AORA SOLAR S TULIP SYSTEM A HYBRID SOLAR THERMAL SOLUTION

COMPANY PROFILE

COMPANY PROFILE AORA SOLAR commercializes its own solar thermal technology the TULIP system, based on a solar receiver heating atmospheric air R&D activities began in 1999 based on university research More than USD 32 million invested in R&D to date 2009: TULIP I (Samar, Israel) +More than 30 employees Marketing presence in 8 countries Third generation receiver implemented Increasing recognition within the solar sector 2012: TULIP II (Almeria, Spain) AORA SOLAR has invested more than USD 32 million in R&D to date 3

COMPANY PROFILE AORA s corporate structure is a holding company with two main headquarters, one of them for Marketing & Sales activities and the other one for R&D activities MEXICO PORTUGAL UNITED STATES ITALY MOROCCO SPAIN ISRAEL CYPRUS Presence in 8 countries Marketing & Sales Research & Development 25 employees 15 employees AORA Solar Mexico AORA Solar Italy AORA Solar USA Besides, the Company has incorporated companies in some other countries focused in commercial activities 4

TULIP SYSTEM

TULIP SYSTEM AORA s technology main features are four modularity, hybridation, limited use of water and ability to use alternative fuels MODULAR HYBRID (24/7) NO USE OF WATER ALTERNATIVE FUELS 6

TULIP SYSTEM AORA s TULIP System follows the same basic principles of a solar tower plant, with the exception of the internal performance of the turbine STEP 1 The heliostat field reflects the concentrated solar irradiation to the top of the tower, where the receiver and the turbine equipment are installed 100kWe 170kWth STEP 2 AORA s registered solar receiver transfers solar irradiation to the pressurized air that propels the hybrid turbine, yielding up to 100 electrical kwh and 170 thermal kwh Each TULIP unit generates 100 electrical kwh and 170 thermal kwh 7

BIOGAS PLANT Liquid waste 2 Fertilizers 5 Biogas 4 Biogas 3 COLLECTION PHASE: The substrates are transported to the processing plant to be sorted by their composition and stored in adequate containers for solid waste (1) in case of waste containing high proportion of solids or into liquid waste tank (2) in case of high liquid proportion. PHASE I: Solids and liquid organic fraction are then mixed and diluted into the adequate density and piped into the primary digester (3). Once into the digester the microorganisms will process the digestate by means of methanogenesis biological processes transforming the digestate into biogas. 1 PHASE II: After a first phase of digestion residues are transferred to the secondary digester (4), where a second stage will be held for biodigestion finish converting the remaining biological matter into biogas. 1 STORAGE PHASE The resulting processed residue (digestate) is pumped to final digestate reservoirs or ponds (5) where it is stored until needed. This digestate can be used as bio-fertilizer. 8

TULIP SYSTEM-Modular An AORA plant can have a distributed configuration building each TULIP module far from the others, without losing power-generation efficiency TULIP System is configured in independent 100 kw base units. Modularity allows to connect such units, offering scalable plants with different sizes, from 100 kw to MW, distributed in various groups of units like 500 kw, 1 MW, 5 MW and so. Therefore, the design of the plant is adjusted to the client s requirements and to the grid Examples of TULIP plants: distributed (left) and grouped (right) TULIP plants overcome the general requirement of large, flat expanses of land to install large solar plants 9

TULIP SYSTEM HYBRID TULIP System can use solar energy or other fuel alternatively, therefore operating around the clock (24/7) Use of alternative fuels Hybridation can be done with conventional fossil fuels natural gas, for example, or with renewable fuels such as biogas. There are lots of geographical areas generating high levels of waste which can be used to produce biogas. This biogas can be used as fuel for power production when there is no sunlight TULIP plant hybridized with a biogas plant Plant in Almeria (Spain) in operation at night Hybridation allows AORA s technology to operate independently of weather conditions, therefore being 100% manageable 10

TULIP SYSTEM NO WATER TULIP System uses compressed air instead of steam to generate electricity Taking into account that TULIP plants doesn t need water to operate, they are very appropriate for geographical areas with lack of water, which are precisely the ones with more solar irradiation Plant in the desert of Tabernas (Almeria, Spain) Plant in the desert of Samar (Eilat, Israel) TULIP plants only need water to refrigerate the receiver and the turbine and to clean the mirrors of the heliostats around 230 liters/mwh 11

TULIP SYSTEM COGENERATION WITH BIOGAS TULIP System also generates 170 kwh of thermal power which can be used for multiple applications Solid waste Liquid waste Fertilizers Solid waste storage Liquid waste tank Biogas plant Biogas Tulip plant hybridized with biogas Thermal energy Electrical energy Residential hot water Industrial heat Absorption chilling Residential electricity Industrial Electricity Biogas plant
