ElectroPure Technology Water Treatment System

Ground Effects Environmental Services Inc. Ground Effects E-Tech Specializes in innovative electrokinetics for the treatment of water, soil and spent oil based mud.

ElectroPure (EPT) Technology Advanced Waste Water Treatment Technology Chemical Free Remove TSS and bacteria, reducing plugging and fouling. Remove Metals, gels, barium, hydrocarbons and H 2 S Turnkey, onsite treatment. Patent Pending

ElectroPure (EPT) Technology The Royal Treatment

ElectroPure (EPT) Technology

Process Overview Oil water separator Electro coagulation Electro catalytic oxidation Electro floatation/clarification Filtration

EPT - Trailer

Oil / Water Separation Oil removal capacity of less than 5ppm using diffused air floatation and coalescing media

2 Stage Electrolytic Reactor Electrolytic cells are the heart of the ElectoPure system.

Electrocoagulation EC destabilizes these charges allowing for coagulation to occur Seeding Emulsion Breaking Oxidation Reduction reactions

Electro Chemistry Induced Chemical Reactions Iron Anode: Fe Fe e- Cathode: 2H 2 O + 2e- H 2 + 2OH - Overall: Fe + 2H 2 O Fe 2+ H 2 + 2OH - Aluminum Anode: 2Al (s) 2Al 3+ (aq) + 6e- Cathode: H 2 O + 6e- 3H 2 + 6OH - Overall: 2Al + 6H 2 O 2Al H 2 + 6OH - Electrolysis Of Water Anode: 2H 2 O(l) O 2 (g) + 4H + (aq) + 4e Cathode: 2H 2 O (l) + 2e-(g) H 2 (g) +2OH - (aq)

Electro catalytic Oxidation Electrocatalyst (MMO)Mixed Metal Oxide electrodes. Iridium coated Titanium The electrolytic process hydroxyl free radicals, sodium hypochlorite, ozone and other halogens creating oxidationreduction reactions within the liquid.

Electro-Flotation/ Clarification Electro-flotation - electric charge passing between the reactor plates, generates an enormous volume of extremely fine gas bubbles with a bubble size in the range 25um 30um. The volume of gas bubbles is understood to be in the millions per liter of liquid. Clarification- Gravity separation of heavy solids is achieved via a slant plate clarification system

EPT Floatation/clarification

EPT Tertiary Treatment O3 Injection of ozone into water under pressure Sediment Filtration Multi-pots Final Filtration Multi Media Contactors

EPT - Control System Monitor, optimize and operate the ElectroPure system from anywhere in the world, anytime and in real time

Particle Plugging Theory Hexagonal Packing of Frac Sand Grains D D = diameter of frac sand d = diameter of pore throat d d = (0.1547)D

Particle Plugging Theory Rule of Thumb: Particles with diameters of 1/3 rd to 1/7 th of the pore throat diameters will bridge and plug the pores

Frac Sand Size (Mesh) Particle Plugging Theory Pore Size (Microns) Critical Plugging Range (Microns)

Particle Plugging Theory m 3 OF FLUID (mgl) MILLIGRAMS PER LITRE SOLIDS Kilograms of Solids

Case Study 1 Slick Frac Flowback Water Reuse for Foam Frac in the Montney, NW Alberta An oil and gas producer wants to reuse its slick frac flowback water in subsequent fracs. The goal of using ElectroPure was to treat to criteria for reuse in the next frac, which is a foam frac, typically requiring high quality water.

Case Study 1 Results Parameter Unit Initial Post % Removal Total Suspended Solids mg/l Iron (Fe) mg/l Barium (B) mg/l Hydrocarbons mg/l

Influen Results t Case Study Slick Frac Flowback Water Reuse for Foam Frac in the Montney, NW Alberta EC Ozone Separation /Clarificati on 5 micron filtration Multi Media filtration

Case Study 1 Particle Influent Effluent Size (micron) TSS (mg/l) TSS (mg/l) < TOTAL TOTAL < (97.5%) x 14,000,000 litres treated = 14,428 kg of solids removed that will attribute to plug flow *40/70 frac sand used Critical plugging range 5 22 micron

Case Study 1 Conclusion ElectroPure technology was successful in treating the slick frac flowback water to well below criteria for all required parameters for reuse in the subsequent foam frac. These included TSS, metals and hydrocarbons. The ElectroPure system treated 14,000,000 litres of water on this project and removed a total of 14,400 kg of sludge.

Case Study 2 Gel Frac Flowback Water Reuse Near Edson, Alberta The goal of using ElectroPure was to treat to criteria for reuse in the next frac, which is a gel frac, typically requiring fresh water.

ElectroPure Technology mg/l TSS Iron

Case Study 2 Conclusion ElectroPure technology was successful in treating the Gel frac flowback water to reuse standards at 0% dilution. The Frac company was able to regel.

Case Study 3 Produced Water with H2S Near Grand Prairie, Alberta The goal of using ElectroPure was to treat to Produced Water with H2S to use for fraccing, which is a gel frac, typically requiring fresh water. 80,000 ppm H2S produced water

H 2 S

Case Study 3 Conclusion ElectroPure technology was successful in treating the Produced water to reuse standards from 80,000 ppm H2S to 0 ppm.
