2 JOB DESCRIPTION CITY OF CAMDENTON, MISSOURI POSITION TITLE: DEPARTMENT: INITIAL MERIT LEVEL: Firefighter Fire Department Hourly employee The Firefighter is appointed, employed and compensated at the discretion of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen. DEFINITION: Under the direction of the Fire Chief, or his / her designee, the firefighter shall perform but not be limited to the following duties: 1. on duty - respond to all fire department incidents 2. off duty - respond to any first alarm calls (or higher) or special calls, per the Fire Chief or his / her designee 3. perform daily apparatus and equipment checks to ensure all apparatus and equipment are prepared for immediate response 4. assist with placing all apparatus and equipment in service upon completion of an incident or training 5. be responsible for hose, hydrant and apparatus testing 6. be responsible for scheduling and completing maintenance of apparatus, equipment, hoses and hydrants 7. be responsible for department inventory, maintenance records, hose and hydrant test records and other records as require both manual and electronic 8. assist with the care and up keep of the station, apparatus, and all fire equipment 9. assist with department and lake area training 10. assist as needed in public fire education and fire safety programs 11. assist as needed with fire inspections 12. other tasks as assigned MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: In order to hold the Firefighter position an employee must: 1. be a citizen of the United States of America 2. be 18 years of age 3. *have a high school diploma or equivalent 4. *have a valid Missouri Operators (Class E) license and have no legal or physical impairments that would prevent the applicant from obtaining a Class B Commercial license with an air brake endorsement 5. pass a complete background check with no felony convictions, or other than honorable discharges from any military service 6. *Current required certifications: *Medical First Responder certification *Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) certification preferred (by the Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services / Bureau of Emergency Medical Services) *Healthcare Provider CPR & AED / infant, child & adult (by the American Heart Association) *Firefighter I & II (by the Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office) *Wildland Firefighter, level 1 (by the Missouri Department of Conservation) *Fire Service Instructor I (by the Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office) *National Incident Command System / NIMS certification: 100, 200, 700 and 800 (Through FEMA) *Hazardous Materials/WMD Incident Response: Awareness (by the Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office) *Hazardous Materials: Operations (by the Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office) 7. have knowledge of public education and fire prevention techniques 8. show the ability of communicate effectively with the public and other emergency personnel Updated: September

3 JOB DESCRIPTION CITY OF CAMDENTON, MISSOURI 9. demonstrate the ability to take direction as needed 10. have a working knowledge of MS Office (including word and excel) and Firehouse Software 11. be able to work under standard operating procedures and abide by policies stated in or granted by the municipal code 12. be able to work cooperatively and effectively with supervisors, other employees and the public 13. have good oral and written communication skills / read, write and speak the English language 14. be able to understand and execute verbal and written instructions 15. be comfortable working in a stressful environment, an unpredictable schedule in all weather conditions 16. live within the City limits or within 15 minute normal driving time from the Camdenton Fire Department 17. pass a post offer pre-employment drug screening and job specific physical testing: o Test I (Simulates climbing ladders while donning fire gear) Candidate will step up/down vertical ladder 3 rungs for 10 reps while wearing 50 pound weight vest. o Test II (Simulates stepping up/down from emergency vehicles) Candidate will step up/down 24 step with use of one handrail x 3 reps while wearing 50 pound weight vest. o Test III (Simulates crawling and walking while wearing fire gear) Candidate will crawl on ground while wearing 50 pound weight vest for 100 feet, then will walk on treadmill at 2% incline for 5 minutes while wearing weight vest x 1 rep. o Test IV (Simulates carrying medical jump bag) Candidate will lift a duffel bag weighing 35 pounds from a shelf at 50 height, carry 75 feet, ascend/descend two flights of stairs (30 stair steps) then return bag to shelf x 1 rep. o Test V (Simulates pulling someone along ground in case of emergency) Candidate will perform a static vertical lift holding a push/pull dynamometer with an underhand grip and positioned at knee height, generating a minimum 140 pound isometric pull force. Candidate will then pull a180 pound weighted sled; handles positioned at waist height and using an underhand grip a distance of 25 feet x 1 rep. o Test VI (Simulates lifting and carrying a pump, emergency cot, ladders) Candidate will lift a 90 pound box from a 36 handle height and carry 50 then place box on ground x 1 rep. o Test VII (Simulates pulling water hose off of fire truck) Candidate will exert a 60 pound horizontal pull force from a height of 78 x 1 rep. o Safe lifting criteria Floor to knuckle: 90 pounds. Knuckle to shoulder: 35 pounds. * = Copies must be turned in with the completed application ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: While performing the duties of this job the Firefighter will: frequently required to sit and talk or hear specific vision ability required to include close vision and the ability to adjust focus ability to operate a keyboard and view computer screens for an extended period of time sight, hearing, speech, frequent lateral mobility lifting items above head climbing ladders or steps stooping and bending squatting, sorting, kneeling and reaching to ground level and overhead as required for such tasks as retrieving files be able to hold and grip objects mentally analyze a situation solve problems make decisions and work under pressure and high stress in area of responsibility work primarily Monday-Friday during the day; occasional unpredictable ending times o Schedule days and times are subject to change o o Occasionally may need to work evenings or weekends for scheduled trainings or events During summer (Memorial Day to Labor Day) rotating with other personnel to work Saturday day shift in exchange for a day off during that work week Updated: September
