Improved energy efficiency and the use of less carbon-intensive fuels and carbon-neutral biomass enabled the industry to significantly reduce its greenhouse gas emissions, reaching this goal ahead of schedule Exceed 7 percent rate of paper recovery for recycling In 216, the paper recovery rate for paper consumed in the U.S. reached a record 67.2 percent. In 217, members committed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from their facilities even further aiming for a 2 percent reduction by Member purchased energy use per ton of production was 8.1 percent lower in compared to the baseline year.
