Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology IGB was founded in 1953, since 1962 within the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft Located in Stuttgart since 1969, 1976 called Fraunhofer IGB 322 employees with 19.5 million operational budget for 2014 Business areas: Medicine, pharmacy, chemistry, environment and energy Fraunhofer s role in ECOWAMA project: Fraunhofer IGB coordinates the project and is responsible for the project management activities Fraunhofer IGB is responsible for the RTD work package Electrooxidation Fraunhofer is involved in work package Wastewater characterisation, Electrocoagulation Electrowinning and System integration, LCA and D&E activities 16
8 LEITAT TECHNOLOGICAL CENTER LEITAT is the trademark of Acondicionamiento Tarrasense, a Spanish non-profit private Research Center constituted in 1906 comprising of around 245 employees carrying out applied Research. MISSION: create and transfer economic, social and sustainable value to businesses and organizations, through research and technology processes. LEITAT develops R&D activities in the areas of materials sciences, environment, surface treatments, biotechnologies & renewable energies. Leitat s role in ECOWAMA project: New electrocoagulation process for wastewater treatment and simultaneous hydrogen recovery is investigated, developed, set up and tested. Leadership in Life cycle assessment & Environmental Technology Verification WP. LEITAT provides technical support and reviews collected data during trial phase. And, as with all partners, it will play active role in exploitation and dissemination activities. 17

16 TMW French Company specialized in water and heat technologies 18 employees Inspired by the natural cycle of water, TMW, has developed an innovative and robust evapoconcentration process (MHD) fully made of plastic and working under atmospheric pressure. TMW s role in ECOWAMA project: By evaporating the wastewater, the MHD process will produce pure water reusable in the production process as well as concentrated wastewater for an efficient electrowinning of dissolved metals. 25
