INTRODUCTION ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PLAN An environmental management plan (EMP) has been prepared for the proposed construction of commercial project to minimize negative impacts and is formed on the basis of prevailing environmental conditions and likely impacts of this project on various environmental parameters. This plan will also facilitate monitoring of environmental parameters. EMP includes scheme for proper and scientific treatment and disposal mechanism for air, liquid and solid hazardous pollutants. Apart from this, green belt development, safety aspect of the workers, noise control, fire protection etc. are also included in it. DETAILS OF ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PLAN 1. AIR ENVIRONMENT 1.1 CONSTRUCTION PHASE Construction phase will be for a short period and hence the impacts will also be for a short and temporary period. During construction activities, mainly emission of dust and gases from movement of vehicles and construction activity is expected. Air emissions from construction sites can pose health risks to workers and sensitive receptors surrounding the site, if not manage properly. It is the responsibility of the contractor to provide appropriate safety training, information of the equipment, security and emergency response plans on the site. To mitigate the impact of SPM (dust), the following measures are recommended for implementation 1. A dust control plan, and 2. Procedural changes to construction activities (I) DUST CONTROL PLAN FUGITIVE DUST SOURCE Disturbed surface areas DUST CONTROL ACTIONS Water will be sprinkled on loose top soil to prevent re-suspension of dust into ambient air due to movement of vehicles etc. The most cost-effective dust suppressant is water. Water can be applied using water trucks, handheld sprays and automatic sprinkler systems. (II) PROCEDURAL CHANGES TO CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES Using electrically operated construction machinery is the best way to avoid all externalities produced by diesel engines. This procedural change reduces problems related to emission and maintenance. The diesel generators used on site, in case of power failure are to be maintained properly. To mitigate the impact of pollutants from other activities during construction phase, the following measures are recommended for implementation. Separate civil construction material storage yard will be created within the site and it will be enclosed.

Cement bags will be separately stored under cover in bales. Sand will be stacked under tarpaulin cover. Possibility of raising green belt along with construction activity will also be explored. Transport vehicles and construction equipments / machineries will be properly maintained to reduce air emissions. Vehicles and equipments will be periodically checked for pollutant emissions against stipulated norms. Exhaust vent of DG set will be kept at proper height to ensure quick dispersal of gaseous emissions. All construction workers will be provided appropriate PPEs like dust mask, ear plug, helmet, safety belt etc. and made to wear them during working hours. The roads will be well planned with sufficient width of drive ways so as to avoid congestion. This will help to avoid increase in the level of fugitive emissions due to congestion of the traffic. 1.2 OPERATIONAL PHASE There is only one main sources of pollution in operational phase is vehicular emission. To mitigate the impact of pollutants from vehicular traffic during operational phase, the following measures are recommended for implementation. Sudden acceleration or de-acceleration of vehicles produces more pollution than a vehicle maintaining a constant speed. Smoother flow of traffic within the parking area and premises of residential areas would ensure lesser pollution from the vehicles. To ensure least interference from incoming and outgoing vehicles, it is suggested that entrance and exit points of the vehicles should be different. Dedicating atleast one entry and exit to pedestrians will reduce interference in vehicular movement. 2. WATER ENVIRONMENT 2.1 CONSTRUCTION PHASE The water demand during the construction phase will be 13.0 KLD. Out of this, 10.0 KLD will be required for construction and & sprinkling activity 3.0 KLD will be required for domestic purpose. Domestic effluent generated will be 2.4 KLD which will be disposed off through SUDA drains and treated in nearest Sewage Treatment Plant of SUDA. Following management measures are implemented to protect the water quality during the construction phase: Avoiding excavation during monsoon season. All containments including oil and fuel storage shall be provided on impervious flooring. All stacking and loading areas will be provided with proper garland drains to prevent run off from the site. Proper and sufficient sanitary facility will be provided to construction workers to maintain

