2 Discfilter is an ideal Filtration System for Tertiary Filtration and Wastewater Reuse With numerous installations throughout the United States and with California DHS Title 22 Approval, the Discfilter provides filtration experience for today s demanding tertiary filtration, water reuse, and cooling tower sidestream filtration applications. By employing woven cloth filter elements installed vertically on multiple discs, the Discfilter supplies a large filter area within a small footprint that is up to 75% smaller than a traditional sand or multi-media filter. A smaller footprint equates to lower total installed costs. With a minimal amount of mechanical and other ancillary equipment, maintenance of the Discfilter is simple, therefore achieving very low operating costs. The Discfilter is fabricated in 304 or 316 stainless steel allowing for long-term, trouble-free operation under the toughest conditions. The Discfilter is the obvious cost-effective and reliable filtration technology. 3 Discfilter Filtration Made Simple Pictures above show Discfilters in a watewater treatment plant for effluent polishing. With its large filter area and small footprint, the 2200-Series is especially well suited for this application. The Discfilter is also used for filtration of intake water and effluent from various types of industrial processes. Flow Capactiy: Up to 3,600 GPM per filter/tank unit Up to 7,000 GPM per filter/frame unit Filter opening: micron Pilot units available Discfilters use a woven media filter for fine solids removal and product recovery. It offers a large filter area in a small footprint. Normal Operation The water to be treated flows by gravity into the filter segments from the center drum. Solids accumulate on the inside of the filter panels mounted on the two sides of the disc segments. As the solids accumulate on the inside of the filter media, the flow of water through the disc is impeded. The water level inside the discs begins to rise and a level sensor is triggered to start the drum rotation and backwash cycle. A high pressure rinse removes the accumulated solids from the filter media and into the solids collection trough. Typically, the backwash requirement is 1-2% of the total flow.

4 80% The combination of Actiflo TM and Discfilter (Actidisc (R) ) provides a very robust and very compact plant able to deal with large hydraulic loads and substances. This combination insures an 80% reduction of the area required compared to other solutions of similar capacity and load. Moving Backwash Spray Header Partial Submergence Filtering at partial submergence allows multiple operational benefits. Filtration is continuous even during the backwash cleaning cycle. During the backwash, the unsubmerged media is rotated below the water line allowing the filter to handle high solids spikes while maintaining treatment. The effluent collection tank or chamber does not need to be drained for normal maintenance of the Discfilter media since the backwash cleaning system is above the submergence level. Barrier The modular filter panels consist of a woven polyester filter media supported in the disc frame. With a precise pore size, the woven material of the Discfilter media allows for better filtration than filters containing non-woven media with an average pore size. The woven filter media provides an absolute barrier and is available in various pore sizes. The moving backwash spray header of the Discfilter guarantees efficient cleaning of the filter media. This feature increase the life expectancy of the filter media and results in a considerable reduction of rinse water consumption. The backwash spray header also folds out to facilitate maintenance of the spray nozzles, which can be removed and replaced without the use of any tools. Filter Expansion The modular panels provide a simple means of maintaining and expanding the Discfilter. A filter containing fewer discs can be installed with more discs added as flow rates increase to meet future needs. 5 Simple Maintenance The backwash spray header is retractable for easy access. Tools are not required for the inspection or replacement of nozzles. Only two fasteners have to be removed to release each filter panel. Inspection and maintenance is simple because the filter discs operate partially submerged, allowing access without draining the tank. The Discfilter s filter panels are secured to the disc by a single end cap and two fasteners, allowing for easy inspection and replacement. Simple and efficient, the panel s patented design facilitates replacement without the need for specialized service or system downtime. If operational or performance needs change, the design allows for an easy switch to a filter media with a different pore size. This can be easily accomplished without tools. The filter basin does not have to be drained prior to the removal of filter media panels.
