Section 105.2 of the International Plumbing Code reads as follows: Alternative materials, methods and equipment. The provisions of this code are not intended to prevent the installation of any material or to prohibit any method of construction not specifically prescribed by this code, provided that any such alternative has been approved. An alternative material or method of construction shall be approved where the code official finds that the proposed design is satisfactory and complies with the intent of the provisions of this code, and that the material, method or work offered is, for the purpose intended, at least the equivalent of that prescribed in this code in quality, strength, effectiveness, fire resistance, durability and safety. Similar provisions are contained in the Uniform Codes. ICC-ES may consider alternate listing criteria, provided the listing applicant submits valid data demonstrating that the alternate listing criteria are at least equivalent to the listing criteria set forth in this document, and otherwise demonstrate compliance with the performance features of the codes. Notwithstanding that a product, material, or type or method of construction meets the requirements of the criteria set forth in this document, or that it can be demonstrated that valid alternate criteria are equivalent to the criteria in this document and otherwise demonstrate compliance with the performance features of the codes, ICC-ES retains the right to refuse to issue or renew a listing, if the product, material, or type or method of construction is such that either unusual care with its installation or use must be exercised for satisfactory performance, or if malfunctioning is apt to cause unreasonable property damage or personal injury or sickness relative to the benefits to be achieved by the use of the product, material, o r type or method of construction. Listing criteria are developed solely for use by ICC-ES for purposes of issuing ICC-ES PMG listings. Copyright 2014 1

American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers. 2.0 BASIC INFORMATION 2.1 Product Description: Complete information shall be provided concerning material specifications, thickness, size and the manufacturing process. 2.2 Installation Instructions: Product shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and the requirements of the applicable codes and reference standards in Section 1.3. The installation instruction supplied by the manufacturer with each hose shall include provisions or tables stating the minimum bend radius for each nominal size of the hose. 2

2.3 Packaging and Identification: The piping shall be permanently and legibly marked with the manufacturer's name or trademark, and the model number. The product shall also bear the PMG listing mark. 3.0 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Design: Pipe and fittings shall comply with the applicable design conditions and criteria in either Chapter II of ASME B31.5. 3.2Material: The Pipe assembly shall be made of multilayers. Inner layer, reinforcement layer, and outer layer shall meet the minimum physical properties listed below: Inner Layer Inner layer of tubing shall be made of plastic material having a minimum tensile strength of 30 MPa and an elongation break of 150% and shall comply with the Refrigerant Exposure test in Section 4.6 of this listing criteria. Reinforcement Layer Reinforcement layer shall be made of braided polyester material and shall have a minimum tensile strength of 100 N and an elongation at break of 13%. Outer Layer Outer layer of tubing shall be made of rubber material having a minimum hardness of 63 ± 5, Shore A, a tensile strength of 12 MPa and an elongation at break of 500% and shall comply with the UV test in Section 4.2 of this listing criteria. 4.0 TEST METHOD AND PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS 4.1 General For the purpose of the test, five set of samples of pipe and fittings assembly of not less than 18 in long shall be tested. Sample A shall be tested to section 4.2 and 4.3. Sample B shall be tested to section 4.4. Sample C shall be tested to 4.5. Sample D shall be tested to 4.6. Sample E shall be tested to 4.7. 4.2 Ultraviolet Light Exposure Test Pipe and fittings assembly shall be exposed to 720 hours of twin enclosed carbon-arc (ASTM G151 and G153) or 1000 hours of xeon-arc (ASTM G151 and G155) as prescribed in clause 57 of UL 746C. 4.3 Pull Test After being exposed to UV light, sample A shall be subjected to the pull test to withstand a tensile force of not less than 500 lbs. 4.4 Permeation Test Pipe and Fitting assembly shall be tested in accordance with clause 58.12 of UL1963, and shall not permit effusion of refrigerant at a rate greater than 8 lbs/ft 2 /yr. 3

4.5 Corrosion Test Five pipe and fittings assemblies shall be prepared for this test. The pipe and fittings assembly shall be tested with salt spray in accordance with ASTM B117 for a duration of not less than 360 hours. After corrosion test, samples shall be tested to section 4.8. 4.6 Refrigerant Exposure Test Six pipe and fittings assemblies shall be prepared for this test. The inner tube shall be exposed to the liquid phase of each refrigerant intended to be handled for 30 days at 176 F (80 C). After exposure, one sample shall be tested for delamination to section 4.9. Remaining samples shall be tested to section 4.8. 4.7 Thermal Cycling Test Five pipe and fittings assemblies shall be prepared for this test. Pipe and fittings assembly shall be tested in accordance with the thermal cycling test in Clause 58.8 of UL 1963. After thermal cycling, samples shall be tested to section 4.8. 4.8 Strength Test After Sample C, D and E have completed the test described in 4.5, 4.6, 4.7 respectively; they shall be connected together to be tested to either section 4.8.1 or 4.8.2. 4.8.1 Burst Method: The pipe and fitting assembly shall withstand without failure (such as burst or visible leakage) a pressure equal to five times the refrigerant minimum design pressure in table 11.1 of UL 207, or a pressure equal to five times the design pressure marked on the component, whichever is higher. The burst test shall be performed in accordance with clause 13 of UL 207 at a temperature of not less than 68 F. 4.8.2 Fatigue Method: the Pipe and fittings when tested in accordance with the Fatigue Test in Clause 14 of UL 207 at the a temperature of not less than 68 F for shall maintain for 1 minute without rupture, burst or leak at the higher of: a) Two times the minimum upper pressure test values specified in Clause 14.3.5 of UL 207; or b) One and one-half times the working pressure marked on the component 4.8.2.1 Pressure test specification: Two samples shall be tested.
