1 A General Overview of Fire Data, Post Fire Management and Research in Galilee s and Mt. Carmel s Maquis, Israel. Didi Kaplan, Nature &Parks Authority. Background: Most of the forested land in Israel is owned by the government and managed by the Jewish National Fund - KKL (Israel Forest Service; hereinafter JNF); 140,000 ha, c. 100,000 of which are planted forests and c. 40,000 are maquis; Israel Nature and Parks Authority (hereinafter NPA); 721,000 ha, c. 56,000 of which are forests and maquis. Ministry of Agriculture, Pastoral Department (hereinafter AGOV); c. 400,000 ha, only c. 80,000 of which are maquis and c. 120,000 are forests, most of which are included in the JNF or NPA managed areas.
