2 SCES3314/02 BAHAGIAN/SECTION A (50 markah/marks) Jawab semua soalan dalam Bahagian ini. Answer all questions in this Section. 1. (a) Buktikan bahawa a = 4R/ 3 bagi sesuatu kekisi kiub berpusat jasad (BCC) dimana a ialah panjang kekisi dan R adalah jejari atom. Prove that a = 4R/ 3 for a body-centered cubic (BCC) crystal, where a is the edge length and R is the atomic radius. Tunjukkan bahawa faktor padatan atom bagi BCC ialah Show that the atomic packing factor for BCC is (iii) Tunjukkan sama ada plumbum mempunyai struktur hablur kiub berpusat muka FCC atau BCC. Diberikan jejari atom, jisim atom dan ketumpatan bagi plumbum masing-masing ialah 175 nm, g/mol dan g/cm 3. Show whether lead has a face-centered cubic (FCC) or BCC cyrstal structure, given that its atomic radius is nm, atomic weight is g/mol and density is g/cm 3. 3 SCES3314/03 (c) Tentukan dua kecacatan yang terbentuk dalam bahan seramik dan jelaskan jawapan anda. Give two defects that occur in ceramic materials and explain your answer. (6 markah/marks) Rajah di bawah menunjukkan gambarajah fasa bagi suatu sistem Aloi Kuprum-Perak. The following figure shows the phase diagram of a Copper-Silver Alloy system. Tuliskan tindak balas eutektik bagi sistem aloi ini. Write the eutectic reaction of this alloy system. Apakah fasa-fasa yang wujud dalam suatu sistem Aloi Kuprum- Perak dengan komposisi 40 wt% Ag- 60 wt% Cu pada 600 o C? Tentukan komposisi dan pecahan jisim bagi fasa-fasa tersebut. What are the phases that are presented in a Copper-Silver Alloy system with composition of 40 wt% Ag- 60 wt% Cu at 600 o C? Determine the composition and mass fraction of these phases. 4 SCES3314/04 BAHAGIAN/SECTION B (50 markah/marks) Jawab 2 soalan dalam Bahagian ini. Answer 2 questions in this Section. 3. (a) Resonans Magnet Nukleus (NMR) memerlukan medan magnet yang kuat untuk menentukan struktur molekul secara spektroskopik. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) requires strong magnetic field for spectroscopic determination of molecular structures. Proton boleh didapati dalam kawasan terperisai atau ternyahperisai dalam NMR. Terangkan maksud kawasan terperisai dan ternyahperisai. Anda boleh beri contoh-contoh yang sesuai dalam jawapan anda. Protons can be in shielded or deshielded regions in NMR. Explain the meaning of shielded and deshielded regions. You may give suitable examples to illustrate your answer. Terbitkan persamaan tentang perubahan medan magnet berkesan yang dialami dalam kedua-dua kawasan ini. Derive the related formula for the changes of the effective magnetic field experienced in both of these regions. 5 SCES3314/05 4. (a) Mikroskop elektron pengimbasan (SEM) digunakan untuk memerhatikan microspace yang tidak ternampak. Terangkan cara penyediaan sampel bagi SEM. Tentukan cara untuk menyediakan sampel konduktif daripada sampel tak-konduktif. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) is used for seeing the unseen worlds of microspace. Explain the sample preparation methods of SEM. How can a non-conductive sample be made conductive? (10 markah/marks) Dalam Spektroskopi Fotoelektron Sinaran-X (XPS), komposisi kimia pada permukaan sesuatu bahan dapat ditentukan daripada tenaga ikatan (BE) yang diperolehi. In X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), the chemical composition of the surface of material can be determine from the binding energy (BE) obtained. Terangkan hubungan BE dengan fungsi kerja, tenaga foton dan tenaga kinetik bagi elektron. Explain the relationship of BE with work function, energy of photon and kinetic energy of electron. Tunjukkan dalam bentuk gambarajah bagaimana foton sinaran X menghentam permukaan sesuatu bahan dan bagaimana fotoelektron sinaran X dibebaskan. Sketch a diagram to show how the X-ray photon hits the surface of a material and X-ray photoelectron is released. (15 markah/marks) 5. (a) Difraktometer sinaran X (XRD) dapat memberi maklumat tentang komposisi kimia dan struktur penghabluran bagi sesuatu bahan. Apakah perbezaan antara bahan amorfus dan bahan berhablur yang diperhatikan melalui XRD? Lukiskan difraktogram berkenaan untuk menjelaskan perbezaan puncak mereka. X-ray diffractometer (XRD) reveals detailed information about the chemical composition and crystallographic structure of a material. What is the difference between amorphous and crystalline materials as observed on the XRD? Sketch the diffractograms to explain the difference of their peaks. (8 markah/marks)
