4 1 General 1.1 Introduction These installation, assembly and maintenance instructions were published to ensure the safety of the product, in a construction environment. They have been drawn up according to the current state of science and technology and serve only as a general guideline. This guideline may be amended regularly based on new insights and regulatory requirements. The current version can be viewed on These instructions have been drawn up with the utmost care. The installer remains responsible for the correct installation of our materials, based on his or her skills. Holetherm shall never accept liability for possible damages resulting from plainly following these instructions in practice. If you have any doubts about the implementation and application, contact one of our experts first. 2 Quality standards 2.1 Declaration of Performance From 1 July 2013, manufacturers, importers and distributors of construction products must provide a Declaration of Performance (DoP) for products to which a harmonised European standard applies. Holetherm SW has classified the DoP statement for its products, per product group. The appropriate DoP number is listed on the product labels and delivery documents. 2.2 Certification The EC Declaration of Conformity, stating that the product, Holetherm SW, meets the CE requirements, as set out in the European Standards EN :2009 for system Characteristics channel load and resistances Kanaalsysteem (Channel system) Holetherm EW T450-N1-D-V2-L50050-G. 6 3 Instructions 3.1 Laws and regulations The Holetherm SW flue system conveying flue gas must be installed according to the applicable laws and regulations, and meet the current construction regulations. The installation of the Holetherm SW flue system conveying flue gas must meet the fire safety provisions set out in NEN Application The Holetherm SW can be used inside a building in a shaft, as a lining into an existing or newly constructed architectural chimney flue and as connection pipe between a fireplace or stove to an existing chimney flue. The channel duct is suitable for standardised gaseous and solid fuels with a maximum flue gas temperature of 450 C. The flue gas outlet is called a pressurised system; this means that the pressure in the channel, under normal operating conditions, is lower than the air pressure of the environment. Holetherm SW is applied to a combustion unit with an open combustion system. The flue gas outlet consists of a single wall channel system. 3.3 Characteristics of the material Holetherm SW Stainless Steel flue gas channel: (316L) has a wall thickness of 0.5 mm. Holetherm EW is a comprehensive concept. The product is not interchangeable with or connectable to products from other manufacturers. If you make changes and/or adjustments to the Holetherm SW concept, this may adversely affect the proper functioning thereof. Any guarantee and liability expires when such adjustments are made. For an overview of the components, refer to the product catalogue on our website 4 Fire safety and channel installation 4.1 Fire safety According to the building regulations, measures need to be taken to prevent fire penetration inside of buildings and with conduits in a wall or floor, and in places where the fire resistance of the structure is adversely affected. Applicable standards can be found in the Building regulations, and the provision for fire safety can be found in NEN6062. The NEN6068 standards define the resistance against fire penetration and transfer between spaces mutually. Depending on the situation on site, this may vary between 30 or 60 minutes. 6

The application of the flue gas outlet in existing partitions and casings, should also meet the fire safety requirements in NEN6062. Rain cap 4.2 Channel installation The flue gas outlet must be built from the connection to the combustion unit to the outlet on the roof. The channel must be installed as vertically as possible. Holetherm SW channels or channel sections may only be installed to a maximum length of 2 m¹ horizontal. The maximum angle for an elbow in the vertical channel is 135. The various sections are inserted into each other as a socket connection. Slide the channel with the plug connection in the socket, from the section beneath it. This is necessary because the Holetherm SW is an inward draining system. A reverse installation could potentially lead to leakage problems, possibly resulting in penetrating rainwater or condensation forming within the channel. Therefore, during installation, take note of the arrow printed on every section; this indicates the direction to the gas flue outlet. Channel elements Use a connecting piece for connection to a stove or fireplace. If your stove or fireplace has a rear connection, two elbows of 45 may be installed after the connection piece instead of a T-piece, to prevent horizontal channel sections. Elbows should be mounted stress free. 4.3 Lining existing channel If the single-walled Holetherm system is used as a liner in an existing chimney, the channel system should be introduced to the existing chimney from above. The channel sections are mutually secured with a stainless steel clamping strip. With this method, the lower end of the channel should be supported with a seat structure in order to ensure the stability of the channel. If you pass through a wall opening in stone-like material, you should consider a 20 mm distance around the channel on the back of your stove or fireplace. Never fix the channel in concrete or cement, since there will be no relief for the thermal effect. Secure the first vertical channel section after the connecting piece, with a wall bracket. After this a wall bracket must be applied after every 1.5 metres. 4.5 Roof installation We recommend using an extractor enhancing hood as an end cap on an atmospheric flue gas outlet. This reduces the risk of over pressure in the channel as a result of a downward wind. 4.6 Conduits Ensure that the passage openings in a non-combustible (stone-like) floor remain free for at least 2 mm around the installed Holetherm SW channel. With a combustible floor, the opening around should be at least 50 mm. Always finish such openings with fire-resistant material. The fire-resistant materials should always be applied in accordance with the instructions of the manufacturer and the Building Regulations. 8

With a roof slope of less than 23, the outlet should be 0.5 metre above the roof. 5.2 Calculation of the outlet height Calculate the outlet height if the flue gas outlet does not pass through the roof surface, measured 0.8 m from the ridge of the roof.

The dilution factor is calculated from the distance between the outlet of a ventilation or flue gas outlet, and the inlet of the ventilation supply provisions.

The dilution factor is calculated from the distance between the outlet of a ventilation or flue gas outlet, and the inlet of the ventilation supply provisions. 11 A dilution factor of 0.01, for example, means that no more than 0.1% contaminated indoor air or smoke ends up in the fresh air. To calculate the dilution factor, the following information has to be available: The required air volume flow qv for the outlet of the indoor air or the load B for the outlet of smoke from a combustion device. The shortest distance L between the outlet of the ventilation/flue gas outlet and the inlet opening(s) for ventilation air. The mutual difference in height Δh of the outlet and the supply opening. The required air volume flow rate qv for the outlet of the indoor air is 42 l/s. Step 2 The shortest distance L between the ventilation outlet and supply system is 1 m horizontal to the roof edge. The calculation method for the dilution factor is not intended to counteract odour pollution, but only to prevent situations that may be harmful for the health. There are no public requirements for the distance between a ventilation air supply and a sewer vent. 13 7 Channel maintenance 7.1 Channel cleaning Ensure that the maintenance to your chimney flue is synchronised with the maintenance of your combustion device. The channel should be cleaned by the installer or an accredited chimney sweeper. If you experienced a chimney fire, your channel should always be assessed on reusability of the channel components, by a competent authority. 13
