6 Objectives and Expectations ² Motivations ² Brazil has alarming levels of waste generation, being one of the 5th biggest solid waste generator in the world (MDIFT, 2017) ² It is an environmental, social and economic issue ² It is also an environmental, social and economic opportunity

8 Objectives and Expectations ² The National Policy on Solid Waste (Law 12305/2010) ² Focus on Solid Waste and special attention to: ² ² ² ² ² ² WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Pesticides Batteries Tires Lubricating oils, their waste and packaging Fluorescent bulbs, sodium and mercury vapor bulbs, and mixed-light bulbs

9 Objectives and Expectations ² The National Policy on Solid Waste (Law 12305/2010) ² Shared responsibility including manufacturers, importers, distributors and traders, consumers and holders of public offices (in a life cycle perspective) ² Reconcile interests between the economic and social agents ² 3R policy ² Provide that productive activities achieve efficiency and sustainability ² Incentivize good practices of social and environmental responsibility
