3 Recycling Rates CIWMB Diversion Rate (AB 939 ~ 50% Diversion Compliance): % Board Approved % Preliminary (includes a maximum 10% credit for biomass diversion) TBD * CIWMB diversion rates are based on a year 2000 waste generation study and have been calculated using a state approved adjustment method formula that considers population, employment, taxable sales and CPI. SB 1020 (Padilla) Will potentially increase the required statewide diversion rate to 75%. May also require a new base year generation study.

16 Business Assistance Program The Town provides the following free assistance to businesses upon request: Waste assessments Provide free containers and/or blue bags as funds permit Assist the business with establishing new services with Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal i.e. paper collection, requesting a cardboard only dumpster. Educational Materials and Signage

17 Waste Reduction & Sustainability Awards

18 Universal & Electronic Waste The CA Universal Waste Ban prohibited landfill disposal of household batteries, fluorescent lambs & bulbs, electronics, empty aerosol cans and any items containing mercury. In response: Materials are collected for FREE at the Eastern Regional Landfill. 6 battery collection locations throughout Truckee; 6.4 tons of batteries collected Community Drop-off event at Town Hall; 14 tons of materials collected.

19 Household Hazardous Waste & Used Oil Recycling HHW collected via 10 drop-off days Spring Fall 2006: tons of HHW collected. Free appointments. Used Oil & Filter Recycling 5 certified centers. Free Oil & Filter Recycling. Free Collection Containers.

20 Fire Prevention and Green Waste Recycling FREE Collection Events TTSD Fire Safety Day ~ 2006: tons; 2007: tons Fire Safe Council Funded Collection ~ tons Upcoming Working with TTSD on the development of a possible pilot curbside green waste collection program.

21 Greening Town Facilities Reduced Town Hall trash service by replacing a 6 yard trash dumpster with a free cardboard only dumpster; annual savings $4,200. Added a cardboard only dumpster to the Corp yard for shared use between Town Public Works Staff and the Humane Society. Switched all Town bulk printing paper to 30% recycled content vs. virgin paper. Added printed on recycled paper to standard Town letterhead. Working with Purchasers to procure recycled content products (RCPs). Worked with Bradbury s to provide purchasers a list of commonly purchased products in recycled content. Provided all Town staff with work stations a blue recycling bin for the collection of recyclables. Encourage staff to bring their own plates and utensils to work rather than utilizing disposable alternatives. Provide staff periodic reminders on waste diversion and recycling practices.
