / 2 -inch-thick (12.7 mm) plywood or oriented strand board (OSB) panel sheathing complying with the applicable code. 4.0 DESIGN AND INSTALLATION 4.1 Design: The allowable loads expressed as the performance grade rating values, PG, of the skylights are noted in Table Allowable Loads: IBC: For use under the IBC, the PG rating values must be equal to, or greater than, the maximum loads on the skylights as required by IBC Section IRC: The PG rating values must be equal to, or greater than, the maximum loads on the skylights determined in accordance with IBC Section , except the design wind forces must be as specified for skylights in IRC Section R Air Infiltration: The air leakage for the skylights when tested at an air pressure differential of 1.57 psf (75 Pa), complies with the maximum rate of 0.3 cfm/ft² (1.5 L/s/m²) required in IECC Section Installation: The skylights must be installed in accordance with IBC Sections 2405 and 2610, or IRC Section R308.6, as applicable; this report; and the manufacturer s published installation instructions. In the event of a conflict between this report and the manufacturer s published installation instructions, this report governs. The skylights are prepackaged with all components, fasteners, attachments, and installation instructions in the shipping carton, except for the sealant recommended by the skylight manufacturer to be installed between the skylight and roof sheathing. For the EZ10, a 12-inchdiameter (305 mm) hole must be cut in the roof sheathing and an 11-inch-diameter (279 mm) hole must be cut in the ceiling below the attic space. For the EZ14, the corresponding ceiling and sheathing hole diameters are 16 inches and 15 inches (406 mm and 381 mm), respectively. The skylight self-flashing curb must be treated with the sealant recommended by the skylight manufacturer applied around the bottom surface of the flashing and then must be attached to the plywood or OSB roof sheathing with the fasteners described in Section The number of fasteners required is given in Table 2. The skylight dome lens must be attached to the selfflashing curb with four of the fasteners described in Section Silicone sealant must be applied to the screw heads after placement. The reflective tubes must be inserted into the skylight self-flashing curb at the roof and must be terminated at the ceiling into a ceiling ring installed with three or four No. 6 by 1-inch-long (25-mm) drywall screws. The skylight diffuser must then be twisted onto the ceiling ring. For installation of the dimmer unit of the EZ10ECL model, the lower end of the 10-inch (254 mm) reflective tube is put into the top surface of the dimmer unit and the two are snapped together. The light diffuser must then be twisted onto the lower surface of the dimmer unit. The fire-resistant ring slides on the dome lens and conceals the lower 1 / 2 -inch (12.7 mm) of the dome lens. It protrudes 1 / 2 -inch (12.7 mm) beyond the bottom edge of the dome. The ring is supported by a horizontal flange of the dome and is held down by the heads of four screws that retain the dome lens to the flashing. 5.0 CONDITIONS OF USE The ODL EZ tubular skylights described in this report comply with, or are suitable alternatives to what is specified in, those codes listed in Section 1.0 of this report, subject to the following conditions: 5.1 The skylights must be installed in accordance with the applicable code, this report, and the manufacturer s published installation instructions. In the event of a conflict between this report and the report holder s or additional listee s published installation instructions, this report governs. 5.2 All of the skylights, except for the skylights with the fire-resistant ring installed and with the spun self-flashing curbs, are limited to installations where nonclassified roof coverings are permitted and to use on wood roof construction. 5.3 The skylights equipped with self-flashing curbs of Polytrope or formable are limited to installation in R-3 occupancies and roof slopes of 3:12 (25%) to 12:12 (100%). Skylights equipped with the spun self-flashing curbs are limited to roof slopes of 0:12 (0%) to 12:12 (100%). 5.4 The connection of the dimmer unit of the EZ10ECL model to the reflective tubes and light diffuser and the dimmer unit components are outside the scope of this report. 5.5 The skylights are manufactured at ODL facilities in Zeeland, Michigan, and Sparks, Nevada, under a quality control program with inspections by Smith-Emery Laboratories (AA-554). 6.0 EVIDENCE SUBMITTED Data in accordance with the ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria for Plastic Glazed Skylights (AC16), dated April 2011.

3 ESR-1835 Most Widely Accepted and Trusted Page 3 of IDENTIFICATION The skylights must be labeled with the manufacturer s name (ODL, Inc., Wasco Products, Inc., Owens Corning, or Attic Breeze, LLC) and address, model number, performance grade ratings, the ICC-ES evaluation report number (ESR-1835), the name or logo of the inspection agency (Smith-Emery Laboratories), and a safety label complying with Class I, ANSI Z (warning of a risk of falling). The labels also include the CC1 or CC2 plastic classification and the thickness of the plastic glazing. Applicable code editions: 2010 Florida Building Code Building 2010 Florida Building Code Residential 2.0 CONCLUSIONS The ODL EZ Tubular Skylights, described in Sections 2.0 through 7.0 of the master evaluation report ESR-1835, comply with the 2010 Florida Building Code Building and the 2010 Florida Building Code Residential, provided the design and installation are in accordance with the International Building Code (IBC) provisions noted in the master report and the following conditions apply: 1. The skylights have not been evaluated for impact resistance as required for locations noted in Sections , and of the 2010 Florida Building Code Building. 2. The skylights must be labeled as required by Section of the 2010 Florida Building Code Building and Section R of the 2010 Florida Building Code Residential. 3. Design wind loads must be determined in accordance with Section 1609 of the 2010 Florida Building Code Building. Use of the ODL EZ Tubular Skylights for compliance with the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone provisions of the 2010 Florida Building Code Building and the 2010 Florida Building Code Residential has not been evaluated, and is outside the scope of this evaluation report. For products falling under Florida Rule 9N-3, verification that the report holder s quality assurance program is audited by a quality assurance entity approved by the Florida Building Commission for the type of inspections being conducted is the responsibility of an approved validation entity (or the code official when the report holder does not possess an approval by the Commission).
