4 Beat Plastic Pollution World Environment Day (WED) celebrated on the 5th of June every year, and is the United Nation's principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of our environment. The day also enables one to be more responsible in the way they conduct themselves and treat the environment. India is the global host nation for the 43rd edition of this event. It started in 1974 and since then the day has provided a global platform for like-minded people to reach out to each other. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the global celebrations of World Environment Day 2018 on. The theme Beat Plastic Pollution is a call to action to reduce the heavy burden of plastic pollution on natural places and wildlife. 'Beat Plastic Pollution' urges governments, industry, communities, and individuals to reduce the production and excessive use of single-use plastic polluting the oceans, damaging marine life and threatening human health

5 LNG from Russia India received its cheapest LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) as Russian company Gazprom began shipping natural gas under a long-term deal. As per the sources, Gazprom is providing LNG at around USD 7 per mmbtu (British Thermal Unit). This price is around 1.5 USD cheaper from the LNG imported from Qatar, which is India s oldest and largest supplier of LNG. Russian supplies are also cheaper by USD 1 to USD 1.5 per mmbtu than the LNG sourced from Australia s Gorgon LNG and the United States. India will import LNG worth an estimated USD 25 billion during the contract period from Russia. Gazprom-GAIL India Deal: State-owned GAIL India Ltd had signed the original deal with Gazprom Marketing and Trading Singapore Pte Ltd (GMTS) on August 29, Gazprom is a global energy company focused on geological exploration, production, transportation, storage, processing and sales of gas, sale of gas as a vehicle fuel, as well as generation of heat.

6 Financial Literacy Week to begin on June 4 The Reserve Bank of India has chosen customer protection as the theme for the Financial Literacy Week beginning on June 4. The event will focus on creating awareness among customers of banks about financial products and services, good financial practices and going digital. The week will focus on four consumer protection messages like 'know your liability' for unauthorised electronic banking transaction and good practices for a safe digital banking experience. RBI has also signed a pact with 10 banks to provide financial education. The target groups of this initiative will be farmers, industrialists, school students, senior citizens and self- help groups.
