4 THE ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY As an enterprise with less than 250 employees, you will be increasingly required to demonstrate how you are taking the environment and broader sustainability issues seriously, in the way you manage your business. You may already be looking into managing your organisation s impact on the environment, perhaps you have given a member of staff responsibility for environmental management. You may be initiating systems to manage resources, such as your energy and materials, and understanding what your business needs to do to meet legislative requirements. Whatever your motivation, we want to keep you ahead of the game. Or, as an innovative environmental consultant, you may wish to promote your products and services by evidencing the work you do in a practical way and demonstrate you have the most competent professionals working on your behalf.

6 1. INTRODUCTION TO THE IEMA ACORN SCHEME The Acorn Scheme is an environmental management system standard which has been officially recognised by the government. It is delivered in a series of six logical phases using the British Standard BS8555 and you decide on your time-frame for working through each phase, making it a flexible approach adaptable to the capacity of your organisation. You can engage your supply chain in environmental performance improvement which should lead to improved efficiencies, reduced costs and enhanced competitiveness. As a Corporate Member you are entitled to a work book which covers phases 1-3 to start you on your journey. These provide you with a step-by-step route to ISO certification and/or Eco-Management Audit Scheme registration. You will also receive accredited recognition and be included on the IEMA Acorn Register. 2. IEMA WEBINAR SERIES: HOW TO IMPLEMENT AN ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM IEMA runs a programme of over 150 webinars a year for its 15,000 members, covering a broad range of topic areas from generalist to specialist. Included in your membership is access to the IEMA EMS Webinar Series, which supports your organisation in the implementation of an Environmental Management System and keeps you up-to-date with the latest developments. This is a valuable resource that complements the Acorn Scheme and the work book. 3. ONE YEAR-LONG AFFILIATE MEMBERSHIP As part of the IEMA for Business package, you can access a one year subscription for one member of your staff to join IEMA at Affiliate Membership level. This is IEMA s entry level of membership and marks the starting point from which members can progress their professional development, by means of training courses, examinations and assessments, to become a recognised Associate and/or Full Member of IEMA.

7 4. ONE YEAR-LONG GACSO MEMBERSHIP The Global Association of Corporate Sustainability Officers (GACSO), was founded by a group of forward-thinking executives. Your organisation s CEO, or most senior manager responsible for your organisation s sustainability agenda, is automatically entitled to a one year membership of this influential group of senior managers. This will enable them to network with leading sustainability thinkers and decision makers in organisations. 5. USE OF THE IEMA CORPORATE MEMBERSHIP LOGO The IEMA logo, presented on your documentation, including letterheads, website and tender submissions, shows your commitment to putting environment management and sustainability at the heart of your organisation. 6. PROMOTING YOUR COMPANY LOGO Your logo will be displayed on the online IEMA Logo Board, alongside some of the most inspirational FTSE100 organisations in business, education and government. In addition to your logo, you will also be able to add a description of the work you do and the products and services you provide. 7. THE ENVIRONMENTALIST MAGAZINE: 10% DISCOUNT ON ADVERTISING Your organisation will be entitled to a 10% discount on both display and recruitment advertisements, as we want to support you in your recruitment of the best environmental professionals.

8 8. STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP SESSION: 10% DISCOUNT This powerful half-day session will change the way you do business. This session challenges leaders in organisations, including senior executives, board members and investors, to formulate a strategic understanding of the risks and opportunities presented by a changing environment on their ability to do business. The session also helps senior executives to understand their personal obligations to ensure the business remains compliant. The outcome of the session is a complete re-engineering of your strategic objectives. This session is delivered on your site by an independent IEMA professional. 9.