hygienic conditions at site. 2.2 OPERATIONAL PHASE During operational phase total water requirement i.e KLD will be only for domestic purpose only. Total water requirement will be met from SUDA. The Water quality is through necessary treatment maintained by SUDA. As SUDA is supplying treated drinking water in water mains, there is no need for further treatment of water to make it potable. Only domestic waste water shall be generated i.e KLD will be disposed off through SUDA drainage after treating it at the proposed STP. 3. SOLID WASTE 3.1 CONSTRUCTION PHASE Main solid waste generation during construction phase will be construction debris like rubble, brick bats, debris, steel scrap, wooden scrap, sand, gravel etc. However, these materials are inert in nature and will not result into leaching of any substance or constituent. These materials will be properly sorted and will be used within premises for filling of low lying areas. Wooden scrap, steel scrap will be given to scrap dealers. On completion of civil work, all debris etc. will be completely removed from site to avoid any incompatibility with future use. 3.2 OPERATIONAL PHASE Proper collection facilities will be provided throughout the project area. Door to Door solid waste collection system is existing in whole surat city. That will be provided at location site also. The segregation of wet and dry waste will also be adopted. 3.3 OTHER WASTE Construction sites are sources of some toxic substances, such as paints, solvents, adhesives and sealants. Empty containers of these substances shall be returned back to the manufacturers or dealers as the case may be. Some management practices to be developed are; Paintbrushes and equipment for water and oil based paints shall be cleaned within a contained area and shall not be allowed to contaminate site soils, watercourses, or drainage systems. Instruct employees and subcontractors in identification of hazardous and solid waste. 4. NOISE ENVIRONMENT 4.1 CONSTRUCTION PHASE The D.G. sets will be enclosed in an inbuilt acoustic enclosure. Following measures are proposed during construction period to mitigate adverse impacts: Construction machinery and vehicles will undergo periodic maintenance to keep them in good working condition. All machineries to be used for construction purpose will be of highest standard of reputed make and compliance of noise pollution control norms by these equipments will be emphasized. Moving parts of the machines were and will be maintained properly so as to avoid metal-to-metal impact noise. Feasibility of putting up acoustic enclosure / temporary barrier around areas with high noise levels

will also be explored. All construction workers working in high noise areas will be provided appropriate PPEs like ear muffs and made to wear them during working hours. Possibility of raising green belt along with construction activity will also be explored so as to serve as a noise barrier. 4.2 OPERATIONAL PHASE Speed of the vehicles will be curtailed to 20 kmph to minimize noise and vibrations. The measures adopted to reduce the noise are as under- 1. The traffic flow will be smooth with less no. of starting and stopping. 2. Tree plantation will be done at all possible places. 3. The level of traffic noise levels fluctuates continuously, hence does not have significant impact. 4. Both entry and exit will be manned with trained and efficient security. 5. Road markings, stop lines, parking lanes will be painted to guide the internal road users. 6. Separate entry/exit shall be provided such that it enables the smooth movements of the vehicles. 5. LAND ENVIRONMENT Following steps are proposed to take care of impact of construction activity on project land area: On completion of civil work, all debris etc. will be completely removed from site to avoid any incompatibility with future use. Other material like paints, diesel etc. will be properly stored and handled to prevent any spillage on land. All the wastes will be stored at a designated site within the premises to prevent scattered discharge on land. 6. PLANTATION, LANDSCAPING AND ECOLOGICAL MANAGEMENT 6.1 CONSTRUCTION PHASE During the construction phase, following precautions should be followed Cutting, uprooting, coppicing of trees or small trees present in and around the project site for cooking, burning or heating purposes by the laborers will be prohibited and suitable alternatives for this purpose will be found. After completion of major construction work, the green belt will be developed with recommended plant species, as there will be no or less disturbance in these areas. After completion of soil work, temporary vegetation preferably grasses to be planted to minimize soil erosion 6.2 OPERATION PHASE Keeping in view the climatic conditions, status of soils and vegetation types in and around the project area the species shall be selected for proposed green belt development. It will also include earth filling, which may be required for the proper balance of the sapling.

7. SOCIO-ECONOMIC Socio - economic effect of construction phase will be positive due to direct and indirect employment opportunity for the local population. The Social management plan has been designed to take proactive steps and adopt best practices, which are sensitive to the socio-cultural setting of the region. Contractors are required to abide employment priority towards locals and abide by the indian labour laws regarding standards on employee terms and conditions. Following the appointment of the contractor, information on employment was available to the local community. Information will be provided on scale and duration of employment, type of available work and demand projection. 8. RAINWATER RECHARGING Roof drainage will be through gutter/down take pipe. Rainwater from roof will be collected in catch basins located at different places and will be conveyed to external drainage system which is connected to proposed water bodies in different location to collect the rainwater. Rainwater recharging system will be designed as per Central Groundwater Board (CGWB) guideline/local bylaws. 9. ENERGY CONSERVATION Following measures & ways will be taken to save the Electrical Energy:- All internal common area lighting system is proposed to have either high efficiency lamps (T5/T8)/CFL. Energy efficient compact Fluorescent Lamps to be used as these CFL gives same illumination with less wattage compare to other GLS Lamps. LED type lights & Sodium vapour lights will be used for external lighting. Large size windows to get the sufficient day light. Passive solar architectural features: Well defined organic spaces between building wings. Evocative of local landscape. Heat absorbing material will be used e.g. wood, earth, colours etc. Green belt will act as a heat absorbent.
