With significant experience in developing creative solutions for complex problems, he has led many design and communication-related projects, managing diverse project teams including business analysts, graphic designers, web application developers, cartographic specialists, and resource analysts. He received his degree in Design from the University of Alberta, his Certified Graphic Designer (CGD) certification from the Society of Graphic Designers, and his Graduate Certificate in Professional Communications from Royal Roads University. Now s the Time: Applying Innovation to the Challenges Facing the Forestry There has never been a more opportune time to apply innovative approaches to improve business performance. Investing in strategic and tactical approaches to deal with issues such as caribou, ILM, spatial data management, consultation, etc. will reap significant benefits in the future. Zachary Cole, BScF, RPF Zachary Cole is a Forest Resource and Business Analyst at Silvacom. Moving from New Brunswick, he completed his Bachelor of Forestry from the University of New Brunswick and is a registered professional forester in Alberta. Zachary has experience with Indigenous Consultation, Land-use Planning and Business Analysis. He is currently drawing on this training and experience to lead the implementation of Silvacom s online Forest Management System, which is helping forest companies in Alberta and Saskatchewan manage their data effectively. Zack is passionate about using big data to improve forestry and land use

Indigenous Consultation Update Effective consultation is critical to the success of any major project. A key initiative of the Government of Alberta is to work with Indigenous, municipal and industry groups to create a new consultation framework that address all needs. The Government of Alberta will provide an overview of the process undertaken over the last year, the outcomes, the status and next steps. Understanding Woodland Water Crossings Understanding Woodland Water Crossings can be a complex undertaking. We have engaged experts who will help demystify this topic by sharing with you best practices from water course crossing compliance through to permitting and construction. They will do this by walking through the process using a case study of water course crossing reconstruction Matt has spent the last 13 years as a Project Manager with Ruskin Construction. During that time, he has managed the assessment, permitting and construction of multiple stream crossings for government, mining, oil and gas and forestry clients. Rene Villiger Allnorth is a multidisciplinary engineering and technical services consulting company, servicing clients in the Mining, Oil & Gas, Infrastructure and Pulp & Paper sectors. Your Competence Chairs will share ideas and obtain your input toward creation of a new modified Continuing Competence program to meet the needs of all members. The Role of a Forest Professional in the Oil and Gas Sector 7 Generations Tentative -subject to availability 2:00 2:15 Networking Break 2:15 3:00 pm Government of Alberta -Confirmed 3:00 4:00 pm Confirmed Dr. Ryan Prosser Dr. Prosser completed his doctorate in environmental toxicology at the University of Guelph under the supervision of Drs. Paul Sibley and Keith Solomon. The focus of his doctoral research was on the potential risk of pharmaceuticals and personal care products to plant and human health due to the land application of municipal biosolids. During his doctorate, Dr. Prosser was also involved in several projects investigating the effect of pesticide on aquatic systems. For example, investigating the effect of the glyphosate formulations used in control of cocoa plantations in Colombia on aquatic ecosystems and the effect of atrazine used in the Midwestern United States on aquatic primary producers. Following his doctorate, Dr. Prosser was a Caribou Recovery Plan Update In December, the Government of Alberta released Alberta s Approach to Achieve Caribou Recovery. The Government has also hosted several consultation sessions that included industry, indigenous and municipal groups as well as the public. The Government of Alberta will provide an overview of the process undertaken, the outcomes, the status and next steps. Fate, effects, and risk of herbicides used in the Canadian forestry industry In Canada, glyphosate comprises greater than 95% of the herbicide used in the forestry industry according to the National Forestry Database Program. Dr. Prosser will present information on the persistence and movement of glyphosate in ecosystems, along with its potential effects on flora and fauna in these ecosystems. Dr. Prosser will also present information on the risk of glyphosate to human health and the decision by the World Health Organization s International Agency for Research on Cancer to classify glyphosate as a probable human carcinogen (Group 2A) in (Edmonton only)
4 post-doctoral research fellow in the Aquatic Contaminants Research Division of Environment and Climate Change Canada. He led a team that investigated the effect of high production volume chemicals used in Canada, for which there was little data, on aquatic biota. Dr. Prosser also lead several research projects investigating the effect of chemical stressors on threatened and endangered freshwater mussel species present in Canada. Currently, Dr. Prosser is a faculty member in the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of Guelph. His research team have a number of projects investigating the potential effects and risks of various industrial chemicals and pesticides on aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. 4:00 pm Close
