Shri Goutam Kumar Bhowmik, General Secretary of the Association mentioned that the Association is working hand in hand with the State Govt to execute programs like reconstruction of Singur, distribution of input subsidy to farmers etc. He spoke on the relevance and purpose of the Seminar in the current perspective. He informed that, climate change has its worst impact on the farming sector. Around 570 millions farms across the world are facing the threat of climate change at present and India has long been regarded a climate change hotspot. On the other hand, growing global population and changing diets are driving up the demand for food to dizzying heights. To meet these unprecedented challenges, agriculture has to transmute and evolve. He asserted that, the Association, through its wide network throughout the State, is eager to play a meaningful role as an agency to spread the information and strategies to combat climate change. Shri Pradip Kumar Mazumdar, Advisor (Agriculture & Allied Sectors) to the Hon ble Chief Minister of West Bengal addressed the house and stressed on the success achieved by the West Bengal Government in increasing the farmers income by 2.5 times through adopting several pro-farmer measures. He also praised the departmental official for efficiently distributing input subsidy to the farming community, affected by natural calamity.

Dr. Asish Banerjee, Hon ble MIC, Agriculture praised the officials of the Agricultural Directorate and Department for their committed effort in betterment of farming community of the state. He mentioned that, in the last Budget Session the pension for old farmers have been elevated from Rs 750 per month to Rs 1000 per month and the number of such pensioners have been increased from 66,000 to 1,00000.
