School Finance Manager The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Middle Leadership Team Post: Salary: Contract: Reporting to: Working closely with: Hours: School Finance Manager Up to 35,000 dependent on experience 2 terms probationary period, followed by a permanent contract. Director of Finance and Operations Finance team, Support Staff, Middle & Senior Leadership Teams. 37.5 hours per week. Majority of hours to be within school hours (8.15-6.15pm). The purpose of this job is to work with the Director of Finance and Operations and the wider finance team to ensure that the school meets its educational aims and achieves improved standards for students. This post holder will be the lead professional for day to day school finance assisting the Director of Finance and Operations with day to day management of all school finance, including revenue collection and the recording, reporting and analysis of all income and expenditure, including fees, DfE and EFSA grant awards, lettings revenue and charitable donations together with development of revenue systems. The post holder will manage the finance team which comprises two Finance Officers and be an active member of the middle leadership team. Purpose of Job: The successful candidate will work towards fulfilling the school s commitment to a high quality provision for students and will promote and embody the school s ethos: the Elmhurst Way. Based in a modern, purpose built, state of the art dance complex on the edge of Birmingham City centre, the new appointee will lead a large team to bring together school business services and foster a coordinated approach to this area of work. This post presents a unique opportunity to work with up to 200 of the most gifted and talented young dancers from the UK and beyond.

Main Duties and Responsibilities: Accountabilities: Be responsible for the day to day leadership and strategic planning of school finance. Take delegated responsibility for financial decisions following appropriate discussions with the Director of Finance and Operations, Principal and Governing body. To have an active role within the Middle Leadership Group in whole school selfevaluation, strategic and annual planning processes. To support strategic plans relating to all aspects of budget and financial matters relating to the school. To manage the schools investment strategy working closely with Director of Finance and Operations. To be responsible for keeping abreast of legislation, national guidelines and local arrangements in relation to school financial matters. Ensure all statutory regulations for school finance are adhered to and relevant records are kept. Prepare annual budgets and forecasts; linked to the School Development Plan, predicted funding and pupil numbers. Ensure the school has appropriate financial systems to monitor income and expenditure. Manage all aspects of these systems in accordance with agreed policies and timetable. Be responsible for checking the school s monthly payroll data and monitor invoices and staff over time claims. Have oversight of pupils bills and fee collection; including debtors. Have oversight of purchase invoices and payments to creditors. Prepare monthly management accounts and annual statutory accounts. Monitor cash flow and liaise with banks and investment managers. Be responsible for ensuring that the financial transactions in the school are carried out in an appropriate manner and that the financial regulations of the DfE, EFA, Charity Commission and any other appropriate bodies and the school are observed. Prepare financial forecasts for particular projects and to manage budgets set. Ensure that the school meets auditors and other external bodies requirements for this area, including the DfE and the EFSA. To have a thorough understanding of the school s funding arrangements, including MDS and DaDA Awards which fund the majority of students Process grant claims liaising with parents and the DfE and EFSA, and ensuring that scheme rules and deadlines are complied with at all times. Manage and implement accepted recommendations of audit. Support the Development Office with appropriate financial information to support funding bids and monitor donation and fundraising income. Process bursary applications and calculate awards. Support colleagues responsible for delegated budgets with procedures which enable them to monitor these budgets. Support the Director of Finance and Operations to manage the school s insurance policies and ensure they adhere to legal guidelines. Monitor utilities costs and introduce cost saving initiatives working in partnership with the Director of Finance and Operations. Advise on issues relating to taxation and prepare VAT returns for the School and subsidiary. Advise on issues affecting the charitable status of the school. Liaise with relevant external agencies as appropriate to ensure the school meets its statutory obligations for this area. Attend the Finance, Facilities and General Purposes Governors Committee; prepare agendas and take minutes.

Oversight of Key School Functions: Through line management relationships exercise oversight of: Finance Officers Personnel and Staffing: Manage staff in line with the schools HR policies and procedures. If so, they will be entirely by negotiation, and will, it is hoped, be entirely manageable. The job description is non-contractual, which means that should the needs of the school change in the future, the Principal may require reasonable variations consistent with the job title. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Elmhurst is committed to a continuing Staff Development Programme. Each year, all staff receive in-service training at the school and, for this purpose, they are required to take part in up to the equivalent of 5 days of INSET sessions which usually take place outside of students term dates. Through the Performance Management and annual review meetings, staff are encouraged to attend relevant courses to enhance and update their professional skills.
