1 Summer Employment 2017 Residence Life Housing Operations Information & Application Packet Thank you for your interest in working with the Residence Life Programs during our Summer Intensives program. Below you will find the timeline for the hiring process as well as a checklist of all of the needed information that is required for a completed application. 2 Maintenance Assistant (MA) Position Overview The Maintenance Assistant (MA) is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in all Residence Life buildings as instructed by the Associate Director of Housing Operations. This position ensures that the physical aspects of the facilities meet the University s established standards and any applicable laws. The MA position will officially begin work on May 8 th and may continue through August 18 th. Any judicial or criminal offenses may result in immediate termination from the position. Responsibilities Ensures that work order requests are responded to promptly and professionally Perform work area clean-up and safety related duties Inspects buildings and grounds to ensure safety and cleanliness, and alerts Maintenance Supervisor to items that need to be repaired Schedule and perform routine preventive maintenance on all appropriate equipment as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor and the Associate Director of Housing Operations & Facilities. Ensures residential units have been turned in a timely and efficient manner, as well as determines if work has been completed properly. Assist the Maintenance Supervisor to repair problems in the areas of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, dry walling, and appliances. Sweep, dry, mop, vacuum, and wash all floors surfaces with the proper equipment and detergents Move and replace furniture as needed. Wash windows, walls, woodwork, lavatories, furniture, doors, and window casings. Replace and clean lights and light fixtures as needed. Assist with summer and fall tasks as needed. Other duties as assigned Qualifications & Skills Ability to physically perform all functions of the job including heavy lifting, squatting, and standing/sitting for long periods of time. Time management skills Must have outstanding customer service skills Prefer applicants to be at least 18 years old on the first day of work Compensation $10.00/hour for a 37.5 hour work week The position is only a temporary position
3 Painter s Assistant (PA) Position Overview Under general supervision, Painter Assistant s (PA) will perform work in the painting, finishing, and maintaining of a wide variety of interior and exterior surfaces and structures; may direct the work of other classified staff in the area; and perform related work as required. PAs will prepare surfaces for painting and finishing; applies undercoats and finish coats using the full range of application methods and materials; mixes and matches paints and finishes. The PA position will officially begin work on May 8 th and may continue through August 18 th. Any judicial or criminal offenses may result in immediate termination from the position. Responsibilities Prepares, primes, sands, seals, patches, and paints surfaces, buildings, and fixtures utilizing all types of painting materials such as enamel, latex, epoxy, water-proofing, and heat resistant finishes. Tapes, flushes, repairs, and applies layers on a variety of surfaces. Adjusts colors when necessary; utilizes enhanced finishing skills when appropriate. Graffiti response and removal using a variety of available products. Operates, cleans, and maintains all painting equipment, including brushes, rollers, and sprayers. Safely stores and labels all materials. Assists other essential staff including MAs and Maintenance Supervisor. Qualifications Painting experience (both interior and exterior) preferred but not required Must have outstanding customer service skills Ability to physically perform all functions of the job including heavy lifting, squatting, and standing/sitting for long periods of time. 4 Seasonal Housekeeping Assistant Position Overview Under general supervision, housekeeper Assistant s (HA) will perform detailed cleaning work in the residential facilities, both on the interior and exterior. HAs will prepare living spaces for occupation by Summer Intensive Program participants and Fall Semester students. This temporary/seasonal HA position will officially begin work on May 8 th and may continue through August 18 th. Any judicial or criminal offenses may result in immediate termination from the position. Responsibilities Sweeping and moping various types of hard surface flooring Vacuuming any carpeted area Washing/wiping: all walls, windows & sills, mirrors, doors & casings, cabinets, furniture, lavatories & sinks, woodwork, light switches & outlet covers and other surfaces as requested by the supervisor. Clean any and all appliances located within any given space related to Residence Life & Housing. Picking up trash on exterior of Residence Life Areas Sweeping stairways in all housing areas as needed Clean window screens where accessible Clean kitchen and bath cabinets as needed Clean shower area including walls, floor and doors Report maintenance needs to supervisor Maintain clean work space and equipment Clean laundry appliances as needed (washers & dryers) Qualifications Some general cleaning experience preferred Ability to perform all functions of the job including: heavy lifting, squatting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, sitting and standing for extended periods of time. Ability to manage time to accomplish given tasks Good communication skills Good customer service skills. Prefer applicants to be at least 18 years old on the first day of work Compensation $10.00 per hour for up to 37.5 hours per week. This position is only a temporary position.
