espring Q&A with Rob Missman Press Conference / ABO Launch / Leaders Dinner May - June 2015 PERFORMANCE 1. Does the espring system still work if there is no power to it? The espring system consists of press activated carbon block and UV technology. The UV light technology will not work without the power on. We recommend to continuously keeping the power on for two reasons: a. Keeping the ultraviolet light on reduces waterborne disease causing pathogens like bacteria and viruses. b. It provides the ability to keep track of how many gallons or liters you have used. Without power, it doesn t recognize how many gallons are actually flowing to the system. 2. Does it save a memory or data regarding the status of the filter even if we experience power failure? If you experience power failure, it will keep track of everything that s been going on as long as it is powered on therefore it doesn t lose everything. This is also the same when changing the filter. If you remove your espring cartridge within your system and put it to another system, the other system will recognize how much of the capacity of that filter has been used. It is constantly storing the information and data back and forth. It is really like a brain communicating with the heart. The brain is consistently sending signals to your heart and your heart constantly pumping blood back to the brain. 3. Since this is an introduction to the Philippine Market, how does espring system differs from other filtration system being offered in the market? Some of the key technologies we re compared to not only within this market specifically but also globally are alkaline water and reverse osmosis. Reverse Osmosis does an amazing job in removing contaminants from water however; It is typically inefficient wasting up to 80% of the water utilized. We provide a nonwaste alternative providing an incredible removal capability. It also requires high pressure however, not all of our markets and not our entire installation environment have high pressure. espring provides an efficient way to get clean water on demand. There is a risk of the bacteria and viruses getting into the system. Bacteria mainly grow through which is something that we may not notice. Our espring Water Filtration system provides readability to recognize what is not working properly to be able to provide feedback. In terms of the alkaline water which is very popular in this market, we stand upon the ability of the espring WTS to reduce health effect contaminants while improving the aesthetic quality. Alkaline water and aqualizers in general are really good in splitting two streams up, one being a higher ph, one being a lower ph to improve the aesthetic quality of the water. But at this point, there is no recognize study showing its potential health effect from any recognized organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO).
4. How does water pressure affects the performance of the espring system? The espring system, with its unique technology, operates under lower and higher pressure while maintaining the same incredible performance. It is recommended to use espring unit for pressure below 15psi. 15 psi is very low in terms of water quality while 125psi is considered very high. Water filtration and flow rate regulator are also integrated into the system to accommodate these pressure changes. These ensure that we are not going any higher than 3.4L/minute for a flow. We test above and beyond any sort of performance quality that we specify 5,000L or 3.4L/minute are our maximum claim performances. We ensure that on any given condition we are meeting that. We go above and beyond. As long as for water flow and water pressure, you are between 15psi and 125 psi, you will get the same espring quality water. 5. Does espring WTS address hard water? Hard water is made of calcium and magnesium which are also beneficial minerals essential to everyday use. espring does not address calcium and magnesium since these are beneficial minerals. Those may be potential aesthetic detriments to your water source. The perfect partner for an espring water system for a household that uses hard water is a water softener. A water softener may be an opportunity that you can explore for the entire household use. 6. Will the use of hard water do harm in the espring water system? No, as long as you are using a potable water on the espring WTS, it will do its job in cleaning your water. 7. After the alert signal turns on, are there a maximum number of hours or day before we could really replace the cartridge? Say for example if we are on a vacation and there is no one left available to replace the cartridge as soon as possible. Can we use it beyond its rated life? It is recommended to order a new cartridge when it is already at 10%. We test our product beyond our rated performance but if its beyond 5000 or 1 year worth of use, we can no longer guarantee that. Therefore we recommend to stick to that 5000liter or 1 year. Soon as you see it at 10% order a new cartridge because that is what it is there for, letting you know when to replace it with a new one. 8. How long will the unit lasts? The espring unit is designed for 10years worth of life. 9. How does power interruption affects the performance of the espring unit? If unit has no power, the UV will not work. It will also not be able to count down the gallons. It is not going to read what is left of its capacity. You will not get the same performance and quality. We always recommend trying as best as possible to utilize the espring system while there is power to the unit to provide you that amazing water quality. There are so many ways to do that. One is by storing some amount of water on a daily basis while using the system in the morning. You can actually store water at an ambient temperature for 24hrs while 3 days for refrigerated water to ensure the same quality of the treated water. We are looking at some innovative solution for future products out there in the horizon for that sort of problem.
