1 Young Women s Leadership Initiative Cohort Overview The Young Women Leadership Initiative is offering an inclusive, intensive series for a cohort of select young women. Across the year, the young women fellows collectively and individually complete a leadership development plan, engage in community-based efforts; interact regularly with female professionals as mentors and attend specially designed leadership training. The cohort will culminate in 3 days in Washington D.C., where they will have the opportunity to advocate for their chosen topic, by implementing the following skill set they have developed throughout the course of the program: Voice/Assertion Decision making/action Self-confidence Organization/Priority setting Vision/Ability to Motivate Others For her Take Action Project proposal, each girl will identify an issue/cause to which she will commit 20 hours of community service. The Take Action project fosters in each girl the lifelong value of community service. In addition, girls will be required to attend workshops in the following focus areas: Financial Literacy College Prep Leadership Development Writing and Editing Conflict Resolution Networking Global Citizenship
2 Workshop & Program Descriptions Camp CEO: At Camp CEO, you will participate in fun camp and outdoor activities alongside the Capital Region s most prominent female leaders. Sit around the campfire and discover how the area s most successful women got started, and how they and keep the fire burning! Learn how to stay on target with your goals while you practice archery. Camp CEO is a hybrid of classic camp and personal enrichment activities and a truly unique opportunity you will never forget! Dare to Climb: Dare to Climb is a minute mentoring style program where you get the opportunity to connect with women from a diverse range of professions, ask questions, and seek real answers. Realize your power and potential and learn from the Capital Region s finest women! Girls at the Capital: Learn advocacy skills, from research and hands-on field experience to an inside view of the New York Legislature. You have a voice and can be heard! College 101: College is the biggest and toughest decision you ll make in your high school career. Where should you go? Local or out of state? Private or Public? Community or Four Year? How can you make your college application stand out? And, when should get started? This road map will guide you through the maze! Financially Fierce: Finances are a part of our daily lives, so how do we take control? How can we have conversations about money? Why does it matter? Become financially fierce! Global Citizenship: Learn how you can make a difference through advocacy and Geo-partnering. Understand how you can help make The UN s 17 Sustainable Development Goals a reality. Camp CEO: Each high school student will spend a day shadowing a female CEO, learn about her background, career path, and how she creates value in her organization. Write the Right Way: A writing course designed to give you the skill set you will need to perfect a college essay, resume or simply get your writing skills where they need to be. We are all One: Understanding Diversity and Inclusion: One of the great challenges facing organizations is getting employees, from the CEO to the hourly workers, to realize that to become the best, they must embrace diversity. Diversity is what builds teams- a collection of individual experiences, backgrounds, and cultures that can view problems and challenges from a wide variety of lenses. Each participant will learn from themselves and each other. The video can be viewed online: OR Letter of Nomination: In order for an application to be considered complete, please submit one letter of nomination from a non-family member. Make sure your recommender completes the reference letter form, and attaches it to the application.

Communication is the key to being successful and failure to communicate with the mentor and Cohort advisor will result in the removal from the Cohort. I give her permission to miss school in fulfillment of internship duties and responsibilities. I agree to allow my daughter to participate fully in required training and I will provide transportation as needed. I agree to support my daughter in working with her school to ensure she meets the educational experience during her participation. Parent/Guardian Signature Date Cost: The program fee is $500 for the entirety of the 10 month experience, can be paid in $50 monthly increments. A $50 deposit is required upon acceptance into the Cohort. Financial assistance is available.
