7 Salary Structures REWARD allows you to: Review and maintain multiple salary structures Develop new salary structure alternatives Create multiple versions of each salary structure Assign jobs to multiple structures using Grade Link Model the cost impact of structure options prior to implementation Creates a graph comparing market values to midpoints 167

11 Filtering the Structure by Grade When done click Apply For ease of viewing large structures, Filter by Grade 1. Click the Select Grades option to display the grade list 2. Choose one or more grades (hold the Ctrl key to select multiple grades) 171

13 Editing Salary Structures Click here to Edit the structure; editing options are explained on the following pages You can edit/modify the components of the salary structure. However, we recommend you ALWAYS create a COPY of the structure prior to any modification. i 173

14 Editing Salary Structures Edit Structure information Edit structure parameters (e.g., number of grades, currency, etc.) Edit Grade Edit grade code, rank or grade group Edit Ranges Edit the minimum, midpoint and maximum of the salary ranges and adjust all ranges by the same percentage Edit Differential Edit the midpoint differential percentages Edit Target Values Edit the target incentive percentage for each grade or reset all target incentive percentages to one number Edit Comments Enter comments for each grade 174

17 Creating a New Structure To create a new structure, select Add from the structure action menu 177

18 Creating a New Structure Name the structure (required) Give the structure a Code (required) Version number (required) Choose Sort preference Default sort is descending Choose Currency US Dollar is default Determine Rounding Determine whether or not the ranges are to be symmetrical (midpoint is the mathematical middle of a range) Enter salary range parameters Highest/Lowest Midpoint Highest/Lowest Range Spread % Either Number of Grades or Midpoint Differential % Select appropriate Entity Key Click Save 178

20 Salary Structures: Grade Link Concept Jobs can be assigned to structures by using the Grade Link Grade links are commonly used to model salary structure adjustments and movement The Job Grade Link Type can be changed from the Scoreboard 180

21 Structure Action: Edit Job-to-Structure Grade Links The Edit Job-To-Structure Grade Links is used to assign jobs to a particular structure, unassign jobs to a structure, or copy links to a structure Select the Structure, then from the Action List select Edit Job-To-Structure Grade Links 181

23 Structure Action: Analyze Cost After the Job-to-Structure links have been established, the structure cost can be analyzed Select the Structure, then from the Action List select Analyze the Cost of a Structure 183

24 Result: Analyzing Cost of Structure A table will appear showing basic costing statistics Note: The table defaults to looking at the structure quartiles. To change this, edit structure information and select Range Division 3-tritiles. 184

25 Structure Action: Update Structure The update structure action uses market values to define new midpoints for a given structure Process: Market price positions Select structure to update Run Update Based On Market action and define update parameters Set new midpoints to market Review and finalize structure The process is shown on the following pages 185

36 JOB MARKET RANGES What s the purpose of a Job Market Range? Job Market Ranges are used to override the grade minimum, midpoint and maximum for selected jobs, by using each job s market value as the midpoint, and using a percent above and below that midpoint to compute the job-specific range minimum and maximum The range around the market rate can be entered in REWARD several different ways: As a pair of percents (e.g., 20% below and 20% above) As scalars (e.g., 0.8 and 1.2) or Specify the range spread (percent difference between the minimum and maximum) 196

40 JOB MARKET RANGES Adjusting the Job Market Rate You can adjust the Job Market Range s market value to create an adjusted midpoint by entering a market adjustment factor The default is 1.0, which means to use the market value as the midpoint Job Market Rates can be adjusted by entering a market adjustment factor The default adjustment is 1.0, which sets the midpoint at the market rate The Grade Min, Midpoint, and Grade Max will be recalculated based on the adjusted market rate 200

41 JOB MARKET RANGES Copying the Job Market Rate from one year to the next Job Market Rate values can be copied from one match year to the next match year The process copies the Job Market Rate values for the selected job(s) from the match year you select to the selected target If there are Job Market Rates in the target year, they will be overwritten by the values from the source year 1. Select the appropriate jobs 2. From the Action box, choose Job Market Ranges Copy 4. Select Copy 3. Identify the Source Match hyear and Target Market Year 201

42 JOB MARKET RANGES Updating Job Market Ranges If your market values change: 1. Select the appropriate jobs 2. From the Action box, choose Job Market 3. Choose the Ranges Update appropriate Match Year to be updated 4. Click Update 202

43 JOB MARKET RANGES Updating Job Market Ranges The update process expects that the Job Market Rate records have already been created, and that you want to update the market values on which the ranges are based This update process does not change the percent-above or percent-below factors or the adjustment factor that may have been applied to the market value to arrive at the Job Market Rate midpoint The update process only re-calculates the market value stored in the Job Market Rate records for the selected jobs for the match year you select 203