10. If you have very dirty water, or high sediment water, will it shorten the life of the espring cartridge? A long as its potable water coming in the system, there is no effect. it doesn t matter what type of sediments or particulates are in it. espring WTS will still provide you that same amazing espring performance. 11. How does bacteria count compare between reverse osmosis vs UV light technology? Reverse osmosis acts by physically filtering components in the water. The maximum testing requirement for bacteria within the industry is over 99.99% of the bacteria reduction. Both reverse osmosis and espring water are able to do that. espring does that through an innovated UV light application which provides that same reduction of water borne pathogenic bacteria by over 99.99%. The comparison is very similar but we believe that our innovative solution offers the better opportunity. 12. Will putting on hot water affects the life of the UV lamp? Espring system is rated to meet the life at a maximum operating temperature of 30 degree Celsius. MAINTENANCE/DISPOSAL/ STORAGE/ USAGE 1. How do you maintain the performance and cleanliness of an espring system? How do you get over the frequency in having to do that? Same with any other component or appliance in your kitchen such as, your refrigerator, dishwasher, coffee maker or anything---all those different systems tend to fail without proper routine maintenance. espring system is a big investment we should be able to take care of the same as those with any other investment. We recommend that you do routine maintenance. Keeping it clean keeps it running properly. 2. How do you dispose an espring cartridge? There may be different policies and regulatory requirements in each market. We suggest that you consult your local health authority and local customer service team for proper recommendation. In some cases, you may dispose the UV lamp yourself separate from the carbon block. The espring carbon block is traditionally allowed to be disposed just like a normal trash. Throwing away the entire cartridge is allowed but always consult your local health authority for any unique recycling program they may have. 3. We ve been using our espring unit for the past 15 years, it has performed very well. What parts of the espring unit can be cleaned with water and soap? We have a discreet cleaning protocol for all the components within the espring system that are housed within our customer service organization. But just a brief highlight on the information contained in there, a light LOC cleaning solution may be utilized to clean the tank that houses a lot of the dirty compounds. The same solution can be utilized for our dispensers either our faucet or diverter options as well as our tubing. It has no impact as long as you rinse it after with just espring filtered water. Everything should be sanitary and cleaned up properly.
4. How often do you change the pleated pre-filter? At a minimum we recommend 1 year or 5000liter whichever comes first along with your unit. But we also want to leave it to you to replace prior to 5,000 liters or 1 year if necessary. 5. How do you store the water? You may store espring treated ambient water for 24 hours. For refrigerated water, you may store it in 72hours. We recommend that you regularly clean your container in between uses. 6. What happens to the water as soon as the UV light is not on? The reactivated carbon filter purifies the water but we highly recommend that the UV light is turned on all the time. DISTRIBUTION 1. Other than an Amway Distributor, will the espring water treatment system be available to consumer on a retail basis? Our position and our products are for direct selling only. It will maintain the same direct selling distribution through our ABOS. SAFETY & SPECIAL CONCERNS/ISSUES 1. Is it safe for babies? The espring Water Treatment System is designed for use on potable known water sources. This water is inherently safe for infants to consume, while espring WTS provides an extra layer of protection. Our performance data sheet will show what we are able to do. We cannot say that our system absolutely does everything because there is no such thing. We are wholeheartedly honest of what our system can provide. For people with special needs, have a better understanding of the quality of your own water in your home. I suggest that if you are concerned about your water have an in home water testing, look at our performance data sheet and we 100% stand behind everything that is in there. 2. How do you answer people asking about alkaline water and its health benefit claims? We stand behind scientifically credible evidence supporting a claim within water chemistry published journal or any organizations such as the World Health Organization that specifically looks into water quality. We stand behind their scientific credible research. Alkaline water may provide an aesthetic change to the water that may be pleasing to the taste but there are no scientific credible published article showing toxicology data to support that alkaline water provides health benefits, like effectively reducing known carcinogens. 3. How safe are we with the UV? UV represents a germicidal wavelength that inactivates the DNA and RNA of microorganism which may does the same to our skin and our cells if exposed to it. That is why we captured it in a safe environment so it only stays within espring system. We kept it within our reactor and focused what basically what you consider a bunch of mirrors
inside our system. The rest of our components absorb any stray UV that could ever come out of it. There is no risk of UV exposure with our espring system. 4. The first layer is made of coconut carbon cartridge. After using it for some time definitely there will be an accumulation of bacteria. In terms of the water that passes through that, how safe are we with the water getting trapped in that level? Bacteria grows on the surface of the activated carbon, this is natural. Organic matter comes in, collects on the surface, and provides food for the bacteria. But for two reasons, it is still providing you with the same amount of treatment: 1.) The first reason is the presence of UV technology after the press activated carbon block providing you with the second layer of dynamic removal performance. 2.) Second, we leave the UV on for a period of time even after you don t use it to ensure that your next glass of water is just as pure as the last. We recognize that as a potential so we install those safety precautions to ensure that you are getting the treatment and the performance that we claim. MARKETING 1. What does the name espring stands for? Matt Hess: In terms of developing the brand, it is associated with the drinking cup which is the primary visual indicator and the letter e signifying electronic, performance and technology. 2. We have a pretty technical product especially for people who may be really shy and scared in describing it, what would a simple 30 second elevator pitch be that we can tell people? RM: First, I talked about why treat water in the first place, why is it important to have a secondary filtration opportunity, how are you sure about the quality of water that comes into your home. Second, I talked about why espring and emphasize the beneficial minerals that are kept in the water. I describe to them how it provides an extra layer of comfort knowing the quality of water an espring system gives and how easy it is to use. 3. Is there any other way the product can be demonstrated so people can variably see how effective it is? Yes, the coke demo and the chlorine demo. We are working on a demonstration similar to a coke demo. It is an interesting demo and is a huge hit. We just want to make sure that it is done appropriately and it is done with the right type of cola. Just the difference of taste alone is enough to understand the difference in clean water. 4. If somebody tries to use the product using coke? How will that affect the warranty? Any product used for the coke demo should not be utilized for home use after.
