2 P a g e 2 Scope This Sustainable Management Plan for NightQuarter is implemented and reviewed by NightQuarter Management on an annual basis and was written in consultation with environmental groups such as WWE for viewpoints and guidance. The principles and guidelines are to be embraced by all vendors and contractors at the venue, including the purchasing and use of sustainable products, using sustainable transport options, waste minimisation and the appropriate disposal of waste and recycling in the bin facilities provided. It applies to all events, functions, and workshops co-ordinated by NightQuarter. This Sustainable Management Plan 2017 and beyond is a strategic statement reflecting one of the key goals identified by NightQuarter in its Code of Conduct I Will embrace sustainability and social responsibility where the organisation and its staff strive to embed environmental, social, economic and cultural sustainability in all its activities. This then forms a key component in all staff s KPIs, goals and activities. The Sustainable Management Plan for NightQuarter includes relevant goals, indicators and accountabilities that will be reviewed annually for the following: Executive Management Human Resources Education Community Engagement Operational Practices Reporting and Monitoring Introduction In 2017, NightQuarter undertook a review of its sustainability activities, specifically to reduce its carbon footprint and more broadly of the way that the principles of sustainability are promoted across all events of NightQuarter. To co-ordinate this work, a Sustainability Greening Committee was established to work on the development of a Sustainability Management Plan. NightQuarter Owners and Management approved the Sustainability Policy in October Version 2. was ignited to meet the needs of Festival 18. The Sustainability Plan 2017 and Beyond articulates the principles in a strategic framework for action, monitoring and reporting. A widely accepted definition of sustainability is Meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (Brundtland Report, 1987). For NightQuarter, adopting the principles of sustainability means incorporating them into decisionmaking processes and operational activities, thus ensuring environmental protection, social responsibility and sound fiscal practice. NightQuarter is committed to effective community engagement. Generally, the broader community is embracing sustainable practices. Gold Coast residents continue to be water wise following

3 P a g e 3 extended drought periods in Queensland and In June 2018, it will be law in Queensland to ban single use plastic bags. NightQuarter responds readily to community engagement and feedback on its business practices. 1. Defining Sustainability Sustainability encompasses environmental, social and economic dimensions. Areas of activity include: Biodiversity Energy and Carbon Emissions Recycling and Waste Reduction Sustainable Transport Sustainable Products and Materials Sustainable Water Procurement Biodiversity Biodiversity refers to all the animals and plans present in an area, and not just the obvious species. The ongoing functioning of ecosystems require interactions between all participating species large, microscopic, stationary and mobile, seen and unseen. Attempting to understand biodiversity requires an appreciate of the varieties of life and the intricate ways they relate. NightQuarter was situated on a vacant block of land. Existing trees were built around due to the dense birdlife that habitat them. Native plants were planted around the perimeter and within the venue. Goal: To apply best practice in managing our natural settings while providing excellent facilities to meet the operational demands of NightQuarter. Objective: To ensure that relevant NightQuarter plans, policies and procedures consider biodiversity values. Actions and Accountabilities

This will be achieved through systematically improving the energy efficiency and use of resources by continuing to embed sustainable practices in our corporate strategies, policies and operational procedures and by raising awareness of environmental issues among staff, market stalls and the wider community. A carbon reduction venue means low energy bills, new local industry and clean air. Reducing carbon emissions doesn t happen immediately, but big improvements can be made with little changes. Practical steps to reduce emissions include reducing energy demands for heating, cooling, ventilation, lighting and power usage for cooking, and generating energy from low carbon or renewable sources on or near the site. Taking advantage of these opportunities provides value to all involved. Energy With the growth and as energy demand rises, energy efficiency has become a high priority. Managing transport through to easy accessibility for the disabled has eliminating barriers for safe, independent and dignified experience. NightQuarter encourages its patrons, staff and market venders to think about the sustainability of transport modes. With the long corridor of the Gold Coast and the transportation of food and other goods, this makes it challenging. To overcome these constraints and to reduce carbon emissions, public transport, carpooling and cycling are encouraged as alternatives to private cars wherever possible. The location of NightQuarter was partly chosen for its access to public transport; train, light rail and bus services are opposite the front opening of the venue. Better use of technology also helps to reduce our carbon emissions related to travel. Teleconferencing to reduce trips for staff is encouraged and working from home on non-trade days, improving staff productivity through reducing travel times. It is also encouraged to use public transport to meetings wherever possible. All documentation is available remotely via The Cloud and Web access. E-Newsletters are frequently used to market stalls, staff and customers.
