2 Communications Assistant (Digital) Communications Can you co-ordinate engaging online content to help raise the profile of the University s research and student education? Can you help create and optimise our content to be more effective in reaching new audiences? Can you use your initiative to be our first point of contact to manage our online communities and unpredictable enquiries? The University s Communications team plays a vital role in promoting and managing the profile of the University. We need a highly motivated individual, with excellent copywriting skills and attention to detail, to work across our busy office to support the University s presence online. You will need to be organised, be able to handle competing deadlines calmly and effectively under pressure. Communications includes the media and digital teams, along with public engagement, internal communications, and the design and production of our communication and marketing materials. We are recruiting two roles: Communications Assistant (Digital) CSCOM1032 and Communications Assistant (Media and Digital) CSCOM1033. Applicants can apply for both roles and there will be a joint recruitment process. If you are applying for both roles, you must make two separate applications. The roles have some shared responsibilities, and as a result of this some of the questions are duplicated. Candidates may use the same answer in both applications.

3 What does the role entail? As a Communications Assistant (Digital), your main duties will be split between three main areas of responsibility. Social media and community management: Working with the Social Media Manager, you will help coordinate the social media editorial calendar and develop a forward plan of content aligned with broader communications priorities; Supporting the community management of our key platforms, which include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn; Monitoring our key accounts to deal professionally with opportunities or potential challenges, handling incoming enquiries and co-ordinating responses; Helping produce and edit digital assets, and plan and produce live-streamed content for the University s social media channels. Online content management: Being responsible for the optimisation of video content on the University s YouTube account; Supporting video content management, including maintaining databases, approvals, content quality and reporting; Taking responsibility for accurately maintaining the University s campus maps and presence on Google Maps; Liaising with internal colleagues and external suppliers over relevant content for VideoLeeds, the University s audio and video sharing site, and optimising content for the corporate website leeds.ac.uk. Analytics and reporting: Supporting regular analytics gathering to produce media and social media evaluation and impact reports; Working with the Web Analyst to provide analytics intelligence on web use and SEO to inform and improve digital communications. These duties provide a framework for the role and should not be regarded as a definitive list. Other reasonable duties may be required consistent with the grade of the post.

4 What will you bring to the role? As a Communications Assistant (Digital), you will have: Outstanding initiative, a pro-active and flexible attitude, with experience of using clear and effective judgement; A strong and creative writing style, with excellent attention to detail, and experience of creating engaging and persuasive copy; A keen interest in understanding social media best practice and applying it to improve the effectiveness of a channel; Experience in managing social media channels or being a community manager, at a personal or professional level; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work independently or build relationships as part of a wide-ranging team; Experience of being a first point of contact or managing and directing enquiries to a wider team; Experience of handling potentially sensitive or confidential information appropriately; Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office, Outlook and Excel, experience of editing images and video (Photoshop/Adobe Premiere Pro) and using web / cloud based tools such as OneDrive; A strong understanding of the role of video in effective marketing communications; Experience in using data (Google Analytics and social media metrics) to report on campaign performance / results. You may also have: Experience of working in a communications role or in a large, busy communications team; Experience or knowledge of the higher education sector, with an understanding of issues affecting staff, academics and students.
