Role title Directorate Reports to Direct reports Social Media Engagement Officer Communications & Engagement Social Media Engagement Manager None Overview of directorate The Social Media Engagement Officer role sits within the Digital team, within the Communications and Engagement department of Breast Cancer Now. The Communications and Engagement department includes PR & Celebrity, Brand, Public Health Information, Policy and Campaigns and Digital, led by the Director of Communications and Engagement. The Digital Engagement team s job is to communicate the work and key messages of the charity to internal and external stakeholders via digital channels. The team is split into Digital Engagement, Digital Marketing and Social Engagement, with the Assistant Director, Digital Engagement heading up the team. Purpose of the role The Social Media Engagement Officer will carry out the day-to-day engagement of the charity s social media channels, working across teams to engage with our supporters and communicate messages to help Breast Cancer Now reach its objectives. They will be responsible for the implementation of the social media content plan and work with the Social Media Engagement Manager to support appropriate messages and create exciting, informative and engaging content across a variety of media. Key accountabilities Manage the day-to-day activity across all social media platforms with both reactive and proactive content, ensuring messages are consistent with our brand and tone of voice guidelines, across all charity activities and channels. Create engaging and participative social media experiences, increase awareness of our work and help to meet the objectives of any campaigns that we re working on.
Work with colleagues across the charity to help support wider activity through social media to increase brand awareness and engagement rates whilst strengthening relationships with supporters and the public. To create optimised content in Photoshop to support brand engagement on our social channels and to surprise and delight our audiences. Work on the delivery of content plans across social media and proactively find and plan content, ensuring that content is scheduled daily during the working week. Conversely, monitoring current news and trends through which we can share our messages online is also key. Day-to-day management of social content delivery for key fundraising campaigns (e.g. wear it pink). Escalate any sensitive issues or opportunities that may arise on social media to the Social Media Engagement Manager in line with our communications procedures. Provide monthly reporting of key social media metrics to help us measure and better understand our impact through social. Ensuring all links in social media posts contain the correct tracking code so end-to-end performance can be accurately tracked through Google Analytics. Work with the Digital Producer to commission supporting video/photography content for use across channels. Use Social Bakers to monitor, schedule and report appropriately helping us to improve the effectiveness of our social media work. Any other duties as directed by and agreed with the Social Media Engagement Manager or Assistant Director, Digital Engagement. General responsibilities To manage the prioritisation of social content for maximum engagement with our audiences. To grow a sense of community across all our social channels, building relationships with passionate and influential individuals who can help us increase our impact. To support website conversions, e.g. for events and campaigns, where appropriate. To co-ordinate social media activity with the rest of the Digital Team to ensure we re maximising opportunities and presenting a joined-up vision of our work. To support the Social Engagement Manager on social media KPI reporting using Google Analytics. To contribute to team reporting on inow (our intranet) and manage work request templates for integration with rest of the organisation.
To contribute news and blog content to the website as required. To work with the Social Engagement Manager in identifying emerging social channels with potential to increase social engagement. To contribute to Digital Team protocols and processes for how we support the work of the organisation. To help build our knowledge of our social media audiences and use knowledge to inform our wider brand content strategy. Person Specification Experience We would like you to have the following experience: Experience of day to day management of a large social media audience for a national charity or brand. Knowledge of social media tools, including scheduling/posting, reporting/analytics (we use Social Bakers here experience with this is a bonus but not a necessity). A demonstrable knowledge of how social media fits in to wider digital and communication work. Intermediate level knowledge of Adobe Photoshop. Excellent writing, English grammar and language skills. Content creation and copywriting and design skills for social media. The following experience is ideal by not essential: Knowledge of Google Analytics. Working in the charity sector. Experience of creating video content for social media. Have some experience or knowledge of managing paid social media content. Skills We would like you to be able to: Demonstrate examples of social media copywriting and design skills. Demonstrate communication and customer service skills in a social media environment. Display in-depth knowledge and understanding of Social Media platforms, their respective uses (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios.
Work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organisational effectiveness. Utilise online tools and networks to post opportunities and new ways of working to help us excel in how we manage our social media work. Ideally we would like you to be able to: Learn more about social media advertising on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to be able to assist the Social Engagement Manager, as required.
